Bennett of Ellenville, died Tuesday March 1, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. He was 83. The son of the late Palmer W. and Freda Berntz Bennett, he was born August 30, 1921 in Catskill, N.Y. Frank was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he received the American Service Medal, the EAME Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was also a member of VFW Post 8959, and a past president of Scorsby. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, at home, whom he married on June 14, 1943; three children: Terry Bennett and his wife, MaryAnn, of Bloomingburg, Scott Bennett of Ellenville, and Kevin Bennett and his wife, Pat, of Ulster Heights; seven grandchildren: Nisa, Cory, Joseph, Christian, Brice, Jeremy and Amy Bennett; his devoted sister-in-law, Elizabeth Brunk, and her children; and several nieces and nephews. She was 70. Nell was a member of Bethany Christian Church. She loved to garden, cook, watch her hummingbirds and she loved people. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack French and her sisters, Polly Raynor, Helen Edwards and Mary Branch. He was 90 years old. The son of the late Ellsworth and Florence Tarant Clark, he was born on June 31, 1914 in Brooklyn. A World War II Veteran, Kenneth proudly served his country in the US Army. Ken was an avid fan of baseball; he was an umpire for the Otisville Little League for 30 years. He also was a 40-year member of Holy Name Of Jesus Church in Otisville. A family statement reads, "Kenneth was a gentle person and loved by everyone. He was a true family man, gentle giant, and a baseball enthusiast." Daughter of the late Henry and Myra Hollister Bennett, Alice was born August 12, 1908 in Wilkes Barre, Pa. She was married to the late Carl Theodore Johnson, who predeceased her in 1967. Alice was a long time resident of Wilkes Barre, Pa. before moving to Newburgh in 1998 to be near her daughter Barbara. She was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wilkes Barre for 96 years; was a member of Irem Temple Women's Auxiliary in Wilkes Barre, and was an avid Bingo and Pokeno player. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Betrix, of Town of Newburgh; her sister, Helen Derr of Bonita Springs, FL; granddaughter, Karen Chavez and her husband Jose of Tarpon Springs, FL; grandson, Scott Lindner and his wife Betty of Brewster; three great-grandchildren, Marc and Alexis Chavez and Katie Lindner; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kahn was born October 27, 1913 in Forestport, N.Y., a daughter of the late August and Edna Farley Kohler. She attended St. Brigid's Church in Bergen. Mrs. Kahn enjoyed spending time with her family and was active with them. Also, she was very active with the Bergen Meadows and enjoyed playing cards. A native of Parsons, Kan., she was a daughter of the late Homer Benjamin and Sarah Patten Nutt. In 1930, she moved to Scotchtown, N.Y., where she worked on the family farm, and during her youth, she was well known as a teacher of penmanship to students of all grades. From 1938 to 1953 she owned Tressa's Beauty Shop on the corner of East Main and Orchard Streets in Middletown, N.Y. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur E. Olson, who was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who was killed in Europe during World War II. She was the wife of Alphonso Kanan for 49 years before his death in 1999. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Branson and Jean Stevens. A loving mother, grandmother and aunt, she will be missed by her family and friends. MacLeay, William Kenneth William Kenneth MacLeay (known by family and friends as Ken), died at home with his loving family around him on March 3, 2005 after a long illness. Born on September 25, 1931 in Stony Point, N.Y., he was second oldest of four children. A graduate of Orange County Community College, he served in the US Army during the Korean War, and received the National Defense Service Medal. On February 15, 1958, he was married to Jane Pietrovito in Goshen, N.Y. at St. John the Evangelist. Ken and Jane then moved to Pawling, N.Y. where they started a family. Ken spent the next 47 years working in the dairy nutrition industry; 25 years with Agway as area salesman and in 1976 he became a partner in Maxon Mills. During his life in Pawling, he was an enthusiastic member of the community, a past president of the Pawling Lions Club, past president of Edward R. Murrow Park Association and served as an usher at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Known as a generous spirit and a silent benefactor, he enjoyed traveling and cherished the beauty of the countryside. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather, whose grandchildren meant the world to him, and a dear and loyal friend to many. Although he will be deeply missed, those that knew him will be comforted by the memory of his wonderful life and deep faith.
