He was 88. The son of the late John C. Bell and Dovie Thompson Bell, Lewis was born on April 10, 1917 in Fort Worth, Texas. Survivors include four sons: John W. Bell of Monroe, James A. Bell of Monroe, Edward L. Bell of Boston, Mass., Walter "Tex" Bell of Whitestone, N.Y.; and one daughter, Nancy L. Beveridge of Splendora, Texas, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Berski, Sister Frances Sister Frances Berski, OP (formerly Sister Catherine Andre Berski, OP) of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died Monday, December 19, 2005 in St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. Born in Paterson, N.J. on November 20, 1938, sister was the daughter of Aloysius J. and Katherine Bochenek Berski. At the time of her death, sister was the first councilor of the Dominican Hope Council, located in Ossining, N.Y. She entered the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh Novitiate in September 1956, made her First Profession in 1958, and Final Profession on August 21, 1961. She received her early education at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School and St. John's High School in Paterson, N.J.; earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Mt. Saint Mary College in 1965; an M.A. in Education - specialty in Psychology of Reading at Temple University, Philadelphia in 1968; a Doctor of Education degree at Temple University in 1974; and an MSA in Administration at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. in 1979. Sister also updated her education with the following programs: Financial Management at SUNY New Paltz, Boston College, Mass., Passionist Institute, Conn., Orange County Community College; Microcomputer Programming at Newburgh Free Academy. Sister held the following positions: Chair of the Education Division at Mt. Saint Mary College (1972-2003); Graduate Coordinator of the College Education Program - Director of the Center for Developmental Learning and Reading, Mt. Saint Mary College (1972-1976); In-service Program for Teachers - Diocese of Newark, N.J.; Lecturer at Lesley College, Mass. - Integrating Teaching Skills (1990); Vice Chairman of Occupations, Inc. - Board of Directors (1992); Treasurer General of the Newburgh Congregation (1993-1995). Her early assignments in Elementary Education were in New Jersey at St. Joseph, Toms River, Sacred Heart, Camden, St. Mary, Gloucester and the Newburgh Head Start Program. Sister received the following recognitions: named Associate Professor of Education - Mt. Saint Mary College; Mt. Saint Mary College Faculty Award (1984) Presidents Club; Delta Kappa Gamma Society - Alpha Chapter Special Olympics Program; ATE Laureate - Washington D.C.; TEAC - Educational Achievement Center - Consulting Staff. Sister is survived by four sisters: Lois Veltri, Patricia Conticehio, Mary Ann Gioia and Andrea Berski; and a brother, William Berk Berski. Burden, Doris Maxine "Poncy" Doris Maxine Burden, age 48, lovingly known as "Poncy" was born on March 8, 1957 to the late Henry Mack Burden and Ardie Mae Burden in Elizabethtown, N.C. She attended Newburgh Elementary, Junior High and High School. She was formerly employed by U.S.M.A. West Point, N.Y. She was an avid bingo player. Doris was a very friendly sweet lady who cherished all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. Survivors include her dearest mother, Ardie Mae Burden; two sisters: Ida Burden and Henrietta Burden of Newburgh, N.Y.; four uncles: Willie C. Burks, John Burks, Augusta Burks, Howard Burks, all of Newburgh, two aunts: Sarah Pinesett and Mary Oates of Newburgh and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born in Eckley, Pa. on June 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Annie O'Donnell Sharkey. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl, Pa., and it's Sodality; and volunteered delivering for Meals on Wheels in the Slate Belt area. She was employed by Kolmar Laboratories in Port Jervis. She was the wife of the late John D. Carr, who died December of 1989. She is survived by two daughters, Loretta A. Carr of High Bridge, N.J. and Kathy M. Balch and her husband, Aaron, of Wind Gap; two sons, John J. Carr and his wife, Suzanne, of The Woodlands, Texas, and Thomas P. Carr and his wife, Josephine, of Flemington, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Deegan of Middletown, N.Y. died December 20, 2005 at Castle Point VA Hospital in Beacon, N.Y. He was 57. The son of Thomas Deegan and Marion Sabo Deegan, he was born on June 26, 1948 in Yonkers, N.Y. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country in the United States Marines where he was awarded the Purple Heart. A family statement reads: "Tom will be remembered as a loving and caring son, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family and friends. Since his retirement, he loved to golf and travel. She was also a clerk in the Washingtonville Post Office and vice president of the N.A.P.U.S. Patricia grew up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and moved to Washingtonville in 1963. She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Langen, at home, whom she married on May 23, 1970 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn; sons, Edward H. Langen of Washingtonville and Randy C. Maloney, of Warwick, a maintenance worker having retired from the Rye School System, also having worked with the postal service, died Sunday, December 18, 2005 at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. He was 94. The son of the late Patrick and Catherine Jones Maloney, he was born on November 21, 1911 in New York, N.Y. A United States Army veteran, Mr. Maloney served as an MP while stationed in Germany during WW II. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Rinehart and husband Martin and his granddaughters Amanda and Virginia all of Warwick; nieces and nephews, Wayne, Donald and Kenny Maloney all of Westchester, Mary Jones of the state of Florida and Betty Stevens and Frank Ferrara both of California. Montanez. Jasir was born 3« months premature on September 26, 2005. He was 2« months old. He was the Town of New Windsor Fire Inspector for 28 years, served as Emergency Management Director, former Director of the New Windsor Auxiliary Police, and member and Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Quassaick Bridge Fire District. He served during World War II in the Hawaii Division of the Armed Forces. He was a life member of the Clintondale Fire Department and active in Community Action in Highland. His wife, Josephine, passed away in 1998. Sicina of Patten, Maine, formerly of Central Valley, N.Y., a retired Federal Employee, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at his home in Maine. He was 58. The son of the late Charles Sicina and the late Gloria Wood, he was born on June 21, 1947 in Passaic, N.J. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was Personal Aide to General Ott, Chief of the Armed Forces in Thailand, as well as Fort Sill Oklahoma. John was proud to belong to the Cornerstone Lodge #711 F & AM, Monroe, N.Y., where he was a member for the past couple of decades. He enjoyed the outdoors and retired to Maine where he enjoyed hiking and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Stein of Ellenville, N.Y., formerly of Kerhonksen, N.Y. died Monday, December 19, 2005 in Ellenville Community Hospital, Ellenville. He was 77. Born February 9, 1928 in Astoria, N.Y., he was the son of the late Ernst and Antoinette Schuebb Stein. He married Anna Stehnitsky Stein on December 21, 1961. He was a graduate of Wilfred Academy, class of 1951 and served in the United States Army during World War II. A custodian for Rondout Valley Central School District, he retired in 1993 before moving to this area, he had been a taxi driver in Manhattan for many years, and, additionally he had been an elevator operator. He was a member of Avenue C Boys Association of NYC. He was also a old time movie buff, enjoyed the history channel and trips to the casinos. Survivors include a daughter, Antoinette "Toni" Snyder of East Kingston, N.Y., a son-in-law, Arthur Snyder of East Kingston and many nieces & nephews. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday the December 22 at Keyser Funeral Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston with the Rev. Arlene Dawber, officiating. Thompson, retired from Operating Engineers Local #825, formerly of Newburgh, entered into rest on December 20, 2005 at Cornwall Hospital. He was 85. The son of the late Fred and Alice Milliken Thompson, he was born August 27, 1920 in Newburgh, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Thompson, who entered into rest on December 20, 2003. He is survived by two sons, Arthur Thompson Jr. of Marlboro, and Steven Thompson of Wurtsboro; two sisters, Shirley Gilmore of Newburgh and Harriet Thompson of Newburgh; three brothers: Roland of Wallkill, George of California, and Charles of Florida; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Treacy, Rita Gorham Rita Gorham Treacy, formerly of Highland Falls, N.Y. entered into eternal life on Monday, December 19, 2005 at home surrounded by her loved ones. The daughter of the late E. Rosalie and Joseph G. Gorham she was born on August 17, 1931 at West Point, N.Y. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 51 years, Alfred J. "Jack" Treacy. Mrs. Treacy is survived by two sisters: M. Dorothy Lewis of Wilmington, N.C. and Catharine M. Sheldon of Fort Montgomery, N.Y. She is also survived by seven children, five daughters: Mary S. Burton of City Island, N.Y.; Rosanne Treacy Storms and her husband, Edward of Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y.; Christine Treacy of Cornwall, N.Y.; Elizabeth Nytko and her husband, Frederick and Jacqueline Baisley and her husband, Arthur, all of Highland Falls; two sons: Timothy J. Treacy and his wife, Viola of Boca Raton, Fla.; and Daniel J. Treacy at home. Mrs. Treacy was affectionately known as "Mema" by her nine grandchildren; John Burton, E. Scott and Kati-Anne Storms, Jerimie, Chad and Ian Treacy, Emily and Fred Nytko and Kerianne Mulqueen. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Chloe Storms, Makenzie Vandervort, and Joseph Burton in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A graduate of Highland Falls High School and Spencerian Institute, Mrs. Treacy retired after many years of dedicated service from the United States Military Academy, serving in the departments of Social Science, the Association of Graduates and the Adjunct General's Administration Office. A loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Treacy served tirelessly as a staunch advocate for individuals afflicted with developmental disabilities, in particular, Autism. Mrs. Treacy was a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Innocents where she served as Clerk of the Vestry for many years. She was a member of the American Legion's Ladies Auxiliary. Verdon of a long-time resident of Clintondale, N.Y.died Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a short illness. He was 68. The son of Arthur Verdon and Anna Griffin, Robert was born on September 29, 1937 in the Bronx. He was married to Jacqueline Baker on October 5, 1974 in Rosendale, N.Y. Until his retirement in 2003, Robert worked as a contractor at IBM in Poughkeepsie and Kingston for many years. Survivors include his wife, at home; his son, Jeffrey Baker of Highland, N.Y.; sister, Dorothy McCue of Soughgate Calif.; five brothers: Andrew Verdon of Tillson, Arthur Verdon of Catskill, John Verdon of Saugerties, Raymond and his wife, Florence, Verdon of Whiting, N.J. and Eugene and his wife, Sophie, Verdon of Horseheads, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.
