She was 90 years old. The daughter of the late Francisco and Graciela Zavala Adorno, she was born on July 4, 1914 in Caquas, Puerto Rico. Laura was the widow of John Burgos who died September 2, 1964. A family statement reads: "She lived her life for her children and grandchildren." She is survived by one son, John Burgos and his wife, Sonia of Marston Mills, MA; two daughters, Gloria Vasquez and her husband, Joseph and Joan Claudio and her husband, Joseph A., both of Bullville; seven grandchildren Joseph Claudio Jr., J. Peter Claudio, Joseph Vasquez Jr., Laura Morales, Robert Vasquez, Jensina Bearse, and Julian Burgos, eight great-grandchildren, Amaris, Demetris, and Allison Vasquez, Gabrielle Morales, Jennifer Vasquez, and Alexander, Jonathan, and Sierra Grace Claudio; one great-great- granddaughter, Yamila Vasquez; as well as several nieces and nephews. Elsie Canter, a retired Fallsburg Central School teacher, a longtime Woodridge resident died on Monday, February 28, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 91. Elsie was born on October 17, 1913 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Julius and Fannie Raymond Yellin. She was the widow of Herman Canter who died in 1992. Elsie was a longtime member of Cong. Ohave Sholom the Woodridge Synagogue. She was 94. The daughter of the late Myron and Catherine Liebult Butler, she was born January 24, 1911 in Shandlee, N.Y. Inez was a member of the Roscoe Presbyterian Church since 1947 and a member of the Roscoe-Rockland Senior Citizens for many years. A family statement reads, "Inez enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family." Cheryl was born in Goshen, NY on September 2, 1960, she was 44. The daughter of Richard Lewis and Elizabeth Shuster Lewis of Goshen, N.Y. On May 18, 1980 Cherie married Martin A. Gopel; they have been happily married for 25 years. Cherie is also survived by two sons, and their fianc‚es: Keith R. Gopel and Amy Winston of Middletown and Brian Gopel and Renee Butts and Cherie's only grandchild, Hailly Alexcis Gopel of Masonville, N.Y. He was 77. The son of the late Joseph A. Hawthorne and Charlotte Stayskell Hawthorne, he was born June 1, 1927 in New York, N.Y. Gerry was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. A former Commander of Woodbury American Legion #779, he was also a former Republican Party Chairman of the Town of Woodbury. Gerry served on the Town of Woodbury ZBA for many years, was a former member of the Monroe-Woodbury Rotary Club, and served on the board of the McQuade Foundation in Vails Gate, N.Y. He was also the former advisor to the Junior Membership of the Woodbury Field and Stream Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Brady Hawthorne, at home; three sons: Geoffrey F. Hawthorne and his wife, Jeanne, of Monroe, Brian J. Scott, of Walden, a Corrections Officer for Downstate Correctional Facility, Fishkill and a lifetime resident of the area, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 in Dutchess County. He was 46. The son of David and Louise Doolittle Scott, he was born September 16, 1958 in Newburgh. He attended First Reformed Church of Walden, was an avid hunter, loved sports especially baseball & softball and had a great love for the woods. He was a loving father and great uncle. Survivors include his daughter Kristen M. Scott of Walden; son Alex J. Scott of Ellenville; parents David and Louise Doolittle Scott of Walden; sister Elaine Schisano & husband Robert of Walden; 2 nieces; 1 nephew; aunts; an uncle; and cousins. Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2005 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden. Funeral services will be Friday, March 4, 2005, 11 a.m. at First Reformed Church of Walden, Scofield St., Walden. The Reverend Paul Benes will officiate. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden. The son of Samuel Elizabeth Lendick Vanderwiele, he was born November 27, 1951 in Passaic, NJ. Survivors include his wife, Susan Wayne Vanderwiele at home, formerly married to MaryAnn "Pudge" Thiele; two daughters: Tisha McCarthy and husband Frank of Port Jervis, NY and Wendy Sue Vanderwiele of Westchester, NY; one son, Johnny Cash Vanderwiele of Port Jervis; one step-son, Daniel Gorsky; one step-daughter, Jennifer Sue Gorsky; two brothers: Samuel Vanderwiele of Sussex, NJ; Richard Vanderwiele of Wantage, NJ; two grandsons: Brett Michael McCarthy, Timothy McCarthy and several nieces and nephews.
