John R. Doering, a lifetime area resident, died July 22, 2005 at Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall. He was 47. The son of Margaret Anderson Coupart and the late James Doering, he was born September 11, 1957 in Cornwall, N.Y. John was an avid Yankee baseball and Giants football fan. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing. A family statement reads: "He was a loving companion, son, father, brother and friend. We will all miss him." Survivors include his fianc‚e, Peggi Morgan, of Cornwall; mother, Margaret Coupart and husband, Tom, of Marlboro; sons, Karl Morgan of Cornwall and John Doering Jr. of Wappingers Falls; daughters, Randee Morgan of Cornwall and Jessica Doering of Wappingers Falls; brothers, Thomas Coupart and wife, Linda, of Marlboro, James Doering and wife, Yeni, of state of Florida, and Michael Coupart and wife, Cyndi, of Newburgh; sisters, Cindy Woodward and husband, Jim, of Town of Newburgh, Miki Troncillito and husband, Gary, of Marlboro, Vicki Gaetano and husband, Bob, of state of Florida, Jean Bell and husband, Bryan, of North Carolina, and Valerie Reilly and husband, Tom, of state of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Gardner, a retired longtime caretaker for the Lake Huntington Summer Community, died Saturday July 23, 2005 at his home in Monticello. He was 86. Son of the late Harry O. Gardner and Blanche Kildy Gardner, he was born December 22, 1918 in Maryland, N.Y. Harry was veteran of the United States Army, serving in Japan during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts, as well as a vestry member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Monticello. He was the widower of both Barbara J. Gardner and Caroline E. Gardner, and was also predeceased by one son, John L. Gardner. He is survived by two sons, Harry R. Gardner of White Sulphur Springs and Murry B. Gardner of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Frances Abildnes of Swan Lake and Arlie-Ella Bellina of the state of Florida; seven stepdaughters: Cathy Brown, Connie McKenley, Claire Harris, Carol Barry, Cindy Rios, Cheryl Montavo and Christine Breen; 15 grandchildren: Michelle, Barbara, Howard, Joshua, Anthony, Tara, Amy, Robin, Carlo, David and Benjamin, Colleen, Collette, Clarice and John; several great-grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Knight, a retired manager of A & P Food Store in Sussex, N.J., and lifelong resident of the area, died July 24, 2005, at his home. He was 85. Son of the late Harry Knight and Maude Wright, he was born July 13, 1920 in Sparrowbush, N.Y. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He was a member of the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161 in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was the widower of Catherine L. Knight and Gertrude Bell Knight, and was also predeceased by a daughter, Maria Innella. He is survived by two daughters, Janeen Gardner of Lackawaxen, Pa., and Terry Helt and her husband, Michael, of Lackawaxen, Pa.; one sister, Mary Jensen of San Jose, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Taylor of West Milford, N.J., a metallurgist having retired from U.S. Aluminum in Haskell, N.J., and an area resident for over 50 years, died Saturday July 23, 2005 at Chilton Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. He was 76. The son of the late Clark and Mae Tunkel Taylor, he was born November 1, 1928 in Paterson, N.J. A veteran, Mr. Taylor served as an Air Traffic Controller in the United States Navy during World War II from 1946 to 1949. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1443. He was the widower of Joan A. Taylor. Survivors include his sons, Mark Taylor and his wife, Katie, and Clark Taylor and his wife, Sharon; his grandchildren: Clark, Erin, Janelle, Zachary and Ashlynn; and his great-grandson, Gavin. He is also survived by his brother, Edwin Taylor, as well as several nieces and nephews. "Wild Bill" Thompson, a retired Town of New Windsor Police Officer, passed away on Saturday July 23, 2005, at home. He was 61. Son of the late Duncan and Helen Olsen Thompson, he was born April 24, 1944 in Newburgh, N.Y. He married Angela Crudele Thompson on May 7, 1989 in Newburgh, who survives at home. William enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967 after proudly serving four years. He was a member of the Orange County Peace Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans, New Windsor PBA, and the American Legion Post #4424. William also enjoyed working as a salesman at Morehead Honda, at West Point Tours and Argenio Brothers Construction. A family statement reads: "Billy was one of a kind. Everyone that knew him loved him and he returned that love. Angela wants his family, police family, and friends to know that they were very important to him and how much he loved them. Shadow is welcoming his Daddy with open paws. He loved his wife Angela very much." In addition to his loving wife, Angela, William is also survived by his two sons, Charles Thompson and his wife, Amy, and Scott Thompson of the Town of Newburgh; his daughter, Andrea Thompson of New Windsor; his brother, Charles Thompson of the Town of Newburgh; his sister, Patty Smith of the Town of Newburgh; his step-mother, Genevive Thompson of New Windsor; his mother-in-law, Anna Crudele; sister-in-law, Linda Riccio and her husband, Joe, of Saugerties; brother-in-law, John Crudele and his wife, Lizette, of New City, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Duncan Thompson in 1956, and his sister-in-law, Donna Thompson in 2004.
