Barley, Royal E. Royal E. Barley of Cornwall, a retired Fire Inspector for the U.S.M.A. Fire Department at West Point, and a decorated World War II Army Air Force veteran, died Wednesday June 8, 2005 at Wingate at St. Francis Nursing Home. He was 87. The son of the late Pratt and Mary Maude Schultz Barley, he was born December 7, 1917 in Cornwall, and was the husband of Laura Antona Barley. He was a member of the American Legion Cornwall Post #353; a former Chief of the Vails Gate Fire Department from 1956 to 1958; a charter member of the Benevolent Association; a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; a former Boy Scout Leader, Cornwall Troop #20; and member of the Cornwall Golden Age and Senior Citizens Clubs. During World War II, he served with the 2nd Flight Squadron, Foster Field, Texas. Survivors include his widow, Laura Antona Barley, at home; a son, Roy E. Barley and his wife, Susan, of Springville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Allison Barley, of Geneseo, N.Y.; a grandson, Matthew Barley of Springville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Barley; and two sisters, Olive Lukacik and Elsie Chidgey. Conkling, Helen Dolores Helen Dolores Conkling, a lifelong resident of the area, and employed by the Port Jervis School System, died Friday June 10, 2005 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. She was 63. The daughter of the late Esther Mills, she was born March 30, 1942 in Port Jervis, N.Y. "Jack" Donovan, 72, late of Lackawaxen, Pa., died at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. on Friday June 10, 2005. Mr. Donovan was a retired engineer for Bell Atlantic in Monticello, N.Y. He currently was a general contractor, owner and operator of Donovan & Son, Lackawaxen, Pa. He was a member of the St. Ann's Church in Shohola, Pa; Holy Name Society; and member and past Commander of Eckert Haupt VFW Post #5635 in Lackawaxen, Pa. The son of the late John J. and Mary Hosty Donovan, he was born June 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was married to Philomae S. (Kashuboski) Donovan on October 20, 1956 in Nanticoke, Pa. He was a retired liquor salesman; a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War; was active in the Clintondale, N.Y. fire company; was chairman of the Fire Commission; member of the Knights of Columbus; a certified professional skier and level three ski teacher for more than 35 years for the U.S. Ski Association; an avid tennis and golf player; and founder and former president of The Villages Scooter Club. Hassler, Mary Mary Hassler of Cornwall-On-Hudson, a retired secretary/bookkeeper for the Town of Cornwall Supervisor's Office, and former Deputy Town Clerk of Cornwall, died Wednesday June 8, 2005 at her residence. She was 92. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on August 30, 1912 to Charlotte Houston and John W. Anderson, Mary moved with her family to Newburgh at the age of six, where her father was a building/contractor. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and the Spencerian Business School. On April 16, 1920, she married Joseph F. Hassler of West Point and Cornwall-On-Hudson, and took up residence for a short time in Newburgh before moving to Cornwall-On-Hudson, where she spent the rest of her life. She was widowed on February 19, 1976. Mary was an avid traveler and traveled the world extensively with her late husband; son, Roger; and friends, enjoying treks throughout the world and enjoyed fun-filled family reunions with cousins in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Mary was an active member of the Powelton Club Thursday Bridge Group and other area Bridge groups; the Cornwall-On-Hudson Parent-Teacher's Association; Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout Troops in Cornwall-On-Hudson; and had an avid interest in sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Hope Center, the Oblate Fathers of Balmville. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Roger Joseph Hassler of Cornwall-On-Hudson, who, for many years, was her sole and loving caregiver; a daughter, Joanne Wilcox of the Town of Newburgh; a sister, Charlotte Weyant Kupin of New Paltz; granddaughters: Mary Smith of New Windsor, and Susan Haupt of Cranford, N.J.; loving grandson, Gregory J. Wilcox of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-grandchildren; as well as cousins in Lincolnshire, England; Agen, France; Armagh, Northern Ireland; and Edinburgh, Scotland. Kruleski, age 80, died Thursday June 9, 2005 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Born in Keiser, Pa., he lived in Upper Saddle River, then Waldwick and Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Kruleski was the owner and operator of Leonard King Electronics of Waldwick for 37 years before his retirement in 1989. He was World War II Army veteran. Leonard was a member of the Orange County Golf Club in Middletown, N.Y., and the Ramsey Duffers. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn F. (nee Schmidt), three daughters: Dianne and her husband, Thomas Major, of High Bar Harbor, N.J., Lorraine and her husband, Kevin Carr, of Waldwick, N.J., and Kristen and her husband, Hal Scholl, of Montebello, N.Y.; and one son, Leonard and his companion, Jennifer Boaz, of Waldwick, N.J. He was 86. The son of the late Joseph and Philomena Teria Lombardo, he was born February 10, 1919 in Naples, Italy. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis; member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society in Port Jervis; life member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645 B.P.O.E.; life member of the Delaware Engine Co. #2 of the Port Jervis Fire Department; member of the Port Jervis Country Club; a volunteer at Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis; life member of the Musicians Union in Port Jervis; and member of the Port Jervis Band. Shorty also maintained his own band for 40 years. He was the widower of Ethel Hopkins Lombardo. He is survived by one son, Joseph Lombardo and his wife, Donna, of Port Jervis; two grandchildren, Brad and Lisa Lombardo; one brother, Charles Lombardo and his wife, Betty, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Maute, Esq. of Newburgh, died suddenly on June 10, 2005 at Arden Hill Hospital. He was 62. Born on September 29, 1942 in Elizabeth, N.J. to Frederick and Margaret Learce Maute, Sr., Frederick was brought up by his mother and grandmother, and his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Flemming, was inspirational in his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy; he graduated from Union College with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1964; and went on to earn his Juries Doctor from Fordham University in 1969. He married Victoria Santagada of Newburgh in 1966 and they had two daughters, Emily Elizabeth and Suzanne Learce. Fred worked as an intern for Congresswoman Catherine St. George, who convinced him to run for Supervisor in the Town of Tuxedo. He was one of the youngest supervisors in Orange County history during that time. He was very active in local politics and government along with the local Bar Association. He worked in Corporate Law and Securities Law for Cadwalader, Wickersham, and Taft, Brownwood, and Merrill Lynch, then settled into his own practice in Cornwall-On-Hudson. He was an avid golfer and court tennis player at the Powelton Club and Tuxedo Club, and regularly enjoyed the opera at The Met. Survivors include his loving children, Emily Elizabeth Maute of Arlington, Va., and Suzanne Learce and husband, Scott Lord, of Garden City, Long Island; his devoted companion, Carole Seneca; loving mother, Margaret and husband, Joseph Zoldak, of Florence, S.C.; dear sister, Joyce D. Smith of Florence, S.C.; cherished grandchildren, A.J. Lord and Jack Lord; nephew, William A. Smith; and niece, Lauren Smith. John Joseph Miller of Valrico, Fla. and formerly of Ulster Park, died June 7, 2005 at his home. He was 39. Born in Kingston on May 24, 1966, he was a son of Daniel John and Helen J. Romano Miller. John was a Kingston High School graduate, class of 1984. After attending college, he began his career as a mason and for many years was self-employed. John moved to Florida last year. Mitchetti Jr., Marty James Detective Marty James Mitchetti, Jr., a Police Officer with the New Windsor Police Department, died in an off-duty construction accident on June 7, 2005. He was 32. Detective Mitchetti was born on September 21, 1972 in Newburgh to Marty J. Mitchetti, Sr. and Elizabeth Bishop. Marty was a 1991 graduate of Newburgh Free High School and worked as a certified welder at West Point until 1995 when he joined the Orange County Sheriff's Office. He worked at the Sheriff's office as a Police Officer until 1998 when he joined the New Windsor Police Department on January 27, 1998. He served as Patrol Officer and was assigned as a K-9 Officer on February 23, 2001. In February 1999, Detective Mitchetti received the Excellent Police Duty Award for the apprehension of three suspects involved in a robbery and unlawful imprisonment of a local resident. In November 2002 he received the Meritorious Police Duty Award for disarming a suspect with a knife. In 2004 and 2005 he received the Honorable Mention Award. Marty was a member of the New Windsor Police Softball Team, a Third Degree Blackbelt, a fine athlete and a great poker player. His greatest accomplishment was building his own home with his brother, Chris, and his friends. Survivors include his special companion, Christine Muller; loving parents, Marty J. and Elizabeth Mitchetti; loving brother, Chris Mitchetti; and his paternal grandfather, Cosmo Mitchetti. Clyde was a 45-year member of the Iron Workers Local 417 in Newburgh; a devoted parishioner of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty; Knights of Columbus Father Cronin Council in Liberty; N.Y.S. Conservation Council; N.Y.S. Trappers Association; Sullivan County Federation of Sportsmens Clubs; Liberty Elks Lodge 1545; Aden Hunting Club; and a co-founder of the Aden Night Riders Snowmobile Club. The daughter of the late Jerry W. and Sarah Delany Sullivan, she was born October 18, 1918 in Clayton, N.Y. Cecelia graduated from SUNY Albany, magna cum laude, within three years with her Bachelor's Degree and from SUNY New Paltz with her Master's Degree in Education. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, N.Y.; and a member of it's Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Sullivan County Co-Op Extension; Liberty Belles; and a past president of the Liberty Central School PTA. She had taught at several local schools, including Eldred, St. Peter's and Liberty Central. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Norman H. Myers, at home; eight sons: Francis G. Myers and wife, Phyllis, of Rock Hill, S.C., Gerald N. Myers and wife, Rita, of Lewiston, Idaho, Thomas A. Myers and wife, Patricia, of Poughkeepsie, John H. Myers and wife, Robin, of Washington, Mich., Henry J. Myers of Liberty, Edward J. Myers and wife, Gloria, of Richmond, Va., William P. Myers and wife, Donna, of Pine Bush, and Michael D. Myers and wife, Nora, of Watertown, Conn; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, James and John Sullivan; two sisters, Kareta Paddock and Theresa Morgan; and a grandson, James Myers. Snyder, Robert F. Robert F. Snyder, an employee at SUNY New Paltz and resident of Highland since 1977, died June 10, 2005 at home. He was 63. The son of Clifford Snyder and Estella Coover, he was born July 25, 1941 in Baltimore, Md. He married Luanne Ellis on April 22, 1978 in Highland, N.Y. She survives him at home. He is also survived by three children: Amanda Snyder, Matthew Snyder, and Holly Snyder, all of Highland, N.Y.; two sisters, Amelia Hicks of Milton, N.Y., and Madeline Hedges of Maryland; and four brothers: Norman Snyder of Pennsylvania, Clifford Snyder and Eugene Snyder, both of Maryland, and Raymond Snyder of Pennsylvania. There will be no calling hours. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
