William F. Bihler, Jr., 78, of Westtown, passed away on July 2, 2005 in Englewood Hospital, Englewood, N.J. Born on September 20, 1926 in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of William F. and Harriet Mades Bihler, Sr. Mr. Bihler was a retired fireman with the Jersey City Fire Department. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served with the Sea Bees. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warwick. He is survived by his wife, Edith Ratcliffe Bihler; his son, William Bihler; three daughters: Barbara Santoru of Warwick, Rosemary Montemurro of Goshen, and Karen Wisnowski of Linden, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine McCann of Ridgefield Park, N.J. and several nieces and nephews. A native of Far Rockaway, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Adolphine Franke Braghirol. He was the husband of 53 years to Betty Beam Braghirol, who survives him in Inman, S.C. He received his BA degree from St. John's University and a Master's degree from New York State University, New Paltz, N.Y. He was a teacher of social studies and guidance at Livingston Manor Central School; Monroe-Woodbury Central School in Central Valley; Florida Union Free School District; and Orange County BOCES in Goshen, until he retired in 1980; and he served two terms as town councilman in Chester, N.Y. He moved to Beaufort, S.C. and was a guidance counsellor at Beaufort Junior High School. Relocating to Boiling Springs, S.C. in 1983, he home schooled at SRMC and taught District 6 Adult Education Program until retiring in 1994. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater; was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League; charter member of the Hutchings-Caldwells Detachment #1134 in Spartanburg; member of the Military Order of Devil Dog #264, Tidelands; lifetime member of VFW Post #9539; member of MOC PT #3 in Spartanburg; Inman American Legion Post #45; and the AmVets #4. He was the recipient of the New York State WWII Veterans War Service Scholarship; president of Golden Kiwanis in Spartanburg; and the Jerusalem Temple Lodge in Cornwall; and a member of the Inman Presbyterian Church. Cohen, a lifelong Monticello resident, passed away at home on Saturday July 2, 2005, with her loving family and caregivers by her side. She was 86. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph G. Cohen, at home; her daughter, Susan Crown and husband, Ian, of Stamford, Conn.; and her son, David and wife, Michele, of Mileses, N.Y. Dorothy was born in Plainfield, N.J., the daughter of Charles F. and Caroline Rilling Duncan, on March 20, 1919. A graduate of Douglass College, which became Rutgers University, with degrees in Library Science and English, she met her husband, Joseph, in Petersburg, Va., where she taught grade school and was a local librarian. She was a founding member of the Temple Sholom Sisterhood and served as the secretary and librarian for the Temple Sholom Religious School in Monticello. Cosentino, Florence Florence Cosentino, a homemaker and retired saleswoman for Oneida Silverware in Monroe, died June 29, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was 89. The daughter of Camillio and Asunta Fusco, she was born May 29, 1916 in the Bronx. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital and member of the Hamptonburgh Senior Citizens Club. Florence loved her bird "Baby." Survivors include her son, Ronald Cosentino and wife, Frances, of Campbell Hall; daughter, Susan Bov‚ of Campbell Hall; eight grandchildren: Victor, Ronald, David, Florence, Vincent, Mark, Lawrence and Jennifer; 11 great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Vito Cosentino, who died in 1974. They were married in 1940 at St. Finbars Church in Brooklyn. She was also predeceased by a brother and three sisters. De Angelis, Alice Theresa Alex Alice Theresa Alex De Angelis, a lifetime resident of Chester, died Friday July 1, 2005. She was 74. The daughter of Joseph Alex and Amelia Van Regenmortal Alex, she was born October 29, 1930 in Monroe, N.Y. She was a telephone operator/mail carrier for Highland Telephone in Monroe; and was an assistant to her daughter, Connie, at her restaurant at 19 Main St. in Chester for 13 years. A member of St. Columba Church in Chester, N.Y., she was the organist for many years. She was an active member of Chester's "Golden Age Club" and was an avid NASCAR and Mark Martin fan. Year round clothesline user, she was known for her daily use. Her clothesline was her trademark. Her longtime four-legged companions were Penelope and Crissy, and outside friend, Snowflake. Withstanding a fatal illness years longer than expected exemplifies her tenacity for life and her closeness to her family. Her smile lit up many faces, along with Atlantic City, which she so enjoyed visiting frequently. Her most dear friend, gambling partner and trusted ally, Roberta, saw her through all of her ups and downs. The mother of six attentive and dedicated children, she is survived by four sons: Joseph John De Angelis and wife, Catherine, of Chester; Michael Anthony De Angelis of Chester; John Thomas De Angelis and wife, Dede, of Slate Hill; and William Peter De Angelis and wife, Carol, of Chester; two daughters, Connie Teresa Winters and husband, Gene, of Chester, and Catherine Ann Styles and husband, Kenneth, of Montclair, N.J.; brother, Joseph Alex of Auburn, Calif.; and sisters, Maryann Jones and husband, Robert, of Goshen, and Josephine Bloomer and husband, Bill, of Newburgh. She was also grandmother to seven active, beautiful, happy grandchildren: Gabrielle Styles, Maryalice and Teresa De Angelis, Kaitlyn, Christopher and Thomas "TJ" De Angelis, Billy "Little Man" De Angelis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Howard Feldsher of Middletown, a Music Educator/Composer and lifelong resident of the area, died July 1, 2005 at O.R.M.C., Horton Campus. He was 68. The son of Martin and Sylvia Singer Feldsher, he was born July 11, 1936 in Middletown, N.Y. Howard is survived by his wife, Eileen Sinkowitz; his sister, Analee Sah of Berkley, Calif.; his uncle, Saul Singer of New Jersey, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Howard was a prolific A.S.C.A.P. composer. He had two of his compositions recorded on CD and performed by the Kief Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Bulgaria. Many of his compositions have also been performed locally. He was an active member of Temple Sinai and served on the Board of Trustees as well as the Executive Board. Finch Jr., Daniel Morgan Daniel Morgan Finch, Jr., a lifelong resident of Middletown, died at his home on Wednesday June 29, 2005. He was born August 5, 1941 and was 63 years old. Danny was the son of Daniel and Veronica Finch, both deceased. He is survived by, and was very dearly loved by his two sisters, Bonnie Quandt of Indianapolis, Ind., and Nancy Crans of Bigfork, Mont.; three nieces, Kirsten Crans of Kalispell, Mont., Amanda Overton of Indianapolis, Ind., and Emily Williams of Boston, Mass.; and a nephew, Timothy Daniel Quandt of Fullerton, Calif. Two grandnieces, Abigail Overton and Morgan Williams; and a grandnephew, Willis Overton, also survive along with several cousins. Danny graduated Middletown High School in 1960 and was a member of the Planning Committee for his class's 45th reunion, scheduled for October of this year. Danny served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1968 aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, the country's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, on its maiden voyage, and also when it was called to the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1963. Following his military service, Danny began working at Orange and Rockland Utilities, where he held several positions until his retirement in 2002 after 33 years. Danny was a man of many talents and interests. His navel experiences were an inspiration for his years of leisure boating on the Hudson River. Danny was a 25-year member of the Newburgh Yacht Club, where he established lifelong friendships with fellow boaters. Danny was a craftsman in both functional and artistic roping and taught several classes on knots for fellow boaters. Danny was an avid sportsman, both as a participant and a spectator. He was an accomplished hunter and fisherman and took great pleasure in passing on his love of fishing to his nieces and nephews. Danny was also an excellent golfer and bowler. He was an avid fan of the Yankees and of NASCAR racing. Danny was an expert card player and spent many hours in his retirement in this pursuit at the Middletown Senior Center or with family members, whom he always soundly beat. Danny was particularly proud of his Irish heritage. His grandfather, John O'Brien, immigrated to this country in 1864, and his grandmother was the daughter of Irish immigrants. Danny was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Middletown Chapter, where he held the position of Quartermaster and was involved in the planning and organization of the club's yearly charity golf tournament. Danny was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Middletown. Gibbens, son of the late Helen Newsome, joined the U.S. Navy soon after graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1938. He served his country in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Lexington as a pharmacist mate during World War II. A lifelong resident of Newburgh, he retired from Federal employment in 1981 to devote most of his time to his passion for jazz. Having amassed one of the largest private music collections in the world, his knowledge and products were sought by collectors, jazz musicians and radio stations nationwide and abroad. Most recently "Geezerjazz" has contributed materials and historical notes for the producers of NPR's "Riverwalk, Live From the Landing" and Terry Blaine and the Mark Shane Quartet. Frank was married to Elizabeth Redner for fifty years until her death in 1991 and is survived by Elise Kroeze. Other loved ones include his daughter, Judy Axtell of Montgomery; two grandchildren, Randy Axtell of Newburgh and Beth Coleman of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Bernice Earley of Middlehope; and five adoring great-grandchildren: Zac, Sam and Molly Axtell, and Evan and Trent Coleman. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and married the late Robert McCarthy on September 26, 1937. Residing in Poughkeepsie for most of her life, she moved to Highland in 1991. Born March 22, 1915 in Warwick, she was the daughter of Harry Bradner and Anna Rutan Bradner. She was married to the late Ernest Ray Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was a bookkeeper and secretary with Garfield Gesell Public Accountant in Warwick, N.Y. She was the oldest living member of Bellvale United Methodist Church. The son of Josef and Josefine Kraker Rankel, he was born June 4, 1913 in Austria. Arnold owned and operated Rankel Woodworking in Ridgewood, Queens. He was a member of Most Precious Blood Parish in Walden, and the Gottscheer Country Club in Walden. Arnold had also played the accordion for the German American Club in Middletown. Sweeney, Marjorie W. Marjorie W. Sweeney of Middletown, died July 1, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 78. Marjorie was born March 7, 1927 in Goshen, N.Y. to Frank and Eleanor Durland Wittman. She worked for the Times Herald Record for 32 years. Mom lived life to the fullest. She always had a smile on her face, a song in her heart, and a dance in her step. She adored traveling the world with her friends and spent as much time as she could with her children on the west coast, as with her kids here on the east coast. Her grandchildren looked forward to her visits and loved her deeply. She was fondly known as "G-G" by her great-granddaughters and mom was thrilled to hear that another great-grandbaby is on the way. Mom was a hip granny who delighted in learning to use the computer and had 64 contacts listed on her cell phone. Wherever she was, people were drawn to her and she had a way of making each individual feel special. Her spunky spirit will be missed as she made her final journey with the angels into Heaven. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, John James Sweeney, Jr. in 1995. She is survived by her five children: daughter, Sharon Ruppert and husband, Larry, of Rock Hill, N.Y., their son, Michael Ruppert, and his daughter, Kaylin, their daughter, Amy Spalt and husband, Doug; her son, Michael Sweeney of Middletown, his daughter, Vanessa Sweeney and her companion, Lester, and their daughter, Ruby, and his son, Matthew Sweeney; her daughter, Kathie Sweeney of Placentia, Calif. and her children, Stephanie and Craig Draude; her daughter, Peggy Sweeney of Middletown, and her companion, Greg Ellis; and her son, Chuck Sweeney of Riverside, Calif., his wife, Dawn, and their children: Ryan, Kevin, Kyle and Brett Sweeney. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, June Wittman of Middletown; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Wittman. Marjorie was a member of Mulberry House Senior Center, volunteering 15 years through the Retired Senior Voluntary Program (R.S.V.P.); Middletown Golden Age Seniors; Happy Seniors Club; and participated in many card games; enjoyed Mah Jongg; and was a member of Canasta Group; Volunteer Women's Auxiliary at Horton Medical Center; was a line dance instructor; a past member of the River to River Cloggers; and was an avid participant in the Orange County Senior Games. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Wednesday, July 6 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville, N.Y. Turner, Nora Mrs. Nora Turner of Cuddebackville, a retired seamstress and 40-year resident of the area, died Tuesday June 28, 2005 at Hampton House, Wilkes Barre, Pa. She was 89. She was born December 6, 1915 in Cleveland, N.C., the daughter of the late Robert and the late Sarah Eva Turner. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Calvin Martin VanLiew, who died January 21, 1991. She is survived by a son, William T. Turner and his wife, Marion, of Capitol Heights, Md.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was 55. He was born October 15, 1949 in Goshen, N.Y. Survivors include his children: Scott VanDuzer; Mark VanDuzer and his companion, Lavina, of Liberty; Janis VanDuzer of Orlando, Fla.; Laura "Gege" Brewer and her husband, Thomas, of North Carolina; Aline "Breezy" VanDuzer and her companion, John, of Cuddebackville; Raymond A. VanDuzer II and his companion, Beth, of Fair Oaks, and John VanDuzer of Pine Bush; his stepchildren: Todd, Robbie and Nenia Ryan; and his lifelong friends: Earl and Ruth. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Marissa, Kevin, Leanna, Brenda, Ashley, Alexandria, Bradley, Austin, Alexis, Alyssa, Alana, Kalia, and Kalyn.
