(Ki Ki) Luis E. Alicea (Ki Ki), a former cook at West Point, died Saturday June 11, 2005 in Dorado, Puerto Rico. He was 69. He was born on May 17, 1936 to Miguel and Venancia Alicea in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Luis married his beloved wife Carole Morgan on November 21, 1964 at St. Francis Church in Newburgh. He lived in Newburgh for 45 years and just recently moved to Florida 4 years ago. Also he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife Carole (Morgan) Alicea at home; three children, Sandra Alicea, Luis E. Alicea Jr. and Michael S. Alicea; his mother, Venancia Alicea; nine grandchildren, Melissa Sanchez, Jordan Oglesby, Alexis Alicea-Clarke, Tara Alicea, Kayla Alicea, Evan Alicea, Damien Alicea, Andreous Alicea and Zion Alicea; three great-grandchildren, Mya, Jalen and Kylie; one brother, Santos Alicea; four sisters, Mercedes Alicea, Luisa Alicea, Catalina Sanabria and Matilde Alicea-Torres. Aquino died Thursday, June 16, 2005 peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old. She was born May 24, 1919 to Joseph and Mary Mariano in New York City. On June 15, 1941 she married William J. Aquino Sr. at St. Mary's Church in Long Island City, N.Y. They were married 61 years, until his death September 24, 2002. Mrs. Aquino worked for many years as a lunch room aide at Minisink Valley Middle School in Slate Hill, N.Y. A family statement reads, "She was all about family, they were her life." Olga is survived by her sons, William Aquino Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Slate Hill, Thomas Aquino Sr. and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Slate Hill, with whom she resided; four grandsons, William Aquino III of Marietta, Ga., Thomas Aquino Jr. and his wife, Brandi, of Middletown, Stanley Aquino of Marietta, Ga. and Peter Aquino and his wife, Lillie, of Charleston, S.C.; one granddaughter, Laura Aquino of Charleston, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Montgomery Aquino and Kaitlyn Rose Aquino of Charleston, S.C. and soon to be born Logan Thomas Aquino of Middletown. Born in Queens, NY on August 22, 1912, she was the daughter of Alberto and Antoinette Fusco Dolce. She was the widow of Michael Biondi. She was a communicate of Our Lady of Mt. Cook, Augustus Augustus Cook, of Narrowsburg, a retired mechanic for the NY State Thruway and a longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 89. The son of the late Augustus Sr. and Elizabeth Hahn Cook, he was born July 16, 1915 in Somers, N.Y. He was married to the late Virginia Cook who passed away in 1985. In the 1930's Augustus worked as a cook for the CC camps. After moving to the local area, he worked during the summers for Ten Mile River Boy Scout Camps. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Caden and her husband Michael of Big Rock, Tenn.; one son, Warren Cook and his wife Kathleen of Yulan, N.Y.; two grandsons, James Harrington and Warren Cook Jr.; one granddaughter, Tami Harrington; two great-grandchildren Amanda and Laura Harrington; and several nieces and nephews. Beloved son of Capt. John W. Dorozynski Sr. & Annette R. Galante Dorozynski of Tuxedo & North Hutchinson Island, Fla., he was born on September 19, 1968 at New Rochelle Hospital. Derek worked at Orange County Environmental Facilities in Goshen, N.Y. for 16 years as a laborer. He was a Union member. He also was employed part-time in his greatest love as instructor at Sterling Forest Ski School, learning how to ski since he was 3 years old. He also loved to Jet Ski. He was an all season lover of sports, as he was proficient in playing pocket billiards & won trophies. His other love was ballroom dancing. Derek graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School in 1988, attended OCCC & Rockland Community College. He was a member since High School of the Sterling Forest Volunteer Fire Co. Derek will always be remembered as a ray of sunshine. May he continue in God's grace to shine upon us. He never had a malice bone in his body. God took him from us bodily, but in spirit, he lives on for all of us. He touched the hearts of many. Besides his parents, Derek is survived by his beloved brother, John W. He was a former coach of the Monroe-Woodbury Little League and an avid New York Yankee Fan. Richard "Goose" Gesvantner, a medical equipment salesman for Radiometer, died May 16, 2005 of congestive heart failure at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, La. He was 57. The son of the late Leo and Helen Gesvantner, he was born March 25, 1948 in Newburgh, N.Y. Mr. Gesvantner grew up and lived in Newburgh where he was a member of the Middle Atlantic Speed Skating Association, the Boy Scout Troop from St. Francis Church, and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1965. He was an Air Force veteran and has resided in the New Orleans area for the past 14 years. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth W. The son of Sidney and Estella Hall Graham, he was born on November 12, 1920 in Herkimer, N.Y. He married Dorothy Buel of December 28, 1942. A decorated World War II veteran, he flew 20 combat missions in Europe as a B-24 pilot in the 66th Bombardment Squadron, 44th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He received a BA and MBA from Syracuse University and worked in business management for 41 years for the Atlantic Richfield Co., Africa Inland Mission, the Kings College and Senior Citizens Apartments in Bridgeport, Conn. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1420 in Newburgh, N.Y. Moving to Newburgh in 1966, Alan and his family have worshipped at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church of over 12 years and previously worshipped at Chapel Hill Community Church, Oak Street Baptist Church and Leptondale Bible Church. He served as a church deacon, church treasurer and sang in the choir. He lived and died a faithful witness to the saving grace of Jesus and in service to man and God. His personal life verse was Philippians 1:21, "For to me is live is Christ, and to die is gain." Alan is survived by his wife Dorothy; son, Alan Clark Graham Jr. and his wife Barbara; daughter, Jeanne Estella Graham; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, John and Larry; and two sisters, Virginia and Ina. Guertin, Theresa F. Theresa F. Guertin, a Middletown resident since 1957, died peacefully Friday, June 17, 2005 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 87 years old. The daughter of the late Ange and Honorine Brochu Gagnier, Theresa was born on September 12, 1917 in Fall River, Mass. As a young woman, she sang french opera on the radio. She gave up a promising career to marry her beloved "Edmond" on September 25, 1943 in Fall River, Mass. Theresa became a homemaker, and raised six children. She was a very artistic woman, and a great seamstress. She shared her talents with her family and community and often sewed costumes for school plays. A very spiritual woman, she was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Church; she taught CCD and founded and ran the St. Joseph's Summer School of Religion. Theresa also started a letter writing campaign to keep prayer in school and strongly encouraged and promoted the value of a good education to her children and her husband of 61 years, Edmund J. Guertin, who survives her at home. Theresa is also survived by her three sons Edmund J. Guertin Jr. of San Pedro, CA, Lawrence J. Guertin of Stewartstown, PA and Richard J. Guertin of Middletown; three daughters, Madeleine M. Carlson of New York, NY, Jeannine M. Guertin of Middletown and Frances M. Van Kleeck, a lifetime resident of Pomona, N.Y., died at Nyack Hospital on June 17, 2005 after a 10-month battle with cancer. He was 62. Claude was born in Suffern, N.Y. on October 27, 1942. He married Susan Mikuszewski in November of 1968 in Suffern, N.Y. Claude retired from the Town of Ramapo after serving as Dog Control for 30 years and as a Cruelty Agent for the SPCA for 25 years. Claude also served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961. His love for his family was only matched by his love for the outdoors. Claude was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending his summers at Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, and playing cards. His zest for life should be a lesson to us all. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan of Pomona; his son, Claude Aaron, of Midland Park, N.J.; and sister, Gloria Jean Laupp of Washington State. Vanden Heuvel Sr., Rodney Rodney Vanden Heuvel Sr., age 89, died Thursday June 16, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. Born in Ridgefield Park, N.J. to the late Hubert Antoine and Elizabeth (nee Miller) Vanden Heuvel, Mr. Vanden Heuvel had lived in New York City for most of his life before moving to Matamoras, Pa. 20 years ago. He served in the United States Army during WW II. Mr. Vanden Heuvel attended the Riverdale Preparatory High School and Cornell University, majoring in Hotel Management. He had been employed by the Sherry Netherlands Hotel in New York City, retiring 20 years ago. He was predeceased by his wife Janet in 1972 and most recently, his loving companion of 16 years, Evelyn Smith on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. Mr. Vanden Heuvel is survived by two sons, Rodney Jr. and his wife Sue of Wantage and David and his wife Donna of Wantage; his daughter, Nancy Mira of Miami Beach, Fla.; his brother Stanley Vanden Heuvel of Darien, Conn.; and five grandchildren.
