John D. Agnew, owner of Agnew Plumbing in Newburgh, entered into rest on February 14, 2005 at Cornwall Hospital. He was 86. The son of the late Harvey and May Harris Agnew, he was born March 6, 1918 in Newburgh. He married Alma Taylor Agnew in St. Patrick's Rectory in 1941. He was a member of the Powelton Club, Hudson River Masons Lodge and the Master Plumbers Association. Survivors include his wife Alma at home; one son, John P. Agnew of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas C. Agnew. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow. Cantline Jr., Peter Peter Cantline, Jr., died Tuesday June 21, 2005 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen, N.Y. He was 90 years old. A lifelong resident of Newburgh, he was born May 25, 1915, the son of the late Judge Peter and Edith Whitehill Cantline. He was an avid hiker and an employee of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company, as a gas engineer for 41 years, in Newburgh and Poughkeepsie. He was a graduate of Cornell University and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. A member of St. George's Episcopal Church, he was warden emeritus; served on the vestry for many years; and also on several Diocesan Committees. He has been a member of the National Temple Hill Association Board of Directors for many years; a former director and trustee of the Newburgh YMCA; served on the YMCA International Committee; was active in the YMCA World Service Program; and was a former chairman of the United Way. A world traveler, he participated in YMCA Statesmanship trips to countries of unusual interest and in Cornell University study trips, its summer university; and was active in alumni affairs. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #309; the American Gas Association; Society of Gas Operators; the Adirondack Mountain Club; the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and Highlands; the Orange County Historical Society; and was active in the Newburgh Friends of the Library, and Friends of Downing Park. He was also a former member of the Board of the St. Luke's Hospital Foundation. Survivors include his widow, Elizabeth Owens Cantline; a daughter, Mary Owens Cantline of St. Regis Falls, N.Y.; one son, Peter Robert Cantline of New Paltz; a granddaughter, Lindsay Cantline; a sister, Mary Passenger of Newburgh; a niece, Edith Passenger Root and her husband, John; a grandnephew, Christopher Root and his wife, Linda, of Washington, D.C., and their son, Connor; and several other nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband Kenny; her loving children, George, Danielle and Collette; and grandson David. Koskella, Lucretia Canade 1928-2005 Lucretia, mother, sister, aunt, activist and humanist, passed away peacefully Monday June 20, 2005 after a long illness. Daughter of Vincent Canade, the first Italian-American supervisor for Orange County, she upheld his proud tradition of public service. She served the Orange County Republican Committee in the roles of Committee-woman and as a member of the executive board. From 1980 to 1996 she served as a publicist for Republican Senate Campaigns but did not neglect local politics at the grass-roots level where she served as a campaign manager for many local politicians. The Hudson Valley, in her well-traveled eyes, was the most beautiful place on earth. As an advocate for the environment and the Hudson Valley she was a charter member and organizer of Scenic Hudson, a member of C.L.E.A.N. Chadwick Lake and served to help numerous investigations into local environmental pollution. An advocate of the rights of all women, she was a member of the National Organization of Women, the Orange County Chapter of the New York Federation of Women and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, New York. Lucretia embraced life fully and loved to swim, golf, shoot skeet and held an active membership in the NRA. Many will remember her through her occupation as a real estate broker and appraiser. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Challis and son-in-law, Daniel Challis, as well as two sisters, Mary Canade and Anita Cosman, and brother-in-law, David. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We thank her for bringing joy to our lives in so many ways. Murray, a 43-year area resident, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at his residence. He was 82. Joseph was born on June 23, 1922 in Albany, N.Y. to the late James R. Murray and Hazel Kilroy Murray. He was a graduate of Siena College, Class of 1947 and the University at Albany where he received a Master's Degree in 1961. He taught French for many years and retired from Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley. He served in the Army and is a combat veteran. During World War II, he was in the 5th Infantry, and during the Korean War, in the 8th Calvary. He attained the rank of Lt. Colonel before retiring from the Army Reserves. He was active in the Reserve Officers Association and was President of the Orange County Chapter from 1986 to 1992. He was also a member of the West Point Retirees Council. He was a past member of the Newburgh Civic Players. Survivors include his brothers, James R. Murray of Albany N.Y., John G. Olson, of Warwick, formerly Elmira, MI, died on June 20, 2005 at Elant at Goshen after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. He was 80 years old. Born on December 10, 1924 in Cadillac, MI, he was the son of the late Gaile and Leah Thompson Olson. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corp as a navigator on a B-17. His plane was shot down over Germany and he was held as a POW for nine months. On his return home, he earned a mathematics degree at Michigan State and married his sweetheart, the late Antoinette Marie Guthan Olson. Charles was a retired Systems Analyst who worked for 35 years for General Motors in Detroit, MI. He moved to Warwick, after the passing of his beloved wife of 51 years. Survivors include his daughter, Judith Olson and her husband Frank Gualdoni of Rockford, IL; his sons, Charles F. Olson Jr. (Chip) of Centerline, MI and Kevin M. Olson and his wife Alice of Warwick; three grandsons: Jeremy and Alec Gualdoni and Jared Olson. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He was 68. The son of the late Juan and Paula Pena Serrano, he was born on January 3, 1937 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico. He was a member of the Greater Upper Room Apostolic Faith Church where he served as a deacon. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." A caring, giving and selfless man, Daniel was a devoted deacon to his church and was loved by all who knew him. Terry, Mary McClurg "Molly" Mary "Molly" M. Terry, a retired school teacher from Goshen, and longtime area resident, died Tuesday June 21, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 87 years old. The daughter of the late Dewitt and Mary Sears McClung, Mary was born June 27, 1917 in Little Britain, N.Y. Molly graduated from SUNY Albany in 1938 with a degree in education and on July 6, 1941 married Elmer "Red" Terry. Molly taught nursery school at the Middletown Synagague in the 60's and was a kindergarten teacher at the Scotchtown Avenue School in Goshen from 1967-1979. A volunteer at Horton Hospital since 1980, as well as Radio Vision since 1983, Molly was also an assistant with CROP Walk for six years and also, until a few years ago, a tour guide for the Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville since 1980. Molly was a member, as well as an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Middletown, where she also taught Sunday School and was the founding member of the "Kids First Program; a member of the Business and Professional Woman, Historical Club, Faith in Action Club and in this year was the recipient of the Bobbie Lahey Volunteerism Award. Molly is survived by her daughter, Susan T. Doty and her husband, Alan, of Cromwell, Conn.; son-in-law, Ted Harden and his wife, Marianne, of Middletown; two sisters, Helen McMullen of Ballston Spa, N.Y. and Harriette Armstrong of Olive Bridge, N.Y.; granddaughter, Laura Jenkins and her husband, Jim, of Medinah, Ill.; two grandsons, Sgt. Tulve, Mary Louise Mary Louise Tulve, of Newburgh, a retired teachers aide for the Newburgh School District, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at home. She was 81. Daughter of the late Anthony and Florence Griffin Ryan, she was born in Marlboro, N.Y. on July 29, 1923. She married Thomas J. Tulve on April 29, 1943 in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh, who survives at home. Mary was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. A family statement reads, "Mom was a very loving, caring, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The generosity and love she bestowed upon her family will be missed." In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou Botsford and her husband Steven of Newburgh and Patricia Ann Tulve Tompkins of Newburgh; her son Thomas J. Tulve Jr. of New Windsor; her grandchildren, Christopher Botsford and his wife Kaity, Dena Botsford and her boyfriend Brian Sherwood, Kayleigh A. Tompkins and Thomas J. Tulve III; her great-granddaughter Alina Botsford; several nieces, nephews, friends and Jakie and the boys. Mary was predeceased by her brother William A. Ryan. Verdi, Catherine Catherine Verdi of Newburgh died suddenly on June 21, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 62. She was born on January 19, 1943 in Beacon, N.Y. to the late George and Elizabeth Hunt Smith. Catherine graduated from Beacon High School in 1961 and went on to Dutchess County Community College to earn her RN Degree in 1965. She has worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Francis Hospital, Castle Point Veterans Hospital and most recently at St. Luke's Hospital. On October 28, 1981 she married Daniel Verdi in Newburgh, N.Y. Survivors include her devoted husband, Daniel Verdi of Newburgh; loving brother, Norman Smith of North Carolina; dear sisters, Laurel Wiley of Beacon, and Marion Thomas of Glenon; brother-in-law, Marcos and his wife, Blanca Verdi, of Newburgh; a sister-in-law, Aida and her husband, Lujan Guevara, of Newburgh; her dear god-daughter, Stephanie Marrero; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26 from 5-9 PM at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Route 9W, New Windsor, N.Y.
