Rafkin, Glen Curtis Glen Curtis Rafkin, 51, of Weston, FL, passed away Sunday morning, January 23, 2005 after a long and fierce battle with Colon Cancer. His wife Janis, sons, Brian, Scott and Kevin and his mother, Anneliese Jacoby were by his side. Glen grew up in Monticello, NY, where his multitude of part-time and summer jobs (bell hop, caddie, truck driver, carpenter, ice maker, tire salesman, bartender and pari-mutual seller) and life experiences (riding his motorcycle to the Woodstock Festival, hitch-hiking back across the country, performing with his band "Chico Slutz and the Four Bazookas") created a body of lore that would charm and entertain family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. He earned a BA from SUNY Binghamton where he met his wife Janis and graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1979. He had a distinguished career as a commercial litigator, first at Young Stern and Tannenbaum, P.A. in North Miami Beach and later with Greenspoon Marder Hirschfeld Rafkin Ross and Berger, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale- but more important to Glen than anything else was his family. His crowning achievement was raising three wonderful sons whom he loved, adored and was always proud of. Even while his star was rising professionally he always made time to coach his son's baseball teams and later attended all of their middle and high school baseball games where he was a fixture in his starched white shirt and tie on the bleachers. His proudest moments were their births, bar mitzvahs and graduations. He was a man of outstanding character and principles and he raised his sons to be confident, compassionate and responsible. He was proud of their achievement big and small, but most of the mensches they became. Glen was passionate about traveling with his family. He would spend months researching and planning the details of what would become unforgettable and often hilarious family trips to places family trips to places like Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Scandinavia. Though the last years of his life were difficult, he spent the good days trying to make sure that he built good memories to overshadow the dark times. While battling his disease, he flew Brian and Scott back from college to see his beloved Marlins play in the World Series, played golf with his boys and taught Kevin how to drive and showered his wife with enough love to last forever. He was sorry to leave his family, knowing that there would be a hole in their lives that would never filled. He lived passionately and fought bravely to stay with them. He will be missed forever. Memorial services will be held today (Tuesday) January 25th at 11 a.m. at Temple Beth Emet, 4807 S. Flamingo Rd., Cooper City. Family will receive friends at home after services and until noon on Friday.
