She had a B.S. in Nursing and Masters in Education, Teachers College, Columbia University; Pi Lambda Theta National Honor Society for Women in Education, contributing author to two text books- Medical and Surgical Nursing, St. Lukes Hospital Alumnae Assoc. member and past president. Jardin, Marie Marie Jardin of Monticello, former resident of Hurleyville, NY, Proprietor of the Village Tavern and a lifelong resident of the area died Monday, February 7, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. She was 80. The daughter of the late Chester Kinne Sr. and Flora Peterson Kinne, she was born November 20, 1924 in South Fallsburg, NY. Survivors include her daughter Barbara Yeomans and her husband John of Monticello, one son Anthony Jardin and his companion Nancy Millborn of Hollywood, FL; four sisters: Ethel Stratton of Apalachin, NY, Helen Skubon of Largo, FL, Bertha Cleveland and her husband Bill of Monticello, Utah and Edith Kinne of Harris, NY. Kinne, Florence Florence Kinne, a longtime area resident, passed away on Sunday February 6, 2005 at her home after a long courageous battle with heart disease. She was 79. Born in Dixon City, PA on December 22, 1925, Florence was one of five children born to the late Daniel and Christine Mikula Kowalchik. After graduating from college, Florence moved to Monticello, NY where she worked at Hamilton Ave. Hospital as a surgical nurse. There she met her husband Fred V. Kinne Sr. Together they scrimped and saved to purchase Reddy Trucking Co. Inc. in Monticello. Fred and their two sons ran the trucking company, while Florence worked countless hours in a career she loved- nursing. Florence retired from her position as evening Nursing Supervisor at the Sullivan County Infirmary when she became ill in 1988. She has spent the last 17 years doting on her beautiful sons, James and Fred. During the last 5 months, when Mom needed 24 hour care, her "daughter" Christiane and her "son" Fred III came and took excellent care of her so she could spend her final days in the home she loved so dearly. Florence was a member of Mongaup Valley United Methodist Church. Surviving her are her two sons, Fred V. Kinne and his wife Carol of Mongaup Valley and James Kinne and his wife Avis of White Lake; two sisters, Betty Pronko and her husband John of Oliphant, PA and Lorraine Maxwell and her husband Thomas of Cheshire, CT; 5 grandchildren, Fred V. "Bill" Mackey, of Newburgh, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest Sunday, February 6, 2005 in Fishkill Health Related Center after a long illness. He was 70. Son of the late Harold and Margaret (Rehrey) Mackey, he was born October 25, 1934 in Newburgh. Bill was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He retired from Sears in 1996 after 30 years; and was a member of Lockwood's Horseshoe League. Bill was a gentle man with a quick smile and beautiful blue eyes. He enjoyed doing projects around the house, horseshoes, and fishing trips to Canada with his dear friends. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Poch, 82, of Milford, PA, died on February 6, 2005 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ. She was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Association and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union. A self-employed restaurateur, she and her husband first operated Midtown Diner in Manville, NJ and later the Chester Country Diner, Chester, NJ until their retirement. She was born in Raritan, NJ on January 8, 1923, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Bunca) Yurek. She married John S. Poch in Manville, NJ on September 20, 1942. Survivors include her husband John; two daughters; Joan Zedowski of Hawley, PA and Shirley Gares of Highland, NY; two sisters, Helen Sudul of Manville, NJ and Edna Carter of Raritan, NJ; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Born on November 10, 1916 in White Plains, to the late Matteo and Irene Hayes Ricci. Martin was a WW II veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the Vails Gate American Legion and a retired maintenance foreman at West Point retiring in 1973. Survivors include his loving son, Mark and his wife Dolores Ricci of Staten Island; five cherished grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion Ethel Watkins and her family. He was predeceased by his son, Martin A. Ricci Jr. and a sister Carolyn Delaney. Ryder, Kent Lee Kent Lee Ryder passed away peacefully at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on February 2, 2005 after fighting a courageous battle again lung cancer. He was born to the late Hazel and Leland Ryder on March 29, 1935 in Matamoras, PA. Kent is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; his daughters, Debra Ryder Andersen of Houston, TX, Donna Ryder Maruszewski and her husband Steve of State College, PA; and his sons, Stacey Warner of Brooklyn, NY and Tyler Francis McPeek of Ritsumelkan Asia Pacific University, Japan. He is further survived by his brother, Dr. Blair Ryder of Modesto, CA; his cousin Lee Ryder and wife, Elaine of Memphis, TN; mother-in-law, Bette W. Smith of Matamoras, PA and Fort Lauderdale, FL; his sister-in-law, Kerry Smith Woods and husband Robert of Ferindina Beach, FL; his grandchildren: Christian Ryder Andersen, Ann Marie, Kristen, and Neil Maruszewski and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Stylians, Agnes "Mama" Agnes "Mama" Stylians, of Newburgh, died peacefully on February 6, 2005 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home. She was 89. Born on December 25, 1915 in New York, N.Y., to the late Varsamis and Susan Pappahariti Kokinos. Agnes married Alexander Stylians in 1945. Agnes worked in the Commodore Hotel in New York City and after WW II, she worked in the Defense Plants. She then went on to work at Brokway Plastics in Suffern and then at Surefit Industries in Mahwah, N.J. Agnes loved her family, gardening, crafts and crocheting. Survivors include her loving children, George, Susan and John Stylians. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander and a sister Connie Fragos. Sutherland, Jacqueline Frances McDermott Walnut Creek, Calif. Jacqueline (Jackie) Frances McDermott Sutherland, died peacefully, with her family at her side, February 4, 2005, after a courageous six year battle with cancer. The daughter of the late John Joseph McDermott and the late Christina Smith McDermott, Jackie was born and raised in Newburgh, N.Y. on December 19, 1933. In 1955, she graduated from Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y., where she met her future husband, Kenneth Sutherland. They married in 1957 in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1972, the family moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., where Jackie lived out her life. Jackie's primary focus was always her family and she believed that being a wife and mother were her most important roles. She was devoted to her children and supported and encouraged them during their various activities, taking great pleasure in celebrating all six of their college graduations. She treasured being a grandmother and enthusiastically embraced her grandchildren with the same love and devotion. In June of 2004, Jackie and Ken fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to her mother's birthplace, Aberdeen, Scotland. She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth Sutherland, Sr., and loving children: Carey Schiller and her husband, Fletcher, Kendall Abramson and her husband, Mark, Gail Markham and her husband, William, Jill Gebhardt and her husband, Philip, Kenneth, Jr. "Chip" and his wife, Suzi Walsh, and John Sutherland; her beloved grandchildren: Jack and Kelly Markham, Madeline Abramson, and Kara, Blake and Colin Gebhardt. Jackie is also survived by her three brothers: John J. McDermott III and his wife, Betty Jane, David McDermott and his wife, Carole, and Blake McDermott and his wife, Virginia; three sisters: Christina Jill Martino, Margo Booher and her husband, Bill, and Ellen Wheeler and her husband, Gary; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Peter Shand McDermott.
