Marion C. Boyle, a beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 2, 2005. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Boyle was born on May 23, 1921 in the Bronx to John and Mary Gilmartin where she was raised and graduated from local schools. Marion married Richard Boyle on October 7, 1950 in the Bronx. The couple moved to Rockland in 1958. Richard died in 1985. Marion worked as a librarian for the East Ramapo Schools. She was a member of the Heart Guild and also belonged to Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary. Her family stated that "Marion was the kindest woman who always cared for everyone around her. She was truly a phenomenal woman who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. The joy she brought to her family will remain in our hearts forever and she will truly be missed by many." Mrs. Boyle is survived by her loving daughter, Marion Loiola of Highland Mills; her three cherished grandchildren, Christopher Loiola of Rockland, Nicholas Loiola and Janine Loiola of Highland Mills; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters. Marion's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 6 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, with her interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. Burns, of Port Jervis, a 38-year resident of the area, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis. She was 80. She was born February 14, 1925 in County Cork, Ireland, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Helen Daly Sloyan. She was married to the late Edward J. Burns; he died Feb. 9, 2003. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Surviving are 3 sons: Thomas Burns & his wife, Jackie of Port Jervis, Robert T. Burns & his wife, Connie of Mendocino, Calif., James T. Son of the late Frank and Helen Wisniewski Giza, he was born in Goshen on October 2, 1933. He married Nancy Williams 46 years ago. He served his country in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years and was a combat veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Barney was the co-owner and operator of The Triple J Inn, Goshen. He was a life-member of VFW Post #1708, Goshen, a member of American Legion Post #1250, Florida, N.Y. and a member of TREA. A family statement said: "Barney was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, playing cards and socializing with friends. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to make people laugh. A soldier to the end, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him." He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, at home; three loving sons: John and his wife Leigh of Centreville, Va., James and his wife Kerry of Sutton, Mass. and Joseph and his wife Susan of Wurtsboro, N.Y.; four grandchildren: David, Jennifer, Heather and Alexandra; one brother: Frank and his wife Josephine of New Hampton; two sisters: Hattie Pieczontka of Pine Island and Jane Shuback of Middletown; sister-in-law Jean Giza of Gibsonia, Pa.; many nieces and nephews. Gray, William S. "Bill" William S. "Bill" Gray, of New Hampton, a farmer and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. He was 85. The son of the late Hugh and Lillian Post Gray, he was born July 7, 1919 at home in the Town of Wawayanda, N.Y. He was the widower of Viola Gray. Bill was a charter and life-member of the New Hampton Fire Co. where he had served as past chief and past commissioner and was Fireman of the Year, 1974 and 1987. He was a member of the Executive Committee for several years as well as the financial secretary for 40 years. He acted as delegate to the Orange County Volunteer Fireman Assoc. and was a member of the Fire Chief Assoc. of Orange County and the Veteran Fireman Assoc. A member of the Orange County Fire Police Assoc., he was OC Fire Policeman of the Year in 1994. He was an honorary member of the Ladies' Auxiliary New Hampton Fire Co. Bill Served as the President of the Pine Hill Cemetery Assoc. since 1970. He also served as director for both the Slate Hill Milk Producers and the Nedco Milk Producers. He was a member and past master of the Wawayanda Grange Member 1003 Slate Hill. He was a past member of the Orange County Cooperative Extension Services and the Orange County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his children, Lillian "Sis" Gray, Arthur Gray, William "Sonny" Gray and his wife Marge and Jim "Tookie" Gray and his wife Sue; his grandsons, Jim Gray Jr., Todd Gray, William A. Griffin Jr., of Napanoch, a former diesel mechanic and longtime area resident, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at Ellenville Hospital. He was 57. The son of Joseph S. and Sarah Sutton Griffin Sr., he was born May 28, 1948 in Newburgh. Church in Goshen and resident of the area from 37 years, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. She was 70. The daughter of the late Francis Kiesling and Theresa Edwards Kiesling, she was born October 18, 1934 in Brooklyn, N.Y. A family statement reads: "Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Catholic who never missed a day of Mass. Mary was loved by all who knew her." Survivors include her husband, Donald Gutierrez, at home; two sons, Thomas Gutierrez of Goshen and Steven Gutierrez of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three daughters: Donna Gutierrez of South Carolina, Angela Gutierrez of Derby, Conn. and Laura Gutierrez of Milford, Pa.; brother, Fr. Karasoff, Dr. Louis Dr. Louis Karasoff, a 71-year area resident and retired dentist in Middletown, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Marin General Hospital, Greenbrae, Calif. He was 90. The son of the late Isadore Karasoff and Minnie Klotchkofsky Karasoff, he was born August 11, 1914 in New York, N.Y. He was a member of Temple Sinai, Middletown, was a WW II US Army Veteran, member of Hoffman Lodge No. 412 Free and Accepted Masons, Middletown Elks Lodge #1097. Louis graduated from N.Y.U. Dental School and opened his private practice in Middletown in 1939. He served with the 10th Armored Tank Division under General George Patton and participated in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Bronze Star. He resumed his dental practice in Middletown after the war, retiring in 1998. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ellen Karasoff at home in Winterton; two sons, Paul Karasoff of San Francisco, Calif., Andrew Simon Karasoff of New York, N.Y.; daughter, Patricia Karasoff Lloyd and husband Perry of Tiburon, Calif.; grandchildren, Benjamin Alexander Lloyd and Sarah Elizabeth Lloyd of Tiburon, Calif.; brother, Julian Karasoff and wife Marie of Georgia; nephew Haskel "Butch" Karasoff of Key Largo, Fla. Sollinger, Jr., of Black Rock Rd., Warwick, entered into rest at home on May 29, 2005. He leaves his wife, Shirley Weil Sollinger; his children: Robert W. Sollinger, III and his wife, Angeline Ho Sollinger, of Reston, Va., Sally Marie Sandusky and her husband, Carl, of Boulder, Colo., Anne Elizabeth Murphy and her husband, James, of Fuller, Calif., Joan Patricia Kaiser and her husband, Edward, of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Mark A. Sollinger and his wife, Angela Parsons Sollinger, of St. Martin, FWI. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Miles Sollinger, Corey and Leigh Sandusky, Scott Kaiser and Samantha Sollinger. He was born February 25, 1927 to Robert W. Sollinger and Marie Beaulieu Sollinger in Syracuse, N.Y. He attended Hamilton College for his undergraduate work and did his post-graduate work at Fairfield University. He was a guest lecturer at Yale University School of Design and also at Syracuse University Newhouse School of Journalism. He began his career in Public Relations and Advertising with Motorola in 1952 in Chicago, Ill. In 1952 he returned to Syracuse, N.Y. to join the General Electric Co. and in 1963 joined the IBM Corp. at their corporate headquarters in Armonk, N.Y. He retired from IBM in 1987, having received several professional awards, including the prestigious Graphic Arts Award in 1968 and 1970. In his retirement he enjoyed being an active participant in the Warwick Historical Society and pursuing his many other interests. He particularly enjoyed Warwick and the many friends he made in the community. Interment will be at the Crown Hill Memorial Park in Clinton, N.Y. on a hillside overlooking the Chapel at Hamilton College across the valley. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make a contribution to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., or the charity of one's choice. Torrens, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 in Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh. She was 90. Daughter of the late Mary McCullough Torrens and the late William Torrens, she was born June 24, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pa. She is survived by nephews, William Lockwood of North Carolina, Charles Lockwood of California, David Lockwood of Georgia, and Richard Lockwood of Washington; niece, Helen Fortner of California; and sister-in-law, Janet Torrens of Fairport, N.Y. She was predeceased by her father; mother; brother, William Torrens; and sisters, Agnes Steinel and Elizabeth Lockwood. Miss Torrens retired in 1980 from South Junior High School after a teaching career of 44 years. She was head of the English Department and taught English, Latin and was also a drama coach and dance teacher. Miss Torrens was a tough, but fair, teacher with a great sense of humor. Her students had a profound respect for her. Mary was superintendent of Sunday School at Grace Church for 20 years. Also organizing a Breakfast Club to the delight of everyone who took part. Mary was a voracious reader and world traveler. She loved telling humorous stories of her travels to the delight of her friends. Mary chose for her service in Grace Church some of her favorite hymns and words of scripture. This lovely, gracious lady will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her loving, caring friends at Grace Church, the staff and residents of the Johnes Home, and former pupils and teachers she worked with throughout her career. Miss Torrens wished to have these thoughts included in her obituary, "Pupils have always been very special to me. This is my chance to say farewell to all the students I have taught over these many years. I hope that some of you can attend the church service. It will be our last class."
