"Uncle Gene" Mr. Eugene B. "Uncle Gene" Conklin of Sparrowbush, died Monday, December 5, 2005 at home. He was 71. He was born April 26, 1934 in Haverstraw, N.Y., the son of the late Harvey and the late Mae Ludwig Conklin. He worked in the Maintenance Dept. for Bear Mountain State Park for many years where he was also referred to as Uncle Gene. Uncle Gene was a member of St. Peter s R.C. Church, Haverstraw and the AARP. Uncle Gene did not join many organizations but found it in his heart to support the needy by giving to many organizations. He was particularly supportive of those organizations that involve children in need. Uncle Gene gave to Salvation Army, St. Jude s Children s Hospital, Omaha Home for Boys, Covenant House and the Heritage Foundation to name just a few. A family statement read: "Uncle Gene was a very gentle and giving man who never had a bad thing to say and was loved by all who knew him." Surviving are sisters: Marie Hopko of Sparrowbush, Patricia Vogelsang of Walden; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Hoeffner of Montgomery, a retired D.O.T. Motor Vehicle Inspector for the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation, and lifetime resident of the area, died suddenly on Sunday, December 4, 2005 in an automobile accident in Montgomery. He was 69. The son of the late Ferdinand and Clara Froehlich Hoeffner, he was born May 19, 1936 in Montgomery, N.Y. George served in the Army from 1954-1957 and also helped run the family farm in Montgomery with his brothers. He was a former member of the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 1097, Middletown and an honorary member of the Fallsburgh Fishing and Boating Club. A family statement reads: "He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren." Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Karen Kimmerle Hoeffner, at home; son, Thomas E. "Phil" "Flip" "Flipper" Kennedy, 71, of Montague, N.J., passed away on Monday, December 5, 2005 at home. He was the president of Parkton Services, Inc., New York, N.Y. He was a member of St. James the Greater Church, Montague, N.J. and St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Branchville, N.J. He was a member of the Bible study group and on the Pastoral Advisory Board. Phil graduated from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. in 1962 and was a member of the Alumni Association. He was a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Association and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bridge player. He was a US Marine Corps veteran serving from 1958 to 1961. Phil was a beautiful person who served his country, community, gave of himself unselfishly, and tried to help everyone he touched. He will never be forgotten. He will live on in all of us in his pearls of wisdom, southern hospitality and generosity. Phil was a great mentor, always looking to give away what he received from others. Phil persevered under trial and in the end triumphed. The son of the late Francis and Floranzo Marsh Kennedy, he was born on August 15, 1934 in Frederick, Md. He was married to Jody Case Kennedy. Survivors include his wife; beloved friends, Chuck and Natalie Holley and their two children, Daniel and PJ of Milford, Pa.; two brothers, James Kennedy and wife Johnna of Frederick, Md., John Kennedy and wife Marianne of Jasper, Ind.; sister Nancy Vayvada of Charlottesville, Va. He was predeceased by two brothers, William C. and Frances Kennedy Jr.; and one sister Elizabeth Margaret Dzik. Kenny of Newburgh, a longtime resident of the area, entered into rest on December 5, 2005 at home. She was 75. Theresa was a woman of adventurous spirit, she loved the outdoors. She also loved hiking, camping and traveling with her family. In addition, she enjoyed reading and history. Her quest for knowledge never faded. Daughter of the late Daniel McKeegan and Mary Gromley, Theresa was born October 29, 1930 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On August 14, 1950, Theresa married her devoted and loving husband, Charles A. Kenny at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. In addition to her husband, Theresa is survived by her seven children, Mary Sanzi and her husband, Gerard of Shokan, Michael Kenny of Newburgh, Susan Paivanas and her husband, Thomas of Annandale, VA, Charles Kenny and his wife, Sherry of Wallkill, Dennis Kenny and his wife, Betty of New Paltz, Ellen Rose of Lake Luzerne and Thomas Kenny and his wife, Jeanine of Newburgh; her brother, Danny McKeegan of Las Vegas, NV; and her 15 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alison and Caitlin Sanzi, Matthew Kenny and his brother Michael, Nicholas and Tessa Paivanas, Katherine and Theresa Kenny, Claire, Molly and Jenny Sue Kenny, Sarah and Taylor Rose and Samantha Kenny. The daughter of the late William H. and Mary E. Kingsley Weyant, Mildred was born December 31, 1929 in Newburgh. He was 68. Son of Joseph Olympia and the late Dorothy Hadden, he was born May 5, 1937 in Newburgh. Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oglethorpe. He was a member of the Heights Club. He was very passionate about living in Florida and was a devoted family man who enjoyed his grandchildren more than words could ever express. Sauer, Walter Walter Sauer, age 90, of Bloomingburg, N.Y. and formerly of Glendale, N.Y., entered into rest on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Tucker Center for Cancer Care, Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown, N.Y. He was a retired Industrial Mechanic for both Kosters Bakery of Brooklyn, N.Y. and the Strick Corp. of Middletown. The son of the late Julius and Hannah Wanke Sauer, he was born May 12, 1915 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a faithful member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Middletown, N.Y. He served as Deacon and a former worker in the Treasury Dept. of the Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor M. Sauer (nee Mentz), brothers Julius, Jr., Harry and Martin and sister, Mary Hesse. Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Fee, and her husband, Bill, of Pine Bush. A son, Ronald Sauer, and his loving companion, Nancy, of Circleville. She was 34. The daughter of William Edward and Dorothy P. Manda McDermott, she was born February 1, 1971 in Kingston, N.Y. Frank Tonkinson, a retired Methodist Minister of Sussex United Methodist Church, Sussex, N.J. and a life-long area resident, died at home on December 4, 2005. He was 90. Son of the late Cecil P. Tonkinson and Frances M. Chamberlin Tonkinson, he was born on March 29, 1915 in London, England. He was married to Ada Dorothy Meyer Tonkinson. Rev. Tonkinson was a graduate of Drew Seminary. He was a member of the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church where he was a former Deacon and served with the Methodist Youth Fellowship as a leader and taught Sunday School, was Minister of the Libertyville and Colesville United Methodist Churches in Sussex, N.J., acting interim Pastor at Pond Eddy United Methodist Church. When Rev. Tonkinson retired, he moved to Brooksville, Fla. to serve as the visiting Pastor of the Brooksville United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member and taught Bible Study Classes. He was a member of Port Jervis Masonic Lodge #328 F & AM, Town of Lumberland Fire Department, and a member of the Port Jervis Lions Club. Rev. Tonkinson was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Rev. Tonkinson had a part in every wedding ceremony of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ada Dorothy Tonkinson at home; one daughter, Lynn Tonkinson Brent and her husband, Peter, of Poughkeepsie; one son, Kenneth Tonkinson and his wife, Gloria, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; 5 grandchildren: Laurie Brent Schiavone, Peter J.
