Howard L. App, a retired Journeyman Electrician for I.B.E.W., Local 3 in Queens, N.Y., and 30 year area resident, died Sunday February 13, 2005, at home. He was 63. The son of Joseph App and Helen Carter, he was born February 19, 1941 in Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. Howard was a member of the Harry S. Truman Masonic Lodge #1066 in Queens, N.Y. Survivors include his former wives, Phyllis Ringer of Brooklyn, N.Y and Elsa Figueroa-App of Newburgh, N.Y.; five loving and devoted children: Mark Edward App of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lauren Kimberly App of Akron, Ohio, Sgt. Adam Christian App and his wife, Tammy Banks App, of Hollywood, Fla., Daniel Howard App and his wife, Olga Hansen App, of Newburgh, and Matthew Jonas App and his wife, Genevieve Diaz App, of Newburgh; five beautiful grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Kyle Howard Thomas, Kaylan Nicole Thomas, Kelsey Jane Thomas, Karinne Noel App, and Matthew Jonas App, II; five brothers and sisters: Charles App and his wife, Rosie, of New Jersey, Richard App of California, Dorothy Benevento and her husband, Salvatore, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert App and his wife, Gloria, of Florida, and Linda Cira and her husband, Dan, of Maryland. He also leaves behind dear friends, Linda Schiela of New Windsor, and Peter Malaszuk of New Windsor. "Dad, We stuck together through thick and thin. Love always, Daniel" "Dad, You were great and the best dad anyone could have. I can't wait to see you again. Love, Matthew" A family statement reads: "He was great, smart and sexy. He was a singer that loved the great standards. He was determined and frugal. He was mechanical, an electrician who wired the computer room that controlled the elevators in the World Trade Center. He provided for his family. He was loyal to his country, his mom and dad, his wife and children. He was a great father who threw his baby boys up in the air but was so gentle with his little girl. He was a private person who did not dwell on the amount of friends he had, but the quality of the one or two who were lucky enough to be counted as such. He required a lot from those he let into his inner circle, the most important one was not to force opinions on him, however, you had better at least listen to what he had to say about: economy, social issues, unions, American Indians, American History, and of course, the cosmos, evolution and Christianity, where we came from and where we were headed. He cared about all these things, but what he cared about most was his children and their future. More than anything, he wanted to ensure that they had all the necessary tools, guidance, knowledge and the know-how to get through life. Our dad did not have it easy growing up and he respected every penny that he worked for. He understood the value for saving for a rainy day, but most importantly were his values of being a decent, hard-working husband and father, and contributing to his country in a positive way. Yes, he was great and that greatness is carried out in his children: Mark, Adam, Lauren, Daniel and Matthew; all little apples who thankfully did not fall far from the tree. Thank you, Howie. Thank you, Dad, for a good life. May God take you into His fold and watch over you forever."
