Ann L. Borka, a longtime area resident, entered into rest Saturday, January 15, 2005 in Vassar Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 90. Daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Sinsigalli Revell, she was born April 8, 1914 in New York, N.Y. She was married to the late John Joseph Borka. Ann was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Barney and her husband Donald of Newburgh and Karen Duncan and her husband Roger of Newburgh; her sister, Josephine Polli and her husband Robert of Rochester; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Dominick Revell, and her sister, Antoinette Suraci. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor. She was the daughter of Thomas Mullins and Mary O'Keefe Mullins and was born in Brooklyn on May 26, 1918. She was the widow of Vincent Deutsch and is survived by her children: Arlene Deutsch, Geraldine Burton, Vincent Deutsch and Thomas Deutsch. She was also the grandmother of Pamela Burton, John Burton, and Emily Deutsch, as well as several nieces and nephews. Helen was also predeceased by her brother, John Mullins, Mary Mullins and Catherine Sommer. Karadontes, Chrysoula Chrysoula Karadontes, a homemaker and resident of the area since 1957, died Saturday January 15, 2005, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. She was 95. The daughter of the late Thomas and Evdokia Sikiotis Solomos, she was born April 27, 1909 in Sparta, Greece. She was the widow of Andrew Karadontes. A family statement reads: "Our mother was and is loved by all who met her. She was comforting, nurturing and funny. She took good care of everyone in the true tradition of old country selflessness. Mom lives forever in our hearts." She is survived by one daughter, Anne Maus; two sons: Peter and Thomas Karadontes; one sister, Pitsa Benetos; one brother, Dimitri Solomos; four grandchildren: Georgia Hart, Andrew Karadontes, Christine Karadontes and James Karadontes; three great-grandchildren: Kali and Jared Hart and Nicholas Karadontes; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mitchell, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died January 14, 2005 at Wingate at St. Francis Hospital in Beacon, N.Y. She was 90. The daughter of the late Angelo and Angelina DiBaggio Altopiedi, she was born May 4, 1914 in Malden On Hudson, N.Y. Viola was the widow of Michael Arthur Mitchell. She is survived by one daughter, Anna Marie Mitchell, of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Philip Altopiedi, of Newburgh; two sisters: Anna Crudele of New Windsor and Margaret Roe of Town of Newburgh; three grandchildren: Michael Vieiro and his wife, Mary Jo, of Newburgh, Gina Hillman and her husband, Tim, of Montgomery, and Anna Hillman of Connecticut; four great-grandchildren: Leigh Anna Vieiro, Joseph Vieiro, Brittney Hillman and Jake Hillman; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, James Altopiedi, and five sisters: Michelina Scarselli, Frances Kennedy, Lucy Longley, Ellen Trapini and Angelina Strang. A family statement reads: "Viola was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Her family was her first enjoyment in life. Her selfless and caring nature endeared her to many. She was an avid bowler. She belonged to Club 60 for many years and enjoyed all her senior activities. She loved to play cards, visit the casinos at Atlantic City, but mostly she enjoyed cooking for her family." Miriam G. Nitschke, 83, of Spaulding Lane, died Friday January 14, 2005 at the Golden Hill Health Related Facility, Kingston, N.Y., after a lengthy illness. Born April 10, 1921 in Liberty, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Flavius and Phoebe Roegler Grant. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1938 and from the Plattsburgh State Teachers College, now known as SUNY at Plattsburgh, in 1942. An area resident since 1955, she was a member of the Saugerties United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Ulster County RSVP Program donating knitted items. She loved to travel having visited Europe several times, Canada, Mexico and Japan and all 50 states. She enjoyed playing bridge, skiing and in her latter years she was active in knitting and rug hooking. Survivors include her husband, Norman E. Nitschke; one son, Neal Nitschke of Saugerties; one daughter, Nancy Forsythe of Saugerties; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Dr. Luther Grand, and one sister, Vivian Scherf. Her funeral procession will form at 10:30 AM, Wednesday January 19, at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, thence to the Saugerties United Methodist Church where at 11:00 AM her funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Perkins, Gwendolyn Mrs. Gwendolyn (Davis) Perkins, a retired nurse's aid from Morrisania Hospital in the Bronx, died January 13, 2005. She was 88. The only daughter of the late William and Jenny Davis, she was born on March 28, 1916 in Harlem, N.Y. Gwendolyn was a former member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Manhattan, N.Y. In later years she attended South Fallsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters: Sheila Willis and Beverly Nedd, at home; one son, Ronald Perkins and his wife, Margie, of Reston, Va.; a son-in-law, Surbrook Nedd, of Bronx, N.Y.; six grandsons: Aaron Nedd, at home, Gilbert and Christopher Perkins of Reston, Va., Claynard Norford and his companion, Melissa Schoonmaker, of Loch Sheldrake, N.Y., Sylvester Nedd and his wife, Allison, of Connecticut, and Jorge (George) Castalanos of Long Island, N.Y.; her granddaughters: Carmen Nedd of Maywood, N.J. and Skeeter Nedd of Queens, N.Y.; 11 great-grandchildren: Robert and Shamier Nedd, Syian Weaver, Gohon Norford, Anthony and Collin Jackson, Kourtney Bivins, Keon, Kevon, Kalim and Kianne Nedd; and many nieces, nephews and friends at the Adult Daycare at Catskill Regional Medical Center. Rivera, Karen Karen Rivera, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005 peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 50. Born in Middletown on October 18, 1954, she was the daughter of Eleanor Barker. She was the widow of Juan Rivera. Karen was employed as a daycare worker at Hilltop Daycare Middletown. She is survived by her daughter Tonya Lynch and her husband Christopher of Palm Bay, Fla.; 2 sons Joseph Gust, and Jay Decker of Middletown; her sister Lizzie Crandall and her husband Barry of Warwick; 4 brothers Bobby Barker and Jimmy Francisco of Otisville, Walter Humberk and his wife Terri of Chester, and Frankie Humberk; 5 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Scalzo, Mildred Mildred Scalzo died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Regency Grande Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dover, NJ. She was 93. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she lived in Coldspring, NY, moving to Hollywood, FL in 1970, coming to Netcong, NJ to live with her niece five years ago. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Scalzo was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Florida and the Italian American Club in Florida. She was predeceased by her first Husband Samuel Scalzo in 1973 and her second Husband James Scalzo. She is survived by four sisters Susan Bonono of Georgia, Josephine Michi of Florida, Louise Patterson of California, Claire Marshall of Netcong, N.J. She is also survived by her adoring niece Fran Brett and her husband Ed; two great-nieces Michelle Russell of Road Island, Gianna Scalzo of Netcong, N.J.; and many other nieces and nephews. Schrade, Richard Dow Clemson Richard Dow Clemson Schrade, of New Hampton, died in Georgia on October 15, 2004 after a long illness. Richard was born in Middletown on November 15, 1936 to William Alfred Schrade and Virginia Clemson Schrade. He was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. After a number of years as an officer in the Navy, Richard joined Clemson Brothers Inc. in Middletown where he eventually became chairman of the company. His great-great grandfather William Clemson, immigrated to the United States from England and then settled in Middletown where he was involved in the manufacture of hardware and was a founder of the Wheeler, Madden and Clemson Saw Company which occupied what is now the footwear building on Railroad Avenue. His great-grandfather, George Nathan Clemson, founded Clemson Brothers, Inc. and Victor Saw Works. The company building complex is still situated on the corner of Railroad Avenue and Cottage Street. His paternal grandfather, Joseph Schrade, was the president of the Schrade Knife Company of Walden and Ellenville. Richard is survived by his wife, Fredrique Russell at home; his son, Richard Dow Clemson Schrade Jr. of Stockbridge, Ga.; three grandchildren, Richard Dow Clemson Schrade III, Brennan Schrade and Marcus Schrade. Other survivors include his mother, Virginia Schrade of Naples, Fla., formerly of Middletown; sisters, Caroline DeWilde of Goshen and Virginia O'Keefe of DesMoines, Iowa; a brother, Joseph Schrade II of Mashpee, Mass; as well as nieces and nephews. He served as a National Director of the American Supply and Machinery Manufacturers Association and was a longtime chairman of the Standards Committee of the Hack and Band Saw Association of the U.S. Locally, he was on the board of directors of the Orange County Trust Company and for a time, he was a trustee and treasurer of the Museum Village in Monroe. Horsemanship and dressage were his hobbies and he participated in many events and competitions, including riding with the Windy Hollow Hunt Club of Warwick. He loved the history of railroads and traveled across the country to visit rail restorations. Steele, of White Sulphur Springs, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 71. Louise was a lifelong resident born in Black Lake on July 4,1933 to Clara French and the late Romeo Perrier. She was the widow of William V. Steele whom she married on July 7,1951. Mr. Steele passed away on July 13,1983. Louise had worked as a bookkeeper for Katz's Bakery in Liberty. Louise was a Charter Member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, had served as a Girl Scout leader, and had volunteered by delivering Meals on Wheels for the Sullivan County Office of the Aging. She had also attended the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. Louise is survived by her mother Clare Bena of Columbia, S.C.; 1 son Kenneth Steele and his fianc‚e Debbie Lorino of Liberty; 2 daughters Linda S. Holmes and her husband Lyman R. of Wurtsboro, and Donna Houman of White Sulphur Springs. She is also survived by 3 sisters Jeanette Hyzer of New Windsor, Albertine Perrier of Owego, and Celia Perrier of Columbia, S.C.; 10 grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Carolyn, and Kevin Holmes, Nicole and Theresa Steele, Zachariah Mercer, and Andrew, Kelly, and Taylor Lorino; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 1 Son William J. Steele. Taylor, president and founder of Corvette Specialty Center in Walden, N.Y., and longtime resident of the area, died January 13, 2005 in Manhattan, N.Y. He was 60. The son of the late Herbert and Dorothy Nolan Taylor, he was born March 2, 1944 in Cambridge, Mass. Surviving him are his wife, Diane McElroy Taylor, at home; two daughters: Annabel Champlin and Emily Taylor, both of Boston, Mass.; three brothers: Richard Taylor of Newburgh, William Taylor of Milton, Mass., and Robert Taylor of Quincy, Mass.; one grandson, Ethan Champlin; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, James Taylor. A family statement reads: "Tom was a kind, generous, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was a hard working entrepreneur who enjoyed gardening, traveling to tropical islands and spending time with his family and friends. As the president and founder of Corvette Specialty Center in Walden, N.Y., he fulfilled his lifelong passion for Corvettes and enjoyed the success of his business for over 30 years. Each year he took pride in his large garden and looked forward to sharing his harvests with friends. An avid traveler, he looked forward to weekends in Orleans, Cape Cod, Massachussetts, where he also spent his youthful summers as well as traveling to Hawaii, which he considered paradise. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family at their residence in St. Thomas U.S.V.I. Tom will be deeply missed and the permanent smile on his face will never be forgotten." A gathering to celebrate the life of Thomas will be Saturday February 5, 2005 from 2-7 PM at the Taylor Home. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory.
