Carlton of Matamoras, Pa., a retired insurance broker and 12 year resident of the area, died Wednesday January 19, 2005, at Milford Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center in Milford, Pa. She was 82. She was born November 3, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Lester and the late Pearl Thompson Anderson. Surviving her is her son, Edmund E. Carlton and his wife, Heidi, of Shohola, Pa.; one daughter, Janice Juvrud, of Pompton Lakes, N.J.; seven grandchildren: Danielle, Kristen, Vanessa, Gwendolyn, Edmund J., Monica and John; and five great-grandchildren. The daughter of Leonard and Winifred O'Conner Knapp, she was born in Middletown on November 28, 1911. She was the widow of Linn A. Clark. She was a member of Washington Heights Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Falsetti, Betty Betty Falsetti of New Windsor, died January 26, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She was 90. Born on April 13, 1914 in Nesquehoning, Pa., she was the widow of Albert Falsetti, who died in 1993. Survivors include her children: Lorraine and her husband, Richard Gambino, of New Windsor, and Albert Falsetti, of Florida; dear sister, Irene Kuzma, of Pennsylvania; five cherished grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Hanlon, Anna Bevier Anna Bevier Hanlon, of Montgomery, N.Y., a retired teacher and a resident of the area for most of her life died January 26, 2005, in Rhinebeck. She was 102. The daughter of the late Richard B. and Maria Hopkins Bevier, she was born August 30, 1902 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Anna graduated from Montgomery High School in 1921 and then from New Paltz Normal School in 1923. She started her teaching career in Long Island then Gardiner N.Y. She then was a substitute teacher for many years in the Montgomery Schools and also worked as an attendance officer and a substitute librarian, tax collector and census taker in Montgomery. Anna had also worked as the Librarian in Warwick, N.Y. Anna was an 80-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montgomery where she had also taught Sunday School for many years and was active the Westminster Guild at the Church. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Local Grange Chapter for decades, lifetime member of the Huguenot Historical Society and the Hasbrouck family Society in New Paltz. Anna had also been a very active volunteer at the Montgomery Nursing Home. She was the widow of Earl B. Hanlon. Survivors include her sister Erma Byrum in Rhinebeck; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Richard B. Bevier and a sister Esther Trevorah. Knickerbocker, of Warwick, died on January 26, 2005 at Schervier Pavilion Nursing Home at the age of 93 years. Born on January 3, 1912, in Warwick, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Anna Yungman. She was the widow of Charles W. Knickerbocker. During World War II, she served in the US Navy WAVES for two years at Willow Grove, PA Naval Air Base, as SKD, Administration Building Disbursing Department. She was then employed by the United States Government in Orange County as a Senior Stenographer for 25 years in Goshen. Survivors include a stepson, Charles W. Knickerbocker of Glen Arm, MD; a sister, Anna Yungman of Pine Island; two brothers: Herman C. Yungman of Cary, NC and Walter A. Yungman of Coconut Creek, FL; several nieces and nephews. McCarthy, Sonya Barbara Sonya Barbara McCarthy, a 42-year resident of Cornwall and Cornwall-On-Hudson and a retired Medical Records Technician for the Cornwall Hospital, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Wingate/St. Francis Nursing Facility, Beacon. She was 76. The daughter of the late William and Harriet Morris Peterson, she was born December 27, 1928 in Washington, D.C. She was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church and a former member of the Church Choir for many years. She was an avid reader, which landed her on two quiz shows in the early 1990s "Jeopardy" and "Who, What & Where." She was innocent but not naive and had an open heart and open door. She had an incredible sense of humor. She loved to travel and was fascinated with British History. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Edward J. McCarthy of Lake City, Fla.; two loving daughters, Lynn Davis of Newburgh and Kathleen Eastwood of Cornwall-on-Hudson; a brother, Richard Peterson and his wife Margo and their daughter, and Sonya's niece, Sandra of Big Bear, Calif. Mrs. Scheff was retired from the Food Service Department of Orange County Community College, Middletown, N.Y. and a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown. She was the widow of Stanley M. Scheff. Surviving her are her daughter, Barbara F. Daughter of the late George and Jennie Duquette Houghtalin, she was born January 17, 1925, in Beacon. Lorraine wed her loving husband, Frank, on September 12, 1948. Lorraine worked as a homemaker raising her four beloved children. She was a member of the IBM retirees and was an avid parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Beacon. Besides her husband, Frank L. Shevetone, Lorraine is survived by her son, Frank J. Shevetone and his wife, Tina, of Wappingers Falls; her three daughters: Michele Hilton and her husband, Joseph, of Newburgh, Francine Shevetone of Glenham, and RoseMarie Shevetone of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Frank Hilton and Jennifer Hilton; and many nieces and nephews. The daughter of Paul DuPilka and Lillian Palmer DuPilka, she was born September 22, 1917 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the Shamrock Club of Poughkeepsie, and while her daughters were growing up, she was the assistant leader of their Girl Scout Troop in Poughkeepsie, and active in their school PTA. She devoted her life to her family. A family statement reads: "Vera's family wishes to thank the staff of Eden Park, especially the fifth floor, for their loving and tender care." Vera married Harold A. Sweeting in Poughkeepsie on September 7, 1941. He predeceased her July 31, 1991. Woodson, Patricia Vista Patricia Vista Woodson, an eleven year resident of the area, died Sunday January 23, 2005, in St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. Patricia Vista Woodson was the younger of two daughters born to Patrick and Teresa Lashley Woodson, in Manhattan, N.Y. Bonita Woodson was her best friend, partner in crime and big sister. They both attended Walton High School in the Bronx, N.Y., where their mother was a teacher. Patricia was an A student who graduated with honors and went on to do the same at Lehman College. Patricia then took on the challenging and rewarding career as the mother of four girls: Nsombi Woodson-Magalhaes, Charlene Woodson, Patrice Woodson and Antoinette Woodson. Wanting to give them the best life she could, Patricia moved her family to the Hudson Valley where they would be close to Patrick and Teresa, and join a community that would come to embrace and love them all. Large parts of that community are the families at Crystal Run Village, where she worked as a coordinator of Residential Services and at First United Methodist Church, where she was an active member. Patricia was an intensely spiritual person who took her role as servant to the church, community, family, and above all, the almightly Jehovah, as her life's work. She will be forever missed, but the light that God gave her to shine is too bright to ever be dimmed.
