Dr. James A. Alborano of Matamoras, Pa., a Delaware Valley Elementary and Middle School Teacher and resident of Matamoras for most of his life, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, N.Y. He was 58. He was born April 9, 1947 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Arthur A. "Bo" and the late B. Eleanore Polley Alborano. A 1965 graduate of Delaware Valley High School, he received his BA degree in Political and Social Science in 1969 from East Stroudsburg University and his MA degree in History in 1971 from East Stroudsburg. In 1973 he received his M.Ed. from Lehigh University in Elementary Education and in 1974 received his Administrative Certification from Lehigh University. In 1991 he received his A.B D degree in Administration Policy and Urban Education from Fordham University. He was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church, Matamoras and was Vice-President of the Church Board of Directors and was Lay Leader for many years. He had also been the Church organist, Choir member, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent; a past Master and member of Orange-Sullivan Pomona Grange and past Deputy State Master, Neversink Valley Grange and Mount Prospect Grange; Friends of the Pike County Library; had been Vice-Chairman of the Pike County Republican Committee; a member of the Westfall Republican Committee for 15 years; member of the Matamoras-Westfall Republican Club and had served as Pike County Historian, Westfall Township Historian and Matamoras Borough Historian; was a Westfall Township Auditor and served on the Township Vacancy Board. His professional memberships included National Education Association, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Public School Employees Association, Pike County Education Association and was in Who's Who of American Teachers. Dr. Alborano was also a member of the Tri-State Community Chorus and was a former member of the Pike County 4-H Development Fund Board, Pike County Committee on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution and Children and Youth Services Advisory Board of Pike County. He is survived by several cousins. There will be no visitation. Robert Barnhart, a lifelong resident of Lew Beach, died at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pa. on Monday, December 22, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with numerous health issues. He was 77. The son of Hugh S. and Grace Denman Barnhart, he was born on January 27, 1928. Robert owned and operated a dairy farm until it was sold in 1979. He then started an agricultural service business. He was a former Town Councilman of Hardenburgh, also serving there for Highway Superintendent for a number of years; a past member of the Livingston Manor Ambulance Corps; former Livingston Manor School Board member; past President of the Sullivan County Extension Service. He was also a 55-year member of Livingston Manor Lodge #791 F&AM, and a charter member of the Beaverkill Valley Fire Department. Bob will be remembered for his strength of character, good nature, sense of humor and devotion to family and friends. He will forever be in our hearts, deeply loved and missed. Jeanne was born in Pompton Plains, N.J. on November 11, 1929, the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Holbrooke) Smith. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. Bauer, Sr. and a daughter, Sherrie Thiel. She is survived by four sons, Patrick J. Cox, Sr., a Stationary Engineer with Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown for 26 years, and lifelong area resident, died Friday, December 23, 2005 at his home in Middletown, N.Y. He was 61. The son of David M. Cox and Elizabeth M. Kurz Cox, he was born November 1, 1944 in Middletown, N.Y. He was a member of the North Congregational Church in Middletown. Barry was a Vietnam veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force at Son Nhut Air Force Base in Saigon. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post 151 in Middletown; and was the first Vietnam veteran to serve as a commander of an American Legion post in Orange County. He was an all-state Post Commander of V.F.W. Post 5523 in the Town of Wallkill; a member of V.F.W. Post 692 in Middletown; member of Hoffman Lodge No. 412; Free and Accepted Masons in Middletown, where he formerly served as Junior and Senior Master of Ceremonies and as a Trustee; was a member of Cyprus Temple Shriners of Albany, N.Y.; member, past President and former Treasurer of the Orange County Shrine Club; member and past Commander of Beth El Post 29 Masonic War Veterans and currently serving as 2nd Lieutenant Commander General Grand Post Masonic War Veterans State of N.Y. Curesky, Francis Francis Curesky of Modena, a driver for Wallkill Correctional Facility, Wallkill and a lifelong resident of the area died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in Goshen due to complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 72. The son of the late Mitchell and Agatha Puchalski Curesky, he was born April 11, 1933 in Wallkill. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, past member of the Wallkill Volunteer Fire Dept., C.S.E.A. and A.A.R.P. A family statement reads: "He had a 'heart of gold,' was a kind and generous person, always willing to help family, friends, neighbors and even strangers at times. He loved to attend auctions and flea markets with friends and enjoyed taking the elderly out for dinner and a car ride. His recently acquired 'family' at the Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center states that he was a very special, wonderful person. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him." Sadly, William A. Duperreault died peacefully at the Castle Point VA Nursing Home Unit B-2 on December 20, 2005 surrounded by loving family and caring staff. The son of the late MaryJane Neely and Adolphus Duperreault born August 15, 1920 along with his twin sister in Baltimore, Md. August 1945, he married Margaret Cooke at the Monroe Street Church in Baltimore, Md. who passed away Sept. 1991 with whom he had four daughters, Margaret Fiorino, Ellicott City, Md., Melvina Loudermilk, Windemere, Fla. who died in 1998, Judith Parlier, Ellicott City, Md. and Carole J. Hasbrouck, Highland, N.Y. along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Julia Richards of N. Kingston, R.I. He was predeceased by twin sister, Jane Fleming in 2003 and is survived by his only brother Maurice Duperreault of West Springfield, Mass. He retired in the security dept. of Westinghouse Aeronautics after many years and was a United States Marshall. Mr. Duperreault was a WW II veteran. He was in the First Infantry Division of the Army more commonly known as the "Big Red 1" second to none. During his service time he fought in North Africa and the European Conflict. Captured by the Germans, he was placed in an Italian POW Camp. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and the French Prot‚g‚ Medal. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors and loved his family and those who were less fortunate. He was a brilliant man and spoke several languages. Holahan, Joseph Patrick Joseph Patrick Holahan, a resident of Pearl River, N.Y. for 44 years, died Friday, December 23, 2005 at Nyack Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Holahan was a Police Officer with the NYPD for over 21 years in the 34th Precinct, before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the NYPD Honor Legion; a recipient of the Medal of Valor; and was a member of the 1013 Club. He was also a retired Assistant Chief of Security for Ramapo College, Mahwah, N.J., retiring in 1995. Mr. Holahan was born March 7, 1929 in Yonkers, N.Y. to Thomas and Nellie Holahan. Mr. Holahan served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. He was a former Nanuet Little League coach. He loved his God, Family and Friends and will be missed by all. The daughter of the late Donat Benoit and Anna Schmidt Benoit, she was born March 3, 1958 in Yonkers, N.Y. Lorraine was very involved in the community. She joined the babysitting co-op and bookclub through the Women of Monroe Club. She was also involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe and the Lakeside Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary in Monroe, as well as volunteering at Dr. Eanelli's office, filing and doing other office work. She was involved in the Cornwall Singles Club. Survivors include two sons at home, Owen Palmiotti of Monroe, who attends SUNY Maritime College, and Brian, who is in his first year at Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.); her fraternal twin sister, Carol Baker and her husband, Bob, of Red Hook, N.Y.; brother, Fred Tunderman of Orlando, Fla.; niece, Nicole Baker; aunt, Ida Benoit of Seekonk, Mass.; niece, Danelle Pierce; and nephew, Kenneth Tunderman. Pone', Karen Margaret Karen Margaret Pone', 70, of New Paltz, went to God after she passed away peacefully at home. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Carlson; sons, Lt. Col. Adrian Pone' and Daniel Pone'; daughters-in-law, Cheryl Pone' and Simmone Pone'; grandsons, Daniel, Adrian Michael, Jordan and Christopher; as well as many, many other relatives, close friends and acquaintances. Karen was an accomplished concert pianist, gifted piano teacher and brilliant artistic director, but more importantly, Karen was a kind, caring and compassionate person and was loved, respected and revered by all who knew her. Karen was born in Cambridge, Minn. and was raised in Braham, Minn. by parents, Augustus and Florence Larson. In 1953, Karen graduated from Braham High School and furthered her education by receiving a Bachelors Degree from Gustavus Aldophus University and Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. In 1962, Karen married Gundaris Pone' of Riga, Latvia. The couple moved to New York and settled in New Paltz. For the next 43 years, Karen taught piano and music theory to thousands of pupils in the Hudson Valley. As a concert pianist, Karen performed at many venues to include concert hall performances, weddings, church services and social events, to name a few. As an artistic director, Karen was a leader and driving force behind the "Pone' Ensemble", a 25-year old organization, which furthered the popularity of contemporary music. She was also instrumental in establishing the SUNY New Paltz "Music-in-the-Mountains" program. Rabitow, Helen Helen Rabitow of Middletown, a salesperson having retired from Luckey Platt & Co. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. after 25 years, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown, N.Y. She was 93. The daughter of the late John J. and Domenica Papandrea Costantino, she was born January 26, 1912 in New York, N.Y. She was the widow of Edward L. Rabitow. Survivors include her sisters, Matilda Halstead of Highland, N.Y., and Leonora C. Doyle of Montana; her niece, Patricia T. Sullivan and her husband, Leonard, of New Hampshire; and her nephew, John Howe and his family of New Paltz, N.Y.; as well as many additional nieces and nephews, both near and far. She was predeceased by her brothers: Frank, Anthony, Joseph, Dominick and John and her sisters, Lucy, Jean and Theresa. She was 83 years old. The daughter of Frank Anberg and Nettie Morgan, she was born August 12, 1922 in Newark, N.J. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Spagnoli. Tomrop, Violet Helen "Nell" Violet Helen "Nell" Tomrop (nee: Turner), Greenwood Lake's oldest native and an amateur poet, having written of early Greenwood Lake, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. She was 98. The daughter of the late James and Alice Turner, she was born on March 10, 1907 on the east side of Greenwood Lake, N.Y. Nell retired from Bell Telephone (AT&T) after having worked for 35 years in both New York City and Tuxedo, N.Y. as an instructor and supervisor. She was a member of "The Pioneers" and a sister in the Eastern Star. A lifetime member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Greenwood Lake, she served as treasurer and in the Altar Guild, where she had been Past President. Survivors include her nieces, Zoila and Thelma Savale of Bellvalle, Thelma Helen Sharp of Port Jervis and Adele Louise Hanson of Montgomery, Texas, her grand-niece, Kathleen Winkler of Poughkeepsie and her grand-nephew, Joseph DePasquale of Old Town, Idaho as well as her step-daughters, Mary Schmitter of Carlstadt, N.J. and Helen Lynn of Austin, Texas.
