He was 55. The son of the late John Stanley Barnes and Mardell Francisco Barnes, he was born October 15, 1949 in Goshen. Jack graduated from Goshen High School in 1968 and went on to retire from NYNEX in 1995. He was also a United States Navy Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years: Tracy West-Barnes, at home; three sons: Jonathan, David and Christopher Barnes, all at home; two loving daughters: Julie Lattimer & her husband Jeff of Middletown and Christi Rodriguez & her husband Jack of Greenville; three sisters: Marylee Brennan of Mass., Mardell (Sparkey) Fulton of Pennsylvania, and Ellen Dowling of the Czech Republic; five grandchildren: Joseph and Kate Lattimer, and Nicholas, Celine & Michael Rodriguez; several nieces & nephews. A memorial service with reception will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. at the Cuddebackville Reformed Church Hall, Route 209, in Cuddebackville. Barney, Lucille B. Lucille B. Barney, a longtime area resident, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 84 years old. The daughter of the late Ernest and Lucile Bertine Drew, Lucille was born on September 30, 1920 in Port Jervis, N.Y. Lucille attended Port Jervis schools, moved to Middletown at the age of 18 and worked first for the Paramount and State Theaters in Middletown as an usher and later at the Classy Leather Goods, also in Middletown. On April 16, 1946, she married James H. Barney at the justice of the peace. Throughout their 58 year marriage, Lucille and James enjoyed traveling and opened up their hearts and home to numerous foster children. Lucille was a member of the Philadelphia Church of God and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Lucille is survived by three children, Thomas Barney of Lebanon, MO, Beverly Barney, Barbara Smith and her fianc‚ Beldon (Mike) Van Waganan, all of Middletown; five grandchildren, Keryn Barney, Melissa McGrath, Kathleen Lynn, Michael Smith, Christina Jones; and eight great-grandchildren. Cummings, she was born December 23, 1926 in Summitville. Phyllis worked for many years in Wall Street and other financial institutions and industries. An accomplished singer and student of history, she was also a charter member of the Mamakating Historical Society and a Third Order Member of the Order of St. Francis. Drejza, 59, of New Windsor, NY, after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer passed away to her Eternal Rest on Saturday July 16, 2005 at her home with her loving family at her side. A recently retired teacher at Gidney Avenue Elementary School of Newburgh (GAMS), she was devoted to her classroom children and her family with a special energy and talents that inspired those around her to achieve. She was the beloved heart and foundation of her family. Born Carol Novak in Newark, NJ, she attended school in Haverstraw, NY, Ladycliff Academy of the Highlands, St. Thomas Aquinas College and the State University of NY, where she earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education and was designated as a master teacher. After high school, Carol entered the convent with the Dominican Order in Sparkill, NY to serve God for nearly a decade until 1970 as Sister Jean Edward. She was inspired in her youth by the model example of the late Reverend Edward J. Keehan. Her devotion to the religious life was not disguised in piety, but rather it was expressed in the joy of life she radiated in her daily activities. Among the Saints, she had a special devotion to St. Theresa of Lisieux and St. Bernadette of Lourdes. Among her special longtime friends are sisters Margaret Theresa of Manhattan, NY, and Laura Anne of Hays Montana.Later in life, Carol remained devoted to God as an active parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. In 1972 Carol married Edward J. Drejza in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony at St. Peters Church in Haverstraw, NY during a Mass celebrated by Father Edward Keehan. She touched the life of her husband for the next 33 years until her death, offering him the joy of her companionship, devotion, comfort, and contagious happiness. She inspired her three children with an unbounded selflessness, filling their home and their youth with laughter and a warmth that still envelopes them. Most especially Carol enjoyed traveling with her family. She introduced them to the ocean's beauty, the delight of Disney World, and the allure of the tropics. In her last months, she still found joy in visiting these places. At home, she loved watching the Yankees, dancing, playing the accordion, attending concerts everything that was full of life. Carol was a true friend who extended her enthusiastic love to so many and lived life with boundless joy. She dedicated herself to community and family in accordance with God's will and her own big heart. She was and is her husband's blessed little flower. "My blessed little flower, you shall be missed so deeply, but now enjoy the eternal peace of everlasting love with God. You have inspired us all with your life: 'The greatest thing you'll ever learn- is to love and be loved in return.' Everyone whose lives you touched loves you. LUX AETERNUM." In 1949, she graduated from the Mount Saint Mary Academy in Newburgh. She later served as President of the Academy's Alumni Association. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1990. Luhrs, Wilhelmine Fahrenkrug Wilhelmine Fahrenkrug Luhrs, 97, formerly of Beach Lake, Pa. and Jeffersonville, N.Y., passed away quietly on July 15, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Adolph Luhrs. She is survived by two devoted cousins, Conrad Aasen and wife Nancy of Fork Union, Va. and Lorne Nissen of Jeffersonville, N.Y. and Barneveld, N.Y.; as well as many other family and friends. Wilma was born in New York City and retired from working as a bookkeeper in 1958. After their retirement, she and her husband moved to Jeffersonville, N.Y. where they lived for 31 years before his death. In 1990, Wilma moved to Wayne Delaware Manor in Beach Lake, Pa., residing there until May of this year, at which time she moved into Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel. Wilma was a member of the Lincoln Chapter, No. 463 of the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York for 26 years. She also was an avid pinochle player into her 90s, enjoying the company of her many friends. Wilma's smile and special sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew her. Charles Samuel White, 78, of Bracey, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 in South Hill, Va. A native of Middletown, N.Y., he was retired from Orange County Gov't Center in Goshen, N.Y.; was a US Air Force Veteran and formerly was active in the Civil Air Patrol. He is survived by his wife Florence L. White; his mother Martha Rogers White of Beverly Hill, Fla.; three daughters, JoAnn L. Courter and husband Wygant of Bracey, Janet M. White and companion Raymond of Middletown, N.Y., Joyce W. Karsten and husband Joseph of Moncure, N.C.; one son, Charles Edson White and his wife Cheryl of Matthews, N.C.; one sister Evelyn Youngblood of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and a brother Alfred White of South Hill. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen M. Larsen. Wright, Rose Rose Wright, of Middletown, a seamstress and a lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. She was 87. The daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Gloriosa Ribando, she was born March 10, 1918 in Chester, N.Y. She was the widow of Charles Wright. She was a member of the Golden Age Senior Citizens in Middletown. Survivors include her son, Charles Wright and his wife Theresa of Middletown; sisters, Josephine Green of Linden, N.J. and Lucy Wyant of the state of Florida; grandchildren, Ruth, Linda, Kathy, Michael and Brian; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry, John and Nicholas; her sisters, Mary, Virginia, Frances and Anna; and her granddaughter, Sandra. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 20 at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home Inc., 72 W. Main St., Middletown.
