Spradling, Antoinette "Toni" Mrs. Antoinette "Toni" Spradling, of Montague, NJ, a dance choreographer and resident of the area for 40 years, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center, Milford, Pa. She was 85. She was born July 24, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Francisco and the late Rose Pagnotti Rosso. She was married to the late Homer C. 'Slim' Spradling for 59 years; he died Jan. 11, 2001. Dancing for 75 years, Toni was the founder and owner of Toni Spradling Dance Studio of Montague, NJ. Toni's career began professionally in New York City in 1927. Then, as a child star tap dancer, performing with many other showbiz stars of the day. Upon graduating from high school in Brooklyn, NY, she became one of the world-known Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. Toni then branched out with her own traveling dance company; Toni's Poni's On Parade. Again, performing with various song/dance/stage iluminiares of the era. As World War II was on the brink of bringing the United States into the fro, Toni became a stateside member of the USO in the metro New York Area. Along with her brother Frank, an entertainer who was also on active duty with the US ARMY. It was in the evening of Dec. 7, 1941, later in the day of the Pearl Harbor attack in Hawaii, that she met her future husband, Slim; while he was stationed in New York assigned to the Military Police for US Army. They married the following June. Slim went overseas on two separate combat tours; returning a decorated veteran in 1944 and the father of daughter, Rosemarie. Then came son David, Toni and Slim relocated to Dover, NJ, Slim owning several auto repair shops, Toni operating several dance studios. Along with their own respective growing business's, Toni and Slim bought the CLUB 45 in Lake Hiawatha, NJ on the verge of the birth of rock n' roll. There, many up and coming groups and singers including Bobby Darin, the Duprees, etc, all made an early mark. Upon the birth of sons Guy and Mark, Slim and Toni relocated after the sale of all their Morris County, NJ business's in 1965 to Montague, NJ; where Toni's parents had settled years earlier after WWII. For almost the next forty years, Toni owned/operated the Toni Spradling Dance Studio; employing almost all her daughters, daughters-in-law and even grandchildren. Slim retired in 1985; with son Mark taking over the family auto body repair shop; Guy became a professional dance instructor as well; following in Toni's dancing footsteps. Toni's career goal was to teach beyond her first instructor. Toni reached that goal; working two years beyond to age 83; retiring with much fanfare in 2002. For over thirty years, Toni held an annual dance recital at either Port Jervis High School or Delaware Valley High School. The recitals were a benefit with the proceeds turned over to the respective Drama Clubs of each high school; in addition Toni donated to many of the Tri-State area charities for various benefits both she and her adult and children dance troops performed. Toni's family wish to thank not only the 6000 area children and adults who were pupils over the more than 30 years in Montague; but the hundreds of supporters and staff.
