She was the daughter of the late Harry K. Freeman and Florence A. Stevenson, born April 30, 1942 in Pawling, NY. She was 63. Barbara was a past employee at Castle Point VA and I.B.M. in East Fishkill. She was a member of Beulah Baptist in Beacon, N.Y. She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph T. Dixon; and also a loving son, James W. Hudson; two step-daughters and two step-sons; seven brothers: Harry, Leroy, Robert, Larry, Richard, Donald, and Allen Freeman; and three sisters: Emma Freeman-Ennist, Florence Freeman-Humes, and Shirley Freeman-Woods. Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Freeman and sister, Ida Freeman-Toles. Visitation will be Friday, July 1, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon with a service at 12:00 noon at the David T. Goldstein, Esther (Elkin/Elkanovich) Esther (Elkin/Elkanovich) Goldstein, a homemaker and resident of Ellenville for more than 60 years; beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Monday June 27, 2005 at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine, N.Y. She was 92. Born in Odessa, Russia on February 15, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Sarah and the late Abraham Elkanovich. She was the widow of Meyer "Mickey" Goldstein, a noted hotel steward in the Ellenville area's portion of the Borscht Belt. He predeceased her on September 20, 1985. Esther is survived by three daughters: Karen Blocker and her husband, Alan, of Lake Katrine, Edith Meyers and her husband, Leslie, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Arlene Bank and her husband, Bruce, of Monticello. She is further survived by six grandchildren: Wendy (Blocker) Schwalb and husband, Richard, of Jeffersonville; Seth Blocker and wife, Linda, of Delhi; Paul Meyers and wife, Alison, of Chicago, Ill.; Stephanie Meyers and fianc‚, Brett Boyer, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Stacy Bank and fianc‚, Phillip Jackson, of Monticello; and Lisa Bank, of Monticello; five great-grandchildren: Alex and Jessica Schwalb, of Jeffersonville; Rachel and Benjamin Blocker, of Delhi, and Lilah Meyers, of Chicago, Ill.; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many special friends. "Esn un bentshn un zie a mentsh." "Eat and pray and be a good person," were Esther Goldstein's watchwords. She always had a ready hand and ready words to help her family and all of her many adoring neighbors and friends throughout her 92 years. Having come from Russia with only her elder sister by her side during that journey, she joined other family members once she arrived in America. Esther made a happy life for her husband, her own mother and her children. She lived modestly and sincerely. Esther was deeply loved and will be terribly missed. Funeral services will be conducted by Rabbi Moshe Frank and held at Congregation Ezrath Israel, 34-1/2 Center Street, Ellenville, NY at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2005. He was 54. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and a past member of the Claryville Fire Department. Jake leaves behind his wife Marge of 33 years, at home; one son, Keith Gorton and his wife, Geri; his mother, Thelma Gorton; two grandchildren, Hailey and Brant Gorton all of Grahamsville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jake was predeceased by his father, Andrew Gorton; two sisters, Sue Julkerski and Gail Gorton, and one brother, Andrew "Skip" Gorton. Albert D. Griffin, Sr., a 55-year resident of Newburgh, N.Y., died Friday, June 24, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. He was 64. Albert was born on January 6, 1941, in Columbia, S.C., the son of David A. Brown and Pearl G. Sutton. Albert worked in various departments of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He was a member of the Baptist Temple Church. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Darlene Griffin at home; loving parents, his mother, Pearl G. Sutton of Newburgh, and father, David A. Brown of Montclair, N.J.; five sons, Braynard R. Griffin and wife Lisa, Kenneth Verlon Griffin and fianc‚e Latoya Johnson, Kefee D. Griffin and fianc‚e Melinda Williams, all of Newburgh, Albert Lorelle Griffin of New Windsor, and Darryl S. Griffin and wife Theresa of Essex, Md.; one daughter, Cheri S. Hill, Steven Thomas Steven Thomas Hill, a retired New York State Correction Officer for Sullivan Correctional Facility and resident of the area most of his life, died suddenly on June 27, 2005 at his home in Neversink. He was 58. The son of Douglas Steven Hill and Frances Weigand Hill, he was born May 27, 1947 in Liberty. Steve was well-known throughout the area for his service to the community. He served as past New York State Fire Warden; 35-year member, past Chief, past President, and past treasurer of the Neversink Fire Department; past member and past president of the Sullivan County Fire Chiefs Association; and past member of the Grahamsville Fire Department and a member of the Liberty Elks. He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Woodbourne where he formerly served as a Eucharistic Minister, Parish Councilman, and Parish Trustee. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Steve was a member of the Hemlock Hollow Hunting Club in Forestburgh. A Vietnam veteran, he proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force in the South Pacific. Steve is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Hill and his sister-in-law, Shirley Dean Poley. Surviving to cherish and honor his memory is his devoted wife of 37 years, Carolyn Dean Hill; two loving daughters, Stephanie Moraine and husband Robert of Pickerington, Ohio, and Pamela DeMarmels and husband John of Parksville; 6 beloved grandchildren, Daniel, Ashley, Joshua, Mikayla, Sarah, and Aaron; his loving mother, Frances Hill, and sister Donna Conklin and husband Steven all of Grahamsville; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Louise and Archie Dean of Neversink; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Barbara Dean, Bonnie and Glen VanDenberg, Tom and Marlene Poley. Komar of New Windsor, passed away Monday June 27, 2005. She was 72. Daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kochera Komar, she was born December 21, 1932 in New Windsor, N.Y. Caroline was a retired typist at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She was also a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. Survivors include her brother, Frank Komar of New Windsor; her sister, Margaret Komar of New Windsor; and several nieces and nephews. Plaskon, Tillie (Venko) Formerly of Montgomery, N.Y. Tillie (nee Venko) Plaskon, of Bayonne, N.J., died Sunday June 26, 2005 in Sun City Center, Fla. She was 98. Born in Patrova, Czechoslovakia, she lived in Bayonne, N.J. for most of her life before moving to Montgomery for 11 years, and then retiring to Florida in 1998. A homemaker, she is survived by three daughters: Edna Laskow, Barbara Kately, and Mary Ann Romano and her husband, Guido; a son, Joseph Plaskon and his wife, Marie; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Whitmarsh Jr., John Henry Formerly of Walden, N.Y. John Henry Whitmarsh, Jr., a 30-year resident of Hyde Park and retired tool and dye maker for Standard Gage in Poughkeepsie for 35 years, died Monday June 27, 2005 in Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y. He was 85. He has now joined his wife, and will be missed by family and friends. Son of John H. Whitmarsh, Sr. and Emelia Dinges, he was born May 8, 1920 in Newburgh, N.Y. He married Gloria Jean Whitmarsh on January 16, 1972 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She predeceased him on October 31, 2004. Retiring from Standard Gage in 1985, he previously served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal and Philippines Liberation Ribbon. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1949. He was an avid bowler. He was one of four children, and is survived by two sons, Brian E. Whitmarsh and his wife, Alysia, of Saugerties, and their son, Aidan; and John H. Whitmarsh III of Connecticut, and his children, John H. IV and Jennifer. There will be no calling hours.
