Maria M. Bischoff, a respected and longterm resident of Monroe for over 40 years, passed away on Thursday August 11, 2005 after a short illness. Maria was best known for once having been the owner of the Monroe Bakery and her dedicated service to both Sacred Heart and Saint Anastasia parishes. Many veteran townspeople would well remember a kind word with Maria while buying a bagel and coffee or a warm hello while working in the kitchens of her beloved churches. Maria, a loving wife and mother, leaves behind her husband Otto; three children: Marty, Michael and Carrie, and her five grandchildren: Nicole, Michelle, Paul, Steven and Amanda. Maria will also be missed by her family in Germany, whom she's kept in close contact with over the years, since immigrating to the U.S. Maria has made an indelible mark on the community by her selfless devotion and commitment to family, friends and community. Published in the Times Herald-Record on 8/14/2005. Campbell, Lillian Margaret (Haynes) Lillian Margaret (Haynes) Campbell died Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at The Arbors in Shelburne, Vt. She was in her 100th year of life. Mrs. Campbell moved to New Paltz as a bride in 1936, living first on Tricor Avenue and then on Prospect Street. Mrs. Campbell was born February 27, 1906 in Dunkirk, N.Y., where she grew up. The daughter of Margaret Gast Haynes and Fred E. Haynes, she was the eldest of four children. She attended public schools in Dunkirk, graduating from Dunkirk High School in 1924, and from Fredonia State Normal School, Fredonia, N.Y. in June of 1927. In August of 1936, she married Loren D. Campbell in her hometown of Dunkirk. They had two children, David Bruce Campbell and Margaret Ann Campbell. Bruce now lives with his wife Jean in Painted Post, N.Y., and Margaret lives in Killington, Vt. Always active in her community, Mrs. Campbell's memberships and associations over the years included the League of Women Voters, the SUNY College at New Paltz Faculty Wives, the New Paltz Study Club, American Field Service and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, for which she served a term as treasurer. She was also active with the New Paltz Girl Scouts and in 1937, she formed and led their first Brownie Scout Troop. She was a longtime member of the New Paltz Reformed Church, participating in the Women's Guild, teaching Sunday School and volunteering at Old Stone House Day. Mrs. Campbell had a long career as an educator in New York State, first taking short term assignments in Silver Creek, Oswego, Highland, and the State College at New Paltz. She taught for a long time at Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. and in the New Paltz Public School System. Continuing her own learning, she received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Art Education from the State University College at New Paltz in 1959 and completed a Regional Program in Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers from 1964-1965. In 1967, she was nominated as a candidate for Teacher of the Year in New York State, an honor given by the New York State Teachers Association. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her children; her sister Janette Christopherson of Frewsburg, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Helen Campbell Brehm of Tustin, Mich.; three nephews and four nieces. Ciaccio-Fisher, Marie On Wednesday July 20, 2005, Marie (Ladato) Ciaccio-Fisher passed away in Myrtle Beach, S.C. after a brief illness. She was 74 years of age. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on August 23, 1930, she was the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Favrushka) Ciaccio. Young Marie was a child prodigy opera singer, and her parents had planned to send her to Italy to study music and perfect her skills, but an unforeseen illness in the family made it necessary for the Ladatos to move up the Hudson to Newburgh, and Marie's opera endeavors were curtailed permanently. After high school, Marie worked for the local Sears & Roebuck store in the Customer Services Department. Not long after, she met a local man named Alfonso S. Ciaccio, and the two were united in marriage in 1957. Together they raised two sons and shared fourteen years until Alfonso's passing in 1971. A few years later she met Ervin Fisher, and they were married in 1974. When Ervin retired in 1988, they moved to Myrtle Beach, where Marie continued working at the local Sears store for another seven years. Mr. Fisher passed away on July 4th of this year. Marie will be remembered as being an avid Bingo player, and a strong, self-assured woman who was straight-forward and to the point. She was always ready and willing to help others without regard for herself. Most of all, Marie loved her family, and she found great joy in knowing that her musical gift was passed on to her children and grandchildren. Marie is survived by her sons, Alfonse and Jill Ciaccio of Canton, Pa., and Anthony Ciaccio of New Paltz; stepdaughters, Julia Valle and Lisa Dawson, both of Lakeland, Fla.; grandsons, Joel Ciaccio of Canton, Pa., and Jonathan Ciaccio of Pinebush; granddaughters, Anna and Laura Ciaccio of Canton, Pa., and Beth Anne Ciaccio of Pinebush; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on March 29, 1934, she was the daughter of Charles P. Chapman and Gladys VanVoohis. On October 14, 1968, in Hopewell Junction, she married Bertin J. Long, who survives at home in Highland. A member of the Mother's Club and Kids Club, she was a loving and special person who will be greatly missed by all. The daughter of the late Salvatino and Josephine Castigtione Ramundo, Libby was born September 19, 1931 in Kingston, N.Y. A family statement reads: "Libby was a very devoted, loving wife and mother. She was active in her church, and in Tuesday Morning Crafts. Libby's vivacious nature is what made her so loved by everyone. We will remember her as the best mother ever." Libby is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Leonard J. Ian was born in Scotland on December 12, 1919 to Charles and Elizabeth Cumming McIntosh. Ian came to the United States in 1953 from Glasgow, Scotland, and settled in Stony Point, N.Y. Ian served with the Royal Engineers during World War II and fought in the D-Day invasion. Mr. McIntosh was a carpenter and life member with Local #964 in Rockland County. He was a founding member of the Highland Pipes and Drums, and member of Thiells United Methodist Church for over 54 years. He was also a member of the Stony Point Senior Citizens. Ian married Frances Rich in Glasgow, Scotland on February 27, 1942. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances, of Stony Point; two sons, David and his wife, Sondra of Pomona, N.Y., and Ian Jr. of Highland Mills; one daughter, Faye of Newburgh; six grandchildren: Ian III, Alicia, Scott, Stephen, Danielle, and Christopher; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew. Napolitano "Scooch", a resident of Tuxedo, died on August 11, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. He was born on March 17, 1925, the son of Carmela and Carmine Napolitano. He was a Veteran of the 29th Infantry Division and saw action in both theaters of war in 1943. On February 18, 1946, he was Honorably discharged. Ralph was a charter member of the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and an honorary member of the Tuxedo Park Fire Department, The Tuxedo Silver Dollars, the H.H Rogers Cabrini Lodge. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother and loving Grandfather. They will miss his wit and prolific talent of jokes and dedicated support of the Tuxedo High School sports. Ralph is survived by his wife of 56 years Madeline Mottola Napolitano; one son Ralph of Kissimmee, Fla. and his wife MaryAnn; his granddaughters Katherine, Allison, Sarah; and grandson Nicholas. He is also survived by his sisters Connie Burgoyne of Florida, Teresa Salierno and her husband Thomas of Tuxedo and his brother Anthony of Middletown, N.Y. Nastasi, 89, a housewife and 14 year resident of Washingtonville, died Thursday August 11, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen, N.Y. Daughter of the late Silvano Ferraro and Julia Dolcemele Ferraro, she was raised by her loving aunt, Rose. She was born in Bronx, N.Y. on March 30, 1916. She was a member of the Blooming Grove Senior Citizens and the Blue & Gold Senior Citizens in Washingtonville, N.Y. A family statement reads: "Julia was a vivacious, determined individual who lived life to its fullest. She will be sorely missed by her loving friends in Washingtonville, and most of all, by her devoted family, especially her darling grandchildren Kristina and Peter." She was the widow of Peter Nastasi, and is survived by her son, Peter J. Nastasi and his wife, Angela, of Monroe; two grandchildren: Peter J. Nastasi and Kristina G. The son of the late Joseph and Frances Mauro Sardo, he was born June 7, 1930 in New York, N.Y. He was 75 years old. He was married to Eleanor Tesoriero. Mr. Sardo was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Florida, N.Y., and the Warwick Writers Group. He was the inventor of the Resist-A-Flame (fire-proofing). Slatkin, who passed away while vacationing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on August 10, 2005. Born on March 9, 1943 to Jacob and Dora Slatkin, Sheldon spent much of his life in his birthplace of Monticello, New York with his parents and sisters, Shirley, Florence and Estelle. At the age of 35, with his wife, Diane, and two sons, Jason and Evan, he moved to San Diego, California to attend California Western School of Law. Upon graduation, the Slatkin Family moved to Coral Springs, where Sheldon began his law career as a civil attorney. A beloved member of the Broward County legal community, Sheldon devoted a quarter century of his life pursuing justice on behalf of his clients. Outside the office, he was the consummate entertainer, famous for sending birthday cakes to absolute strangers while dining out. Recently, Sheldon became an avid motorcyclist and spent many weekends with his family and one of his best friends and brother in law, Charles, in the Florida Keys.
