He was 70. The son of Edwin H. and Ruby C. Crotty Bell, he was born December 5, 1934 in Pine Bush, N.Y. He was the widower of Helen Hadden Bell. Paul was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. Survivors include his children: Linda Redner of Mt. Hope, Paul Bell, Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline, of Pine Bush, Bruce Bell, Sr. and his wife, Pamela, of Middletown, Ruby Rutherford of Middletown, Steven Bell, Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Middletown, Pattyanne Croci and her husband, John, Sr., of Middletown, and Gary A. Bell and his companion, Tracey Hunt, of Middletown. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Borland, a retired teacher at Walden Elementary School and lifelong area resident, died Saturday March 12, 2005 at Montgomery Nursing Home. She was 84 years old. The daughter of Arthur and Helen VanVoorhis Tuthill, she was born April 24, 1920 in Goshen, N.Y. Doris was a member of the First Reformed Church of Walden; past president of the Walden Women's Club; member of the Walden Historical Society; and the Walden Sunshine Society. She was the widow of the late Wilfred B. Borland and John J. Feyko. Surviving her are one son, John W. Donaldson, Thomas James Thomas James Donaldson, a truck driver for a vending company, died Sunday March 13, 2005. He was 22. The son of John E. and Nancy M. Donaldson, he was born September 22, 1982 in Nyack, N.Y. Thomas was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, who served in the Iraqi War and reached the rank of Sergeant. He belonged to the VFW Post in Washingtonville and was a Washingtonville High School graduate - Class of 2000. Thomas was a loving son and brother. He is survived by his parents, John and Nancy Donaldson of Washingtonville; his brother and sister, Matthew and Christina Donaldson, both of Washingtonville; his paternal grandfather, John E. Isaac (Jalap) Gelman, a longtime resident of Monticello and a retired photo machine repairman for Simon Corp., died Saturday March 12, 2005, at the Aventura Hospital, Hospice Unit, Aventura, Fla. He was 95. Jalap was born in New York, N.Y. on August 30, 1909, the son of Morris and Jenny Meadonick Gelman. He was a longtime member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello. Mary Margaret (O'Conner) Hulse passed away March 12, 2005, at home in North Carolina after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 88 years old. A longtime resident of Newburgh, she was a retired elevator operator with St. Luke's Hospital. Born February 1, 1917, Mary was the daughter of the late James O'Conner and Della (Corliss) O'Conner. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Hulse, Sr., of Newburgh; a sister, Trudy Brown; a daughter, Maureen Sears; and a stepson, Lewis Hulse. Christian Emmett "Chic" Jahrling of New Columbia, Pa., formerly of Middletown, died Saturday March 12, 2005 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He was 80. The son of the late Charles Wilhelm and Caroline Kikillus Jahrling, he was born August 17, 1924 in Union Hill, N.J. A veteran, Mr. Jahrling served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Jahrling was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Watsontown, Pa. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doris Nowak Jahrling, at home; his children: Susan E. The daughter of Max Thalheimer and Dora Ebstein Thalheimer, she was born May 15, 1924 in Stuttgart, Germany. She was the widow of Manfred Joseph, with whom she helped operate a dairy farm in Bullville, N.Y. for 40 years. Karoline was a member of Temple Sinai in Middletown; was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Sinai and of Hadassah. She is survived by two sons, Mark S. Charles R. Letts Sr., a resident of the area since 1963, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill, Goshen, NY. He was 79. The son of Charles Hanes Letts and Lucille Mae Mandiville, he was born on March 2, 1926 in Patterson, N.J. Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. A police officer in West Patterson, he drove a bus for a long time for Public Service, Red & Tan, Shortline and Warwick Transit. He was a boy scout leader for many years. A security guard for Hudson Valley Patrol until he happily retired in 1993. He loved all sports. He was a diehard fan of the Yankees and Giants. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and pop-pop. He was loved by all and will be missed dearly. He is survived by four sons: Charles R. Letts Jr. and his wife Beth of Randsomville, NY, Kenneth Letts of Goshen, Robert Letts and his wife Sonja of Milford, PA, Richard Letts and his wife, Patty of New Windsor, NY; one daughter, Diana Romer and her husband Harry of Goshen, two brothers: Edward Letts of Effort, PA and Ronald Letts of Goshen, eighteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. McGorman, Bernard "Barney" Bernard "Barney" McGorman, a 55 year resident of Cornwall-On-Hudson, died Saturday March 12, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh Campus. He was 91. The son of the late Patrick and Ann Cleary McGorman, he was born January 29, 1914 in Rockcorry, County Monaghan, Ireland, and was the husband of the late Alice Mary McCue McGorman, whom he married in 1949 at Good Shepherd Church in New York City. He moved to Cornwall-On-Hudson in 1950 and worked for many years as a carpenter. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters of America; the Knights of Columbus; the Clan MacLeod Pipe & Drum Band; the Monaghan Society of New York City; the Friendly Sons & Daughters of St. Patrick; the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division #2 in Cornwall; and was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church. Barney will be remembered for his fine dancing abilities and great Irish wit. He always had a smile and a good story to share with friends. He loved life and his family and he truly enjoyed music and his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Stroebele, Theodore "Ted" Theodore "Ted" Stroebele of Monticello, passed away at home on Saturday March 12, 2005. He was 96. Mr. Stroebele was a 74 year resident of Monticello. He was born in Hoboken, N.J. on January 15,1909 to the late John and Linda Fritchie Stroebele. He was the widower of Elizabeth Manns Stroebele, who predeceased him on August 11,1990. He was very dedicated to Elizabeth and cared for her for 45 years as she suffered from Parkinson's Disease. Ted retired from the Village of Monticello Highway Department in 1976, having served as Superintendent for many years. He served as Elder and Trustee at the First Church of Monticello-Presbyterian, where he was instrumental in getting a lift for disabled persons installed and in having the church name installed on the church. He was active in the community as past president of the Monticello Seniors, Inc., and was one of three persons to get them incorporated. He was a former Sullivan County Senior of the Year, and delivered Meals on Wheels to many homebound persons, and received a 25 year Service Pin from Sullivan County Office of the Aging. He was a charter member of the Board for Senior Games, held each year for Sullivan County Residents. Recently, the Monticello Village Board voted unanimously to change the name of the neighborhood facility to the Theodore Stroebele Neighborhood Facility. He recently received an award for 55 years of active membership in the Monticello Lodge #532 Free and Accepted Masons. "Ted was a great story teller and everyone who knew him enjoyed his stories of past experiences, and all will miss him." He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Edna Stroebele of Albany; his dear and loving companion, Lillian Goldberg; and dear friends, Eleanor and Albert Kannert and Hannah Bernstein. He was predeceased by his sisters, Linda, Florence and Josie, and one brother, John. Published in the Times Herald-Record on 3/14/2005. Warren, Margaret McCarrell Margaret McCarrell Warren, a 53 year resident of Sundown, died March 10, 2005, at her home. She was 87. The third child of William A. and Marie Bonebrake McCarrell, she was born October 11, 1917 in Carlisle, Pa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerome C. Tulloch, who died in 1943 serving with the Sea Bees in the South Pacific; and by her second husband, Clifford L. Warren, also a veteran, who died at their home in Sundown in 1985. She was also predeceased by her older two sisters, Mary McCarrell Johnson in 1991 and Elizabeth McCarrell Teimpidis in 1994. Margaret studied zoology at Ohio University and during World War II worked in the Signal Corps, the only woman installing electronics in tanks at Willow Run in Detroit. She then worked as a legal secretary in a law firm in Detroit. In 1946, she traveled west in the company of her collie, Lassie, in a Crosley station wagon and eventually settled in Taos, N.M., where she met her husband, Cliff. In 1949, they moved to Levittown, Long Island and in 1953, moved to the 70 acre farmstead on Yeagerville Road. As a passionate conservationist, Margaret was active in forestry and conservation issues in the Catskill region. She was a founding member of the Region 3 Forest Practice Board and served as Chair, the only female to do so. She was actively involved in State Forest Practice Board meetings, often the only female in attendance. She was a member of the Rondout-Esopus Land Conservancy, the Watershed Forestry Task Force, and the Catskill Forest Association. She served on teh Town of Denning Board for several years. She was a devoted animal lover all her life; and with her husband, Cliff, operated their kennel, mainly raising AKC Bassett Hounds. In later years, Margaret was active in the Greyhound Rescue Organization and adopted "Alvin", her companion for many years. She was also a supporter of the Frost Valley YMCA and has sent two of her great-grandnieces there to summer camp for several summers. Margaret earned her Master's degree in Sociology at SUNY New Paltz and worked with prisoners and at-risk youth for many years, and was a treatment team leader for the New York State Department of Hygiene. Survivors include her niece, Barbara and her husband, Edward J. Collins, of Leland, Mich.; three nephews: Ronald McCarrell Johnson and his wife, Dorothy, of Taylor, Mich., James McCarrell Keen and his wife, Jane, of Leland, Mich., and Thomas R. Keen and his wife, Barbara, of Maple City, Mich. Margaret is also survived by six grandnephews, one grandniece and 11 great-grandnieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Sundown, N.Y. on Memorial Day weekend. Burial will be next to her husband in the Furman Cemetery on Yeagerville Road.
