She was 71. The daughter of the late Edward Havre and Viola Bjork Havre, she was born November 19, 1933 in Manhattan, N.Y. She was the widow of Enrico A. Carpentieri. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Monroe; former member of Sacred Heart Church in Suffern; and former 30-year resident of Suffern. Survivors include her sons, Michael T. Carpentieri of Monroe, Robert Carpentieri of Monroe; daughter, Rita Carpentieri of Suffern; three grandchildren. DeZemo, of Walden, a dairy farmer and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 in Cornwall, after a long battle with heart disease. He was 73. The son of George DeZemo and Myrtle Meritt DeZemo, he was born September 24, 1931 in Walden. He was married to his loving wife Marion for 51 years. Survivors include his wife Marion "Mickey" Lilienthal DeZemo at home; sons Mike DeZemo and John DeZemo and his wife Maureen; six grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Joshua, Becky, Jimmy and Michelle. He was predeceased by daughter-in-law Dawn DeZemo. Visitation will be Sunday, June 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden. Howe, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Friday, June 24, 2005 in the Montgomery Nursing home. She was 82. The daughter of Edward and Margaret Gillespie Ronk, she was born March 5, 1923 in Pine Bush. She was the widow of Davis Howe. Survivors include three sons, Larry Howe and wife Cherie of Coxsackie, N.Y., Greg Howe and wife Karin of Montgomery, Jeff Howe and wife Donna of Walden; one daughter, Karen Osterhout and husband Rick of Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Kathy Howe of Sussex, N.J.; three brothers, Morris Ronk of Poughkeepsie, Joe Ronk of Cornwall and William Ronk of Wisconsin; three sisters, Ethel McLaughlin of Walden, Marietta Triggani of Montgomery and Audrey Bowen of New Paltz; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Justo, Joseph Joseph Justo, of Montgomery, a retired auto mechanic and service station manager for Mobil in New York City and a longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, June 23, 2005 in Goshen. He was 90. The son of Antonio Justo and Carmela Speranza Justo, he was born July 22, 1914 in Bronx, New York. He was the widower of Marie Justo. Survivors include his daughter Diana Stiles of Poughkeepsie; sons Joseph Justo and his wife Janet of West Virginia, Robert Justo and his wife Elida of Dobbs Ferry; daughter Helen Devine and her husband William of Pine Bush; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jane Gorry Nanartowich, age 85, of Highland Falls, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. Born in Highland Falls on November 11, 1919, she was the daughter of Thomas & Mary Gannon Gorry. Jane was an active member of organizations including Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, and the Garden Club among others. Jane was well noted as a local organist for more than 75 years. She was retired from the USMA Finance Department, West Point, N.Y. She was 85 years old. Born on February 17, 1920 in Miami, Arizona, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary Basich. She was married to the late Frank Plantamura. A former model, she was the co-owner of the Dairy Queen in Emerson, N.J. Sergent, Mary Elizabeth Mary Elizabeth Sergent, more often called "Mary Betty," died suddenly in Middletown, N.Y. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 surrounded by longtime friends. She was 86. She was born in the family home, the only and dearly beloved daughter of the late Walter Haynes and Mae Hewke Sergent on March 31, 1919. She was a secretary for 17 years in the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and then for many years in the office of the Middletown Senior High School. In 1950, she acted as the first (temporary) registrar and for six weeks as the only office force of the Orange County Community College. She ran "Old Timer's Day" at the Orange County Fair for 14 years. Mary Betty was also a free-lance writer, whose work was published in such magazines as American Heritage and The Christian Century as well as in newspapers and in book form. During the past few years, she taught the history of the Civil War and of the British Empire through the Senior Encore Program at Orange County Community College. She was a longterm member of the Board of Directors of the Middletown Historical Society. Since 1932, she had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Middletown, where she taught in the Church School and acted as director of the Susan Stewart Hunter and the Joseph C. Robbins Choirs. She was the author of a Junior High School course in Church History which was used for 12 years throughout the American Baptist Convention. She was also a member of the Horton Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by several first cousins, as well as by many friends, including best friends, Catherine and Henry Bast of Wantage, N.J. and goddaughter, Barbara Wald of Middletown and some of whom she liked to call her "adopted children." Verdi, Catherine Catherine Verdi of Newburgh died suddenly on June 21, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 62. She was born on January 19, 1943 in Beacon, N.Y. to the late George and Elizabeth Hunt Smith. Catherine graduated from Beacon High School in 1961 and went on to Dutchess County Community College to earn her RN Degree in 1965. She has worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Francis Hospital, Castle Point Veterans Hospital and most recently at St. Luke's Hospital. On October 28, 1981 she married Daniel Verdi in Newburgh, N.Y. Survivors include her devoted husband, Daniel Verdi of Newburgh; loving brother, Norman Smith of North Carolina; dear sisters, Laurel Wiley of Beacon, and Marion Thomas of Glenon; brother-in-law, Marcos and his wife, Blanca Verdi, of Newburgh; a sister-in-law, Aida and her husband, Lujan Guevara, of Newburgh; her dear god-daughter, Stephanie Marrero; and numerous nieces and nephews.
