He was 88. The son of the late John Ezra and Nellie Lybolt Barnes, he was born September 7, 1916 in Middletown, N.Y. He was the widower of Nellie Carden Barnes and Lorraine McKinney Barnes. A veteran, Mr. Barnes served in the United States Army during World War II. Gene was an avid bowler and bowled in the leagues in the Middletown area. Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Lee Barnes Riggs of Middletown, and Jo-Ann Kubik of New Jersey; and his son, Eugene W. Barnes, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of New Jersey. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Doris McKinney of Middletown, as well as 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Clifford, Clinton, John and Robert; and his sister, Irene. Buckley of Yulan, a retired detective lieutenant on the New York City Police Department, and a longtime Yulan resident, passed away early on Friday June 3, 2005 at Boca Raton Community Hospital. He was 96 years young. He was born December 26, 1908 in Manhattan, N.Y., the son of the late Daniel and the late Bridget Commerford Buckley. James was predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Eleanor Burke Buckley. He married Mary Harrington in 1983 and had a happy eleven year union. Committed to his community, and always being a "good sport", Jim was a member in good standing for over 50 years in the Yulan Fire Department; a member of the Elks Lodge No. 645 in Port Jervis; and the Lions Club; as well as a member and Sunday usher at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church. In Florida, Jim enjoyed playing golf with his sons and grandsons, where he was also an active member of The Christ Child Society of Boca Raton. He is survived by his two sons, James R. (Patricia) Buckley, and Robert S. (Claudia) Buckley, both of Boca Raton, Fla.; his grandchildren: Kris (Andrew) Sampson, Jodi Lynn (Taylor) Olsen, Michael Drew (Cyndi) Buckley, R.J. Buckley and Steven Buckley; his great-grandchildren: Vita Olsen, Kerry Olsen and James Bancroft Buckley. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Patrick (Mary) Buckley and several nieces and nephews. The daughter of the late Joseph P. Fina and Charlotte Maines Puff, she was born March 10, 1949 in Newburgh, N.Y. She is survived by her mother, Charlotte Puff; her son, William Davis; four brothers: Michael Fina, William Fina, Jeff Fina, and Gary Fina; two sisters, Diane Fina and Susan Toftegaard; loving friend, John Decker; and aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Son of the late Frank and Helen Wisniewski Giza, he was born in Goshen on October 2, 1933. He married Nancy Williams 46 years ago. He served his country in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years and was a combat veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Barney was the co-owner and operator of The Triple J Inn, Goshen. He was a life-member of VFW Post #1708, Goshen, a member of American Legion Post #1250, Florida, N.Y. and a member of TREA. A family statement said: "Barney was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, playing cards and socializing with friends. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to make people laugh. A soldier to the end, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him." He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, at home; three loving sons: John and his wife Leigh of Centreville, Va., James and his wife Kerry of Sutton, Mass. and Joseph and his wife Susan of Wurtsboro, N.Y.; four grandchildren: David, Jennifer, Heather and Alexandra; one brother: Frank and his wife Josephine of New Hampton; two sisters: Hattie Pieczontka of Pine Island and Jane Shuback of Middletown; sister-in-law Jean Giza of Gibsonia, Pa.; many nieces and nephews. Gray, William S. "Bill" William S. "Bill" Gray, of New Hampton, a farmer and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. He was 85. The son of the late Hugh and Lillian Post Gray, he was born July 7, 1919 at home in the Town of Wawayanda, N.Y. He was the widower of Viola Gray. Bill was a charter and life-member of the New Hampton Fire Co. where he had served as past chief and past commissioner and was Fireman of the Year, 1974 and 1987. He was a member of the Executive Committee for several years as well as the financial secretary for 40 years. He acted as delegate to the Orange County Volunteer Fireman Assoc. and was a member of the Fire Chief Assoc. of Orange County and the Veteran Fireman Assoc. A member of the Orange County Fire Police Assoc., he was OC Fire Policeman of the Year in 1994. He was an honorary member of the Ladies' Auxiliary New Hampton Fire Co. Bill Served as the President of the Pine Hill Cemetery Assoc. since 1970. He also served as director for both the Slate Hill Milk Producers and the Nedco Milk Producers. He was a member and past master of the Wawayanda Grange Member 1003 Slate Hill. He was a past member of the Orange County Cooperative Extension Services and the Orange County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his children, Lillian "Sis" Gray, Arthur Gray, William "Sonny" Gray and his wife Marge and Jim "Tookie" Gray and his wife Sue; his grandsons, Jim Gray Jr., Todd Gray, William A. She was a devout Catholic who never missed a day of Mass. Mary was loved by all who knew her." LaPenter, age 46, of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton. Born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. on July 16, 1958, he was the son of the late Dennis W. LaPenter and Dorothy Feistel LaPenter, who survives him of Middletown, N.Y. He was a retired entrepreneur; a loving son to his mother and devoted dad to his daughters, with a passion for Chevelle's. He had many, many friends and was loved by all. One of the great soul's of all time, he had a great sense of dry humor, who will be greatly missed by all of his loved one's. Larson, 61, of Corinth, N.Y., died Saturday June 4, 2005 at Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 14, 1944 in Middletown, she was the daughter of Martha (Easton) Brenan and the late Thomas Brenan. Mrs. Larson graduated from Middletown High School and then graduated from Orange County Community College with a degree in Nursing. She married Charles E. Larson on December 27, 1964 in Middletown. The couple resided in Middletown for over 20 years, and have lived in Corinth since 1987. Mrs. Larson was employed for many years as a Registered Nurse at Horton Memorial Hospital in Middletown, and also worked at Adirondack Regional Hospital in Corinth for a few years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and mostly enjoyed being with her family. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Charles E. Larson, at home; her mother, Martha Brenan of Middletown; two daughters, Susan Harris and her husband, Eric, of Wallkill, and Christine Larson-Mayaer and her husband, Carl, of Glens Falls; one brother, Robert Brenan of Buffalo, N.Y.; one sister, Eileen Conduzio and her husband, Arthur, of Lake George, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Michael Garti and Thomas Garti, both of Glens Falls, N.Y., and Lindsey Harris and Kyle Harris, both of Wallkill; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He formerly lived in Coopers City, Fla. and Yonkers, N.Y. The son of Dmytro and Ewdokia Gural Lotocki, he was born October 29, 1930 in Ternopil, Ukraine. He was a member of St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers, and the Ukrainian American Youth Association in Ellenville. He served in the National Guard as a Master Sergeant. Helen was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh, where she was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and the Bereavement Prayer Group, and was a member of the Newburgh Bowling Assn., where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame. She was a caring, loving person who touched many lives, and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann Paden of New Windsor; her brothers, John J. Eleonor Emilia Pasmik, a cherished family member, died peacefully on June 3, 2005 of pancreatic cancer at the home of her sister, Edna, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 6, 1925 in New York City to Paul and Elizabeth Pasmik. Eleonor graduated from Queens College in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree and later the Columbia University School of Library Science. At the time of her retirement, she held the position of Assistant Librarian at the New York University Medical Center. She was a lover of classical music, the fine arts, her beloved cat, Thomas, and traveling, which included trips to Mexico, Cuba, China, Hong Kong, Hawaii, England, Italy, and France. Using her library experience she volunteered at the Middletown Thrall Library Book Store and at the Horton Hospital Library. Her thirst for knowledge continued after she came to Middletown, she learned mah-jong, quilting, and water color painting. She was a member of the Women's University Club; the Middletown Art Group; and the Senior Citizens Club at O.C.C.C. Born on February 2, 1918 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of George and Irene Beierle. She was predeceased by her husband, George Donald Schaub and by her son, John Randolph Schaub. She is survived by her sons: Richard A. Schaub of High Point, N.C., and R. Lawrence Schaub of Ocean Pines, Md.; her daughters: Stephanie O'Hara of Timonium, Md., and Carolyn Thayer of Greenville, N.Y.; her sister, Agnes Pedicone of Elmwood Park, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Prior to moving to New York two years ago, Ellen was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Church. She was a volunteer with their Good Samaritan Program. An avid gardener, of roses especially, Ellen won many awards from the Maryland Rose Society. She was also well-known for her intricate needlework. He was born February 25, 1927 to Robert W. Sollinger and Marie Beaulieu Sollinger in Syracuse, N.Y. He attended Hamilton College for his undergraduate work and did his post-graduate work at Fairfield University. He was a guest lecturer at Yale University School of Design and also at Syracuse University Newhouse School of Journalism. He began his career in Public Relations and Advertising with Motorola in 1952 in Chicago, Ill. In 1952 he returned to Syracuse, N.Y. to join the General Electric Co. and in 1963 joined the IBM Corp. at their corporate headquarters in Armonk, N.Y. He retired from IBM in 1987, having received several professional awards, including the prestigious Graphic Arts Award in 1968 and 1970. In his retirement he enjoyed being an active participant in the Warwick Historical Society and pursuing his many other interests. He particularly enjoyed Warwick and the many friends he made in the community. Interment will be at the Crown Hill Memorial Park in Clinton, N.Y. on a hillside overlooking the Chapel at Hamilton College across the valley. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make a contribution to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., or the charity of one's choice. Torrens, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 in Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh. She was 90. Daughter of the late Mary McCullough Torrens and the late William Torrens, she was born June 24, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pa. She is survived by nephews, William Lockwood of North Carolina, Charles Lockwood of California, David Lockwood of Georgia, and Richard Lockwood of Washington; niece, Helen Fortner of California; and sister-in-law, Janet Torrens of Fairport, N.Y. She was predeceased by her father; mother; brother, William Torrens; and sisters, Agnes Steinel and Elizabeth Lockwood. Miss Torrens retired in 1980 from South Junior High School after a teaching career of 44 years. She was head of the English Department and taught English, Latin and was also a drama coach and dance teacher. Miss Torrens was a tough, but fair, teacher with a great sense of humor. Her students had a profound respect for her. Mary was superintendent of Sunday School at Grace Church for 20 years. Also organizing a Breakfast Club to the delight of everyone who took part. Mary was a voracious reader and world traveler. She loved telling humorous stories of her travels to the delight of her friends. Mary chose for her service in Grace Church some of her favorite hymns and words of scripture. This lovely, gracious lady will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her loving, caring friends at Grace Church, the staff and residents of the Johnes Home, and former pupils and teachers she worked with throughout her career. Miss Torrens wished to have these thoughts included in her obituary, "Pupils have always been very special to me. This is my chance to say farewell to all the students I have taught over these many years. I hope that some of you can attend the church service. It will be our last class." Warrener, a Verizon customer service employee, Newburgh, and resident of the area for many years, died June 2, 2005 at home. She was 71. The daughter of John Arnold and Catharine Coffey Arnold, she was born May 10, 1934 in Newburgh. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Montgomery. Surviving are her two sons, J. Christopher Warrener of Albuquerque, N.M., and Paul G. Warrener of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters: Cynthia Warrener of Kingston, Elizabeth Warrener of Newburgh, and Mary A. Warrener of Kingston; three grandchildren; three brothers: Jack Arnold of Walden, Thomas Arnold of Maybrook and Michael Arnold of Middletown; four sisters: Catharine Henderson of Delmar, N.Y., Marie Murphy of Goshen, Sister John Catharine of Hopewell Junction and Rose Arnold of New Windsor; and several nieces and nephews. White, Robert Robert White, a retired rural mail carrier and founder of Reilly's Ice Cream Parlor, a lifetime area resident, died Friday June 3, 2005 at home. He was 65. The son of the late Charles and Pearl Peck White, he was born September 28, 1939 in Cochecton, N.Y. A 45-year member of the Cochecton-Lake Huntington Fire Department, he was President of the fire department; a Fire Warden; Town Constable; President of the Cochecton Mens Club for over 40 years; Director for the Cochecton Preservation Society; and a member of the Cochecton Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hermann White, at home; two sons, Andrew and his companion, Irene Ward, of Cochecton, and Robert, Jr. and his wife, Marion, of Manchester, Md.; six granddaughters: Erin, April, and Brittany White; Robin and Heather Lutz, and Jessica Harrington; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Campbell of Honesdale, Pa., and James White of Chenango Forks, N.Y.; two sisters, Minnie Labar of Waymart, Pa., and Mary Samson of Whitney Point, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was 81 and passed on peacefully in her rocking chair. Mrs. Wilson was a member of St. Stephen's R.C. Church in Warwick, N.Y. She is survived by her two sons, James and Michael Wilson of Warwick; and four grandchildren: Phillip, Alexander, Connor, and Victoria.
