She was a member of Women's Council of Realtors Association. Post #8612, Milford, Pa., Tilgman, Angle, Smith American Legion Post #851, Dingman's Ferry, Pa., and past commander of the Col. John Slattery American Legion Post #1099, New York, N.Y. The son of the late John and Catherine (Keller) Bannon, he was born on September 10, 1924 in North Bellmore, N.Y. He was married to Vera DeSilva Bannon on August 25, 1945 in Hempstead, N.Y. Born September 28, 1931 in New Rochelle to Luigi and Luigia Amorosa Valenti. Survived by her beloved husband, Pasquale J. DelTorto, whom she married on July 29, 1951. They resided in New Rochelle until retiring to their country home in Burlingham in 1990. Also survived by her sister, Mary Eisner and brothers John and Marcello Valenti. Hince of Pearl River, NY, a retired social worker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died February 28, 2005 at Columbia University Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was 69. The daughter of Colonel Percy and Molly LeStourgeon, she was born in Lexington, KY on June 25, 1935. Cecelia graduated from George Washington University in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology. She married Joseph F. Hince on August 24, 1957, and they enjoyed a lifelong, loving relationship; they met at GWU and were homecoming Queen and King their senior year. Celia worked as a dedicated social services case worker based in Pomona, NY for more than twenty year, retiring in 1992. Cecelia was an active citizen, prolific reader and faithful supporter of the arts. She loved impressionist paintings, classical music and ballet. Celia predeceased her husband Joe by thee days. Hince of Pearl River, NY, a retired teacher and coach, devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, died March 3, 2005 at home. He was 75. The son of Charles and Blanche Hince, he was born in New Kensington, PA on March 10, 1929. Joe was a talented center and middle linebacker for George Washington University from 1953 to 1957. GWU was ranked 17th nationally his senior year. In the 1957 Sun Bowl, his game-changing plays on defense helped GWU shut out favored Texas Western 13-0, a team led by future NFL hall-of-famer and New York Jets' great Don Maynard. Joe married his lifelong soul mate, Cecelia LeStourgeon of Media, PA on August 24, 1957. They met at GWU and were homecoming King and Queen their senior year. Joe graduated GWU with a bachelors degree in physical educating in 1957. Joe taught physical education, health and driver's education at Tappan Zee High School from 1961 to 1991 and was the Head Coach of the TZHS varsity football team from 1961 to 1979. He lead TZHS to Rockland County football championships in 1961, 1964 and 1966. Joe was the Director of the Town of Orangetown's youth-recreation department from 1977 to 1991. Joe was a "Blue and Gold" officer for former Congressman Ben Gilman, and helped recruit and interview candidates for the U.S. Naval Academy. Joe and his family enjoyed camping and vacationing together. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and entertaining his grandchildren. He and his wife, Celia, had many local friends and they regularly enjoyed their company. She was 80. The daughter of the late John and Laura Life Maddox, she was born on September 11, 1924 in Buffalo, New York. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ellenville. Esther moved to New York from Savannah, GA, when she was 14. She attended Ellenville High School and later moved to Bronx, New York. Esther held many jobs, before she became a Social Worker at the New York City Department of Social Services. Survivors include one brother, John D. Maddox of Georgia; four sisters: Hazel B. Maddox of Ellenville, Hilda S. Maddox of Washingtonville, Deborah L. Lawson of White Plains, Dora M. James of New Jersey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The son of the late Carl and Loie Ferguson Meyer, he was born July 10, 1923 in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was married 55 years to the late Dorothy Kutcher Meyer who passed away on February 13, 2005. Bruce was a member of Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church, Lake Huntington, N.Y. He was a 50-year plus member of the Lake Huntington Fire Company. He was a member of the Red Fox Hunting Club, New York State Beer Wholesaler Association and he was a Board of Director for the United National Bank. A family statement reads, "Bruce was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was well-liked by everyone. He was devoted to his family and his business." Pucci, Rita Rita Pucci, of Florida, N.Y., a retired corporate executive secretary, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2005. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Rita was the daughter of the late Carmine and Mary Ciranni Pucci. She is survived by her two sisters, Irene Maresco of Florida, N.Y., Theresa Paras of Louisville, Ky.; and three brothers Neal, Carmine and Charles Pucci all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Josephine Paradiso and her brother Pacifico Pucci. Rita was a loving sister and aunt, who was cherished by all who knew her. Shapiro, Rose Rose Shapiro, a lifetime area resident and the retired owner and operator of the Mercury Cleaners in Monticello, died peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty, NY. She was 97. Rose was born in Kiamesha Lake on October 18, 1907 the daughter of Harry and Anne Wechsler. She was one of six siblings who attended the one room schoolhouse in Kiamesha, and went on to graduate from Monticello High School in 1925. Rose grew up amid the fledgling Catskill resort industry and helped her family build a small farm into a boarding house, which later became one of two family-owned hotels. In 1941, Rose married Louis Shapiro and the couple relocated to Buffalo, where Rose worked for the Army Air Corp. After the war, the couple returned to Monticello where they owned and operated the Mercury Dry Cleaners on Prince Street. Rose later worker for Klein's until her retirement in 1981. Rose, or "Miz Shapiro" as many called her, pursued an active role in the community through her membership in local chapters of B'nai Brith, Hadassah and the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Sisterhood as well as by volunteering as an inspector for many local elections. She is survived by her two sons; David Shapiro and his fianc‚e Melissa Rennie of Monticello, and Harvey Shapiro and his longtime companion Linda of Staatsburg, her sister; Stella Winawer, and her three grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Louis, her brother George and sisters Ethel Grogan, Tressa Goddess and Sarah Griff. Weissburg, a retired self-employed accountant, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Saturday March 5, 2005, at Woodcliff Manor Care Center, Woodcliff Lake, N.J. He was 87. The son of the late Andrew Weissburg and Evelyn Schaufsky Weissburg, he was born November 1, 1917 in Chicago, Ill. A family statement reads: "After a successful career as an accountant in Chicago, Dad enjoyed a lengthy retirement in Port Charlotte, Fla. from 1978-2004, where he owned his own accounting firm and was on the Board of the Italian American Club. Being a Chicagoan at heart, he was a die-hard Cubs fan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Frances T. Mangano Weissburg, at home; two sons, Mr. Phillip Weissburg of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Mr. Robert R. Weissburg and his wife, Theresa, of Highland Mills, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Paul and Lisa. There will be no visitation and funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, N.Y. Inurnment of the cremains will be at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, Ill., and will be private and at the convenience of the family.
