He was 83. The son of Felix & Antoinette Karas Coleman, he was born August 28, 1921 in Florida, N.Y. Mr. Coleman served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during WW II. He was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Florida, N.Y.; member & past President of the St. Joseph's Holy Name Society; member of the Florida Fire Department. He held a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus and was instrumental in organizing the Babe Ruth Little League. John was also past Commander of the American Legion Post 1250, Florida, N.Y.; recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Hudson Delaware Boy Scout Council; member of the Polish National Alliance; and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. A family statement reads: "He was a loving man who took great pride in his family. He served people with commitment and kindness in his insurance business for 36 years. He devoted much of his time to his community and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him." Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Leona; son Ken of Florida, N.Y.; two daughters Kathy Weslowski & husband Tom of Warwick, N.Y., Karen Ritter & husband Andy of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren Brian Weslowski & wife Kathy, Amy & Anne Weslowski, Tyler & Abby Ritter; two great-grandchildren, Matthew & Katelyn Weslowski; brother Daniel Coleman of Florida; two sisters Rose Malik of Toms River, N.J., Dorothy Burroughs of Las Vegas, Nev.; several nieces and nephews. Dorothy Hope Cook, of Warwick, N.Y., formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Born in Detroit, Michigan on December 16, 1912, she grew up in Lockport, N.Y. and spent her adult life in Buffalo. She was predeceased by her husband Charles F. Cook. Dorothy moved to Warwick, N.Y. in 1989 where she was a member of the Warwick Reformed Church and the Warwick Valley Senior Citizens. Dorothy was an avid reader who enjoyed meeting people and making friends wherever she went. She was a role model for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. Her strength was her sense of humor and her positive approach to life, taking risks to make sure she experienced each day to its fullest. She demonstrated courage, perseverance, and a keen understanding of different points of view. She was a good listener and a magnet for her family who always felt comfortable confiding in her as she understood and was very sensitive to each of their individual needs. Dorothy was a Very Special person indeed! Dorothy is survived by her brother William Hope of Buffalo, N.Y., daughters Brenda Rounds and her husband David of Warwick, N.Y., Sally Whalen and her husband Jack of Katonah, N.Y., and stepdaughters Louise Sweitzer of Center Harbor, N.H. and Audrey Fellows and her husband Gary of Bluff Point, N.Y. She was also blessed with 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that brought her tremendous pleasure. The daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Anderson Cassell, she was born September 20, 1933 in Washington, D.C. DeMarco, a retired machinist for Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, N.J., and retired staff sergeant for 23 years in the U.S. Army National Guard, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis. He was 82. A longtime area resident, Nicholas was born in Garfield, N.J. on April 13, 1923 to the late Salvatore and Rose Pelliteri DiMarco. He was the widower of Marcella Stoddard DeMarco who died Dec. 20, 1992. Nicholas was a member of Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Port Jervis. He was a WW II Army Veteran, serving as a Master Sergeant participating in the Normandy Invasion of France on Omaha Beach. Survivors include two brothers, Joseph DeMarco and wife Norma of Jay, N.Y., Frank DiMarco and wife Marion of Plantation, Fla.; two grandchildren, Marcianne DiMarco-Holley and Mark DiMarco; two great-grandchildren Brooke and Brittany Holley; and several nieces and nephews. Douglas, Louise Louise Douglas, a retired bookkeeper for Highland Ice Cream Company in Newburgh and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 90. The daughter of the Late William and Minnie See Douglas, she was born April 19, 1915 in Newburgh. She was a member of Meadowhill Reformed Church. Survivors include her niece, Diane Martin of Mahopac; great-nephew, Brian Martin; and great-niece, Kimberly Martin. Fuchs, Emanuel "Manny" Emanuel "Manny" Fuchs, a former chief photographer for the Times Herald-Record, later retired Times Herald-Record Sullivan County bureau manager and 47-year area resident, died Friday, July 8, 2005 at his home in Middletown. He was 80. The son of Joshua and Mina Fuchs, he was born November 16, 1924 in Vienna, Austria. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving with the Counter Intelligence Corp. and was decorated for meritorious service. Surviors include his wife Michele Pluss Fuchs at home in Middletown; two brothers, Johanan Betan of Israel and Leo Fuchs of Paris, France; nephews, Harvey Betan and Alexandre Fuchs of New York, N.Y. He was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 10 at the Temple Sinai Cemetery, Route 302, Circleville. Cantor Lyle Rockler will officiate. Lockard, Elizabeth Eastment Elizabeth Eastment Lockard died at her home in Warwick on July 8, 2005, following a prolonged struggle with throat cancer. She was 52. Betsy, as she was known by most friends, moved to Warwick with her husband, Arthur, in 1992. She loved Warwick and served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Literacy Volunteers of America and Winslow Therapeutic Riding. She was also active in the local Purchase of Development Rights campaign to preserve farmland and open space. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Cheritree Eastment and Clinton Eastment, both deceased. She spent much of her childhood in Lima, Peru, where her father worked as an engineer. She received her elementary education at a British girls school in Lima and became an expert equestrian, winning many ribbons in jumping and other classes. She returned to the U.S.A. for high school, graduating from Friends Academy in Locust Valley, NY in 1971. She graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1975 and obtained her Master's Degree at Suny New Paltz in the mid-1990's. She was a gifted linguist and taught at a number of language schools following college. She worked for Varig Airlines for more than 15 years, a career that let her travel to almost every country in the world. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Lockard, whom she married in 1988; by her brothers - Anthony Eastment of Denver, CO; Jeffrey Eastment and his wife Geri of Falmouth, ME; Robert Eastment and his wife Julia and daughter Juliana of Oyster Bay, NY; her stepmother, Cleunice Eastment; her stepbrother, John of Rocky Point, NY. Wood, a former Suffern resident and resident of Lake George, N.Y., passed away July 6, 2005 at the age of 90. Born in Suffern, N.Y. to Tomaso and Christine (Vantora) Checke, Mary worked for Avon Products in Suffern. Mary is survived by her children: Loretta Wood Kelly, Gloria Wood, Irene Wood Gallagher and husband, Daniel, Virginia Wood Zaleski and husband, Phillip, Richard Wood and wife, Adele, Robert Wood and wife, Diana, Roger Wood and wife, Barbara; 26 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Irene Kock Checke, and Elizabeth Lilinho Checke; and one brother, Edward Checke also survive her. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christine Wood Winter, and two sons-in-laws, Irving Winter and George Kelly.
