Robert A. Carbaugh, Sr., a 45-year area resident, died Wednesday June 22, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. He was 60. Son of the late Cecil Carbaugh and the late Dorothy Sauers Carbaugh, he was born December 1, 1944 in Mount Union, Pa. He is survived by his sons, Robert A. Carbaugh, Jr. of Pine Bush, Daniel Conklin of Milford, Pa., and Christopher Colville of Circleville, N.Y.; one daughter, Bonnie J. Carbaugh of Chester; one sister, Bonnie Cooper of Huntington, Pa.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Carbaugh and Harold Carbaugh; and one sister, Frances O'Dell. There will be no visitation. DeFazio, Dominic Martin Dominic Martin DeFazio, 84, of Marlboro, died Saturday morning, June 25, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus after a short illness. Husband of Julia (Aurigemma) DeFazio, they were married on October 31, 1946 in Italy. Born October 19, 1920 in Monteforte Irpino, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Sofia Aurigemma DeFazio, and son-in-law of the late Vincent and Rose Aurigemma of Marlboro. He was the devoted husband of Julia; loving father of son, Kenneth and Bonnie DeFazio of Naples, Fla.; and daughters, Diane and Dr. Douglas Eglauf of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Ginny and Daniel Mrdjenovic of Highland; and the cherished papa of Shaun, Ryan and Rose Mrdjenovic of Highland. He is also survived by three sisters: Carmella Valentino and Tecla DeSomna of Montreal, Canada, and Antoinette Geraci of Waterbury, Conn. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his brother, Martino DeFazio. A family statement reads: "He was a family oriented many who had a large, giving heart that was centered around his family and friends, and was loved by all." He was a teacher while living in Italy. Dominic was a Lieutenant in the Italian Army during World War II. After the war he moved to Marlboro. He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie for 26 years, retiring in 1986 as Senior Analyst Specialist. He taught Italian in Adult Education at Highland and Marlboro Schools. He enjoyed his garden, doing crossword puzzles, making his wine and listening to classical music. His grandchildren say he was the best bread and pizza maker. We would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Bambino, all the doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Hospital, especially Shanty and Renata. Hasbrouck, son of Marion Hasbrouck of Middletown, N.Y., the late Maurice Horace of Monticello, N.Y., and stepson of Glen Rucker of Middletown, N.Y., entered into rest unexpectedly on June 21, 2005. He was 28. Eric was born June 16, 1977 in Middletown. He attended Middletown High School where he competed as an exceptional athlete in wrestling, football and basketball. He continued his love for sports well past high school, participating in many, as well as being a fan of the Mets and the Rams. He was employed at Ganin Tire in Middletown. Eric was known, among his family and many friends, for his gorgeous hazel eyes, bright infectious smile and sparkling personality. He enjoyed traveling, and with a group of friends, dubbed his family, "The Traveling Crew", and did so all over the country. Well liked by his peers, Eric's mother states, "There are so many I can't list them, but I thank them all for enhancing Eric's life." He was greatly loved by all whose lives he touched and as stated, there were many. Eric was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Arthur J. and Caroline Wisher Hasbrouck; maternal uncle, George Hasbrouck; and paternal grandfather, Samuel Horace. He is survived by his mother and stepfather; his brothers, Michael of Middletown, and 1st Sgt. Herbert Hasbrouck Martin, stationed in Korea; his sister, Heidi Hasbrouck Gilchrist and her husband, James, of Middletown; and his paternal grandmother, Mabel Horace of Monticello. Andrew was a member of First Baptist Church in Newburgh where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of N.A.R.F.E. and A.A.R.P. Sergent, Mary Elizabeth Mary Elizabeth Sergent, more often called "Mary Betty," died suddenly in Middletown, N.Y. on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 surrounded by longtime friends. She was 86. She was born in the family home, the only and dearly beloved daughter of the late Walter Haynes and Mae Hewke Sergent on March 31, 1919. She was a secretary for 17 years in the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and then for many years in the office of the Middletown Senior High School. In 1950, she acted as the first (temporary) registrar and for six weeks as the only office force of the Orange County Community College. She ran "Old Timer's Day" at the Orange County Fair for 14 years. Mary Betty was also a free-lance writer, whose work was published in such magazines as American Heritage and The Christian Century as well as in newspapers and in book form. During the past few years, she taught the history of the Civil War and of the British Empire through the Senior Encore Program at Orange County Community College. She was a longterm member of the Board of Directors of the Middletown Historical Society. Since 1932, she had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Middletown, where she taught in the Church School and acted as director of the Susan Stewart Hunter and the Joseph C. Robbins Choirs. She was the author of a Junior High School course in Church History which was used for 12 years throughout the American Baptist Convention. She was also a member of the Horton Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by several first cousins, as well as by many friends, including best friends, Catherine and Henry Bast of Wantage, N.J. and goddaughter, Barbara Wald of Middletown and some of whom she liked to call her "adopted children." Wiley, Brian Scott Brian Scott Wiley may not have been the most social butterfly, but was undisputably full of character and charisma. His personality touched everyone he met in one way or another. The good memories far surpassed the ones of lesser greatness. At 22 years old, Brian's unending struggle with cystic fibrosis, along with infections finally came to a peaceful end. Stubborn until the very end, Brian brought new meaning to the word "strong". He will never suffer again and home, the only place he wanted to be, is where he will finally rest in peace. His memory and good heart will never fade. Thank you to all the people that have helped to keep him around this long. Wolff of Middletown, a family therapist and registered nurse, and 33-year resident, died at home with her family by her side, Friday June 24, 2005 at the age of 57. The daughter of the late Irving and Millie Plumser, she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 6, 1948. Linda is survived by George R. Gunther, with whom she shared her life; her sons, Michael Wolff, Esq. and his wife, Melissa, of Middletown; Russell Wolff, MA, Psy.S., Doctoral Candidate and his wife, Cara, of Bellerose, N.Y.; grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua Wolff; sister, Francine Ducker and the late Dr. Marvin Ducker, of Middletown; niece, Allison Ducker, and nephew, Evan Ducker of Middletown; cousin, Les Melzak of New Jersey, and many devoted and loving friends. Linda was a Certified Clinical Specialist for children and adolescents and had her own private practice as a family therapist in Goshen and White Plains, N.Y. She was an Adjunct Professor at Pace University's Pleasantville campus; was a Clinical Trainer, Family Therapist, and Director of Nursing at Children's Village, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Linda also spent a year working for the Canterbury District Health Board in Christchurch, New Zealand as a Clinical Trainer and Family Therapist. Linda served as a Nursing Care Coordinator at the F.D.R. Veterans Administration Hospital, Montrose, N.Y. where she was responsible for clinical and administrative care of a 39-bed Acute Psychiatric Unit. Other positions that Linda held were Director of Intermediate Care Facility for the Orange County Association of Retarded Citizens, Newburgh, N.Y.; Psychiatric Staff Nurse, Adolescent Unit, Craig House Hospital, Beacon, N.Y.; Director of Adult Daycare Program, Park Manor, Middletown; Supervising Nurse Group Homes, Pius XII Youth and Family Service, Middletown; Psychiatric Nurse, Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen; and Pediatric Nurse, Flushing Hospital, Flushing, N.Y. Linda was also a member of the Nurses Honor Society Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, American Psychiatric Nurse Association, Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses, and The Association for Play Therapy. Linda was one of the most remarkable people you could ever meet. She was a devoted mother, always putting her children first; and an adoring grandmother who made sure that Sarah and Joshua always had fun when they were with her. Linda was the best sister anyone could have, always there as a protector and advisor. She was also a wonderful daughter. Linda's friends were as dedicated to her as she was to them. You have to be a real friend to have friends and they were there for each other through thick and thin. Born in Middletown, N.Y., Mr. Worden lived in Thomaston, Conn. before moving to Branchville 42 years ago. Mr. Worden was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from ACUNY with a BS degree; accounting major with a minor in finance; and has spent over 40 years in the financial/fiduciary industry. He was a guest lecturer at Sam Silberman School of Business Administration, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, N.J. on income taxation of estates and trusts. Mr. Worden served as president of the Sussex County, N.J. Banker's Association; was a member of Branchville Businessmen's Association; was president and member of Board of Directors, N.W., N.J. Estate Planning Council, which consisted of 200 members in law, accounting, insurance, bank trust officers, investments, financial and estate planning; was on the Education and Marketing Committee for New Jersey Banker's Association; and gave many lectures to New Jersey Bankers over the years. He was also a guest lecturer for the New Jersey Department of Agriculture; was a senior trust officer to several major banks in New Jersey for many years; was the personal financial manager for Carl "Doc" Severinsen, Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" for 22 years; was a member of the Board of Directors/Financial Consultant for "Dance Party U.S.A.", USA Television Network for 12 years; and was a contributing writer to the National Association of Certified Financial Planners Workbook. Mr. Worden left banking in 1991 but started consulting business again with Bank Director, Financial Network Investment Corp.; was very active in senior citizen area of Toms River, N.J., consisting of 21,000 residents; and was consulting as an advisor for large service provider, Somebody C.A.R.E.S., for the 7 Crestwood Villages in the surrounding area occupied by these senior citizens. The son of the late Elwood and Edna Day Worden, Mr. Worden is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma; one daughter, Pamela Roth and her husband, Russell, of Naples, Fla.
