Shirley M. Barrett, a lifetime area resident, died Saturday July 2, 2005 at Elant in Newburgh. She was 77 years old. The daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Thompson McCoy, she was born November 1, 1927 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Our mother was a warm loving compassionate and giving woman. She was a spiritual woman. She's in heaven with her husband, Ed, celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary on July 10th. For many years she was a "domestic goddess". After raising six children, she went to college and earned her degree. She worked as an administrative assistant to the commissioner of Human Rights Commission of Rockland County, N.Y. Our mom was a gift to us all. We love her and we'll miss her. WANDA DAVIDOWSKY Newburgh, N.Y. Wanda Davidowsky, of Newburgh, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Wingate at Ulster, Highland. She was 84. Daughter of the late Zigmond and Mary Bednarski, she was born July 15, 1920 in New York City. She was married to William Davidowsky, who predeceased her in November of 1979. Wanda was the first female manager for the Army Exchange at the United States Military Academy at West Point and Stewart Air Base. She was also the former owner of Lakeside Dairy. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh. Survivors include her son, William Davidowsky and his wife Debra of Connecticut; her daughter, Carole Davidowsky and her husband Stephen Cackowski of Newburgh; her grandsons, William Davidowsky III and Philip Davidowsky, both of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. Cordisco, Mildred Catherine "Millie" Millie Cordisco, a homemaker and 70-year resident of the area, died Monday, July 4, 2005 at her home. She was 87. The daughter of the late Sylvester and Mary Malchiodi Gnocchi, she was born January 23, 1918 in Tenafly, N.J. She was the widow of John Giles Cordisco. She was an active member of the Mombasha Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and was recently recognized for her 52 years of service to the organization which she joined on December 10, 1953. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Leisure Club, Jolly Seniors of Monroe and Harriman Seniors and enjoyed going on many trips and outings. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe. Survivors include her son Arthur John Cordisco and wife Eleanor of Monroe; daughter Judith Ann Hlavenka and husband Richard of New Fairfield, Conn.; her grandchildren Robert John and Maria Lynn Cordisco of Monroe; sister Louise Kasch of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother Joseph Gnocchi of Hudson, Fla.; brother-in-law, T. Hadley Jr., 80, husband of Virginia Hadley, passed from this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 12, 1925 in New York City, son of the late Alvan C. Hadley Sr. and Dorothy Uttley. He began his military education at the age of ten upon entering the New York Military Academy attending through his high school years. He was a 1946 graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point earning his Bachelor's of Science Degree. He continued his education by earning a Master of Arts Degree in Public Law and Government from Columbia University in New York in 1953. With passion and a great sense of accomplishment, Alvan completed his education by receiving his Doctoral Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky in 1999, at the age of seventy-four. During a prestigious twenty-nine years of dedicated service in the United States Army, Alvan received numerous medals and honors including the Purple Heart in 1951, the Bronze Star in 1964, and the Legion of Merit in 1970. Highlights of his military career include serving in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in Korea and parachuted into combat with the regiment. He served in Vietnam in 1963 and in 1967 with the 4th Infantry Division 3rd Brigade, Army War College, PA in 1967, served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Commander of the USA 5th Recruiting District, and Commander of Readiness Group in Puerto Rico. Following his retirement in 1975, Col. Hadley accepted the position as Superintendent of Millersburg Military Institute and served through 1980. From 1980-1990, he returned to his alma mater New York Military Academy and held the position of Superintendent. Col. Hadley was actively involved in the following organizations: MMI Board of Trustees, Civil War Roundtable, West Point Alumni Society, and Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the U.S. He was also a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Additional survivors are daughter, Signe Hadley (Sam) Dunn, of Lexington, KY; son, Kevin Hadley of Stuart, FL; stepson, Thomas (Debra) Spisak, of Tinley Park, IL; grandsons, Craig Dunn, Thomas Spisak IV, Derek Hernandez; and a sister Donna Hadley, of Sun City, FL. Florence was born May 8, 1933 in Spring Valley, N.Y. to Florence and Harry Pitt. Florence is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Charles Herrmann, of Millsboro, Del.; and her children: Deborah Irwin and husband, John, of Laurel, Del., Victoria Herrmann and fianc‚, Jay Lopez, of Laurel, Del., and Charles Herrmann and wife, Nancy, of Newburgh, NY. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Dawn Rosa and husband, Kenneth, of Middletown, NY, Norman Wilson and wife, Jenifer, of Laurel, Del., Jenafer Irwin of Laurel, Del., and Jacqueline Herrmann of Newburgh, NY. Mrs. Herrmann was fortunate to have two great-grandchildren, Kayla Rosa and Jared Wilson. She is predeceased by her parents, Florence and Harry Pitt; and her brothers, Clem Pitt and Harry Pitt, Jr. Florence was known to her friends and family as Minnie. Lohmann, a 37-year resident of Monroe, died Saturday July 2, 2005 in Nyack Hospital, Nyack, N.Y. She was 67. The daughter of John Sheehan and Marie Morehead Sheehan, she was born February 12, 1938 in Queens, N.Y. Mrs. Lohmann was a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y. A family statement reads: "She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and nurse." She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Lohmann, at home; a son, Chuck Lohmann and wife, Vicki, of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Laura M. Masker, 68, of State Route 12B, passed away Wednesday June 29, 2005 at his home while his loving family was at his side following a lengthy illness. He was born in Sussex, N.J. on July 9, 1936, the son of Milton and Mildred Currier Masker. On October 14, 1958 in Warwick, he married Carole Cahill. He was a lifelong farmer since childhood, helping his father on the family farm in Amity. He later became the owner of the family farm and operated it for several years. In 1968, Freeman and Carole purchased the Red Gate Farm, a much larger farming operation. They worked this farm for over 32 years, retiring in 2000. He was a past member and Captain of the Amity Fire Department and former member of the Earlville Fire Department. Freeman also served on various committees for Agway. Freeman was an avid hunter. Surviving is his loving wife of 48 years, Carole; his daughter, Dawn Palmer and her partner, Peter Lounsbury of Sherburne; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Marybeth Masker of Ontario and Darrell and Dianne Masker of Madison; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwendolyn and Mike Holodinski, Estella and Kenneth Youngman, and Phyllis and Bruce Miller, all of Warwick; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Rosemarie Masker of Warwick; his six grandchildren: Kimberly, Brian, Daniel, and Derrick Masker, and Leanne and Stacy Palmer; and one great-grandson, Chad Masker. Quinlan, Patricia was born on July 12, 1942 in New York, N.Y. In September 17, 1966, Patricia married Tom Matthews at St. Ann's Church in Fairlawn, N.J. Following the death of her mother-in-law, Patricia raised her husband's younger brother and three sisters. In 1982, she, along with her family, moved to Slate Hill from Bellrose, N.Y., was named a "Good Neighbor" in 1995 by the Times Herald Record; was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a volunteer at Meals on Wheels in Middletown. A homemaker, she was the widow of Albert Wood, who predeceased her on November 13, 1988. She is survived by four sons: Milton J. Wood of Hopewell Jct., Brian J. Wood of Glenham, N.Y., Michael S. Wood of Hopewell Jct., and William A. Wood of Nevada; six daughters: Catherine M. Pimm of Walden, Mary E. Ott of Wappinger Falls, Debra J. Cole of New Paltz, Gerri Johnston of Beacon, Toni L. Murphy of Beacon and Carol R. Lee of Hopewell Jct.; four sisters: Joan Schnetzler of Beacon, Kate Keenan of Beacon, Dorothy McGaughrin of Beacon and Shirley Cable of Beacon; a step-daughter, Patty Tritsas of Newburgh; 34 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Albert and Keith Wood. Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 7, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., Beacon, N.Y. Services will be held on Friday, July 8 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. David Eylers officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery in Beacon, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.
