Edward G. Callan, of Middletown, passed away Friday February 18, 2005, in the company of his loved one's, at home. He was 61. Born in Queens, N.Y. on December 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Elsie Thompson Callan. He was the president of Cal*Starr Plumbing and Heating, Middletown, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1097 and F.O. EAGLE Erie #544 of Middletown. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Callan; two sons, Edward S. Callan and Kevin Callan; his grandson, Thomas Pappaianni; and his companion, Mary Jane Klein, all of Middletown; and good friend, Kathy Hoover of Pine Bush; his sister, Marilyn Fitzpatrick of Brentwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Hay of Dade City, Fla., a former 55 year resident of the Monroe-Woodbury area, and a retired machine operator for Local #445, Star Expansion in Mountainville, N.Y., died Thursday February 17, 2005, at Heritage Park Rehabilitation & Care, Dade City, Fla. She was 84. The daughter of the late Thomas Talbot and Grace Cashin Talbot, she was born December 5, 1920 in Winchester, Mass. She was the widow of Lloyd R. Hay. Miller, Jean Jean Miller, a 63 year resident of Woodridge and the widow of Charles Miller who died in 1985, died peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY. She was 86. Jean was born in the Brooklyn, NY on May 8, 1918 the daughter of Max and Ida Kaplan Belsky. She was a longtime member of Cong. Ohave Sholom in Woodridge. She is survived by her son Ronald Miller and his wife Linda of Woodridge, and her two daughters; Sarah Levine and her husband Joseph of Scottsdale, AZ, and Diana Ellis and her husband Harry of New Paltz, and her brother; Philip Belsky of NYC and her sister; Francis Goldwasser of NYC. She was 95 and was born March 26, 1909 in Port Chester to the late Ambrose and Angela Maria Masi Melillo. She was raised and educated in Port Chester. She was married to the late Anthony Rotando, who was the Musical Director of the Capitol Theater in Port Chester. It was at the Capitol Theater where Mr. and Mrs. Rotando met. She was a retired assembler for Ward Leonard, Inc. in Mount Vernon, N.Y. Mrs. Rotando was a parishioner of the Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. She is survived by her daughter, Bette Johnston of Middletown, N.Y.; son, John Rotando and his wife, Phyllis, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Nicholas and Charles Melillo; and three sisters: Immaculate Kneer, Mary DiFilippo and Elizabeth DiFilippo. Schumacher, Helmut Helmut Schumacher, a longtime area resident, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus after a long and courageous battle with his illness. He was 66 years old. The youngest of four children born to the late Michele and Hilegard Steiger Schumacher on April 24, 1938 in Unteraltertheim, Germany. Hank migrated to the United States with the help of his aunt and uncle Sophie and Karl Frank, in 1956 as a Master Baker. He owned and operated the Middletown Bakery as well as Pilgrams Country Store and was affiliated with all the local bakeries. He married Margaret Gordon on August 16, 1964 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Middletown, where he has been a parishioner since 1956. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margaret Gordon Schumacher at home; two beloved children, Heidi M. and Michael D. Schumacher at home; one brother Werner of Unteraltertheim, Germany; two sisters, Maria Stoy and her husband, Walter of Wuzburg, Germany and Anneliese Voll and her husband, Robert of Nassir, Germany; two nieces, Yutta Geiger and her husband Wilfred and Christina Popp and her husband, Stefan; two nephews, Wolfgang Stoy and his wife, Erika and Stephan Vol all of Germany; one cousin, Daniel Fricke and his wife Bertha of Long Island, as well as several great nieces, nephews and cousins residing in Germany. Besides his parents, Helmut was predeceased by his aunt and uncle, Sophie and Karl Frank. Shurter, a retired maintenance man for Sterling Forest, died Saturday February 19, 2005, at home. He was 81. A resident of Walden, he also lived in Pine Bush prior to moving to Port Charlotte, Fla. The son of George H. and Gladys Taylor Shurter, he was born October 13, 1923 in New Paltz, N.Y. Edward was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Middletown Elks, the American Legion of Pine Bush, the Moose Club in Port Charlotte, Fla., and the German American Social Club of Cape Coral. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Pangia Shurter, at home; daughter, Bonnie Esposito of Walden; brother, George H. Shurter Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Pine Bush; sister, Geraldine DeGroot and her husband, Joe, of Wallkill; sister-in-law, Jean Shurter; two grandchildren, Silvanna and Dominic; and several nieces and nephews. She retired from the Alexandria School District in 1977 and to Largo, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. Weber and two sons: Richard and Bernard.
