"Jerry" Jerome S. "Jerry" Affron, a longtime resident of Newburgh, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at home, after a brief illness. He was 85. He was born on September 28, 1919 in Kingston, N.Y., the son of Samuel and Edna Silverstein Affron. Jerry graduated from Beacon High School as valedictorian with the class of 1936. He then went on to study at Cornell University and graduated in 1940 and Cornell Law School in 1942, Phi Beta Kappa. While in law school, he wrote for the Cornell Law Review. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three and a half years. In 1946, he founded Affron Fuel Oil, Inc. and expanded the business to include Affron Tank Terminals in 1954. Jerry was an avid tennis player and golfer, twice winning the City of Newburgh Tennis title, and competed on the Cornell Tennis Team. His achievements in golf included winning the Otterkill Country Club championship 10 times and the Newburgh Country Club championship twice. He served on the Board of Trustees of the St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital for 25 years, and served as President of St. Luke's Hospital from 1970-1972. He was also a member of the Mt. Saint Mary Board of Trustees and a board member of Cedar Hill Cemetery. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Newburgh, Newburgh Elks, Temple Beth Jacob and the Powelton Club. He was on the Board of Directors of the Newburgh Savings Bank and was a founding member of the Otterkill Country Club. Jerry's commitment to the community was recognized in 1992 when he received the Man of the Year Award from the Hudson Valley Oil Heat Council. In 1994, he received the Tri-County American Award, sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League. He was honored by St. Luke's Hospital in 1995 for his dedication and support of the hospital and the community. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Affron; his daughter, Maybelle Rowntree and her husband Mark of Brookline, MA; his son Stephen Affron and his wife Wendy of Newburgh; his daughter Cynthia Affron of Hampden, MA; his stepsons Mark Leo and his wife Debra of Merrimack, NH, Todd Leo and his wife Monica of Merrimack, NH; his grandchildren, Amelia and Julian Rowntree, Joshua, Corey and Samuel Affron, Samantha and Isabelle Leo, and Cameron and Brianna Leo. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 at Temple Beth Jacob, 344 Gidney Ave., Newburgh with burial to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Leona Wright Canouse, 95, of Orlando, FLa.,, formerly a longtime Milford, Pa. resident, died on Thursday, March 10, 2005 in Orlando, Fla. She graduated from Berwick, PA high School in 1929 and was a charter member and Worthy Matron of Milford Chapter #404 OES. The daughter of the late John F. and Alma Ursula (Pettit) Wright, she was born on January 9, 1910 in Berwick, Pa. She married Clyde M. Canouse on April 2, 1930. Mr. Canouse predeceased her on April 15, 1966. Leona had lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Orlando, Fla. for the last five years. Survivors include her son, Dr. Keith L. Canouse and his wife Janet of Orlando, Fla.; daughter-in-law Viola K. Canouse of Milford, Pa.; granddaughter Lorelei K. and husband Steven Davis of Milford, Pa.; great-grandsons Daniel and Joshua Davis of Milford, Pa.; granddaughter, Jacqueline K. and husband William Carey of Westfield, Pa. She was predeceased by her son Richard Clyde Canouse on April 9, 2001. He was 68. The son of Douglas and Kathryn M. Leahey Couser, he was born on November 28, 1936 in Middletown, N.Y. He was the widower of Dolores Clark and Patricia Kenny. Survivors include his sons, Thomas M. Couser of Middletown and Steven G. Couser of Wallkill; his daughter Julie Couser Denny of Wallkill and his stepchildren Kevin Kelly of Pine Bush, Arthur Kelly of Allentown, Pa. and Susan Hearn of Vernon, N.J. He is also survived 10 grandchildren; his brother Gilbert Couser of Pine Bush and several nieces and nephews. Fasolo, Philip Philip Fasolo, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on March 13, 2005 at the age of 73. The son of Victor and Carmela Fasolo, he was born April 11, 1931 in Sloatsburg, N.Y. A former 31 year Sloatsburg and 31 year Tuxedo resident, Philip was an Army veteran of the Korean War; past commander of the Tuxedo American Legion; a member of the Millsboro American Legion; a member of the Italian Heritage Club in Millsboro, Del. and was retired from Avon Products after 38 years with the company. He is survived by his wife Erna (Hall); two children, Donna and her husband, John Letchford, and Philip and his wife, Kari Fasolo; four grandchildren: Shane (10) and Zachary (8) Letchford and Jacob and Caleb Fasolo, 14-month twins; two brothers, John and his wife, Vera Fasolo, of Warwick, and Victor and his wife, Barbara Fasolo, of Tuxedo; and one sister, Margaret and her husband, Pete Smith, of Monsey, N.Y.; three nieces, one nephew and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Flament, Sr. of Conway, South Carolina, a retired Lieutenant with the Suffern Police Department and a former Sloatsburg resident died Saturday March 12th at Conway Hospital, Conway, South Carolina. He was 60. Born June 2, 1944 in the Bronx, Jim was the son of the late Louis A. and the late Catherine (Trainor) Flament of Southbury, Connecticut; formerly Malverne, N.Y. Jim married Janice E. Izzo, Izzo of Sloatsburg, on April 20th 1968 at Saint Joan of Arc Church. Janice died in 1997. Originally from Malverne, New York, Jim was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island. Jim earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Rockland Community College in 1974. Jim proudly served his country from 1966-1969 as an AP in the Air Force K-9 unit where he was stationed at Mc Dill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Jim joined the Suffern Police department in July of 1970 where he was a Patrolman, attained Sergeant October 1979 and then Lieutenant on March 12, 1984. He also served as interim Chief from June of 1989 until August of 1990. He retired in 1996. He was a member of the Maxwell De Baun American Legion Post 859 in Suffern and a Member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Murrels Inlet, South Carolina. He was a member of the Rockland County Police Chief's Association and the New York State Association of Chief's of Police. Jim is survived by his only child, a loving son, James E. Flament, Jr. of Nyack, and his wife Allison of Faifield Connecticut. James'dear fiance, Helen Delargy, at home in Conway, South Carolina, his dear sister Madeline Sieferman and her husband George, his loving brother Louis Flament, all of, Georgia, his sister-in-law Mariann Izzo Cheney and her husband Ralph of Monticello, his brother in law, Joseph Izzo and mother-in-law Mary E. The son of the late Alexander and Blanche Kozlowski, he was born September 9, 1929 in Harrison, NJ. Mr. Kozlowski was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Kreppein, Sr., a retired manager of the accounting department at Moore McCormick Steam Ship Lines, where he was employed for 33 years, and former resident of Norwood, N.J. and Hillsdale, N.Y., died Wednesday March 16, 2005 at the Glen Arden Care Center in Goshen, N.Y. He was 92. The son of Gustav and Julia Jones Kreppein, he was born July 9, 1912 in New York City, N.Y. Urban was a life member of the Norwood, N.J. Volunteer Fire Company and the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was the widower of Emily E. Kreppein. Survivors include two sons, Donald U. Kreppein and his wife, Carol, of Stamford, Conn. and Urban A. Miller, a lifetime Sullivan County resident, died on Tuesday March 15, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 82. The son of Frederick and Katherine Reum Miller he was born on May 1, 1922 in Kenoza Lake, NY. Victor worked and retired as a housekeeper at both Liberty Loomis Hospital and Sullivan County Infirmary in Liberty. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Loch Sheldrake and the Liberty Grange. Survivors include a nephew Bruce F. Miller of Monticello; a niece Shirley Wallach of Phoenix AZ; 3 great-nephews; a great-great-nephew and a great-great-niece; several cousins and several friends. Morgan, transposed that thought into reality. Born in Greer, S.C. on April 15, 1913 to Ilan Higgins and Milton King, she was the only child. She departed this life on March 12, 2005. She moved to Beacon at an early age and attended Beacon City Schools in Beacon, N.Y. She met and married Johnson H. Morgan, Sr. in 1930. Out of that union ten children were born. Mother Morgan was blessed with a long and active life. "I've trusted God with all my heart and sought to keep His ways... God, in return, has blessed my life and multiplied my days," she said. She was spiritually developed at an early age, and reared in the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Beacon, N.Y., where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Senior Choir Member and Vice-President of the Missionary Circle. She later went on to become a "Church Member". She served on many boards and in many organizations including N.Y.S. Parent Teachers Association; life member of the National and New York State Congress; Dutchess County Mental Health Board; Dutchess County United Way; and a life member of the National Association of Colored Women's Club, Inc. Locally, she was a Century Member of Eleanor-Roosevelt-Val-Kill Council. She was the recipient of several awards including the Eleanor Roosevelt Memorial Award; Dutchess County Legislators Awards; and the Achievement Award from N.Y.C. Halfway House. She was listed in the Community Leaders of America (1972 edition). She traveled extensively and visited the Holy Land, Europe, Africa and Japan, to name a few! She leaves to cherish her memory, seven children: Louise Morgan and Dianne M. Simmons, both of Beacon, Giles and Charles Morgan, both of Poughkeepsie, Edward Morgan and his wife, Gail, of Wappingers Falls, Beverly Morgan of New York City, Albert Morgan and his wife, Gloria, of Columbia, S.C.; 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, 12 foster children and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Johnson H. Morgan, Sr., in 1975; three sons: Johnson Morgan, Jr. in 1961, Donald Morgan in 1954 and Leonard Morgan in 1983; and three grandchildren: Wayne, Lynette and Gene Morgan. "Molly" Morris, a retired librarian and longtime area resident, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 81 years old. The daughter of the late John and Ann Mimnaugh Feeney, Molly was born on October 8, 1923 in County Longford, Ireland. On December 15, 1943, Molly married Thomas F. Morris in the Bronx and in 1975 moved to Westtown. Molly worked as a librarian for the Thrall Library in Middletown for fifteen years before retiring in 1994, and was parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown. A family statement reads: "Mom touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She spent her life devoted to her husband Thomas, her six children and grandchildren. As a librarian, she shared her love of reading and her thirst of knowledge with her children. Her granddaughter, Amanda, filled her final days with love and joy. Her warm smile and contagious laughter as well as her Irish wit will long be remembered. We are all better people for having her as our mom." Narvaez, a retired secretary with more than 20 years of service to SUNY New Paltz and longtime area resident, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at Vassar Hospital. She was 81. The daughter of the late Francisco and Ines Nango Negron, she was born May 19, 1923 in Puerto Rico. She was a member of New Harvest Christian Church. She was a graduate of Newburgh Schools and also graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Barbara was married to Ralph Smith, who predeceased her in 1974. She was an active member of St. George's Church and also worked for many years at the Newburgh Free Library. Throughout her life, she spoke fondly about growing up on "The Heights", and always recalled her beloved hometown with pride. He retired in September of 1991 as a Master Sergeant, after earning numerous awards and citations including a Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal w/ Second Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal w/ Service Star, Army Achievement Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. He received an Associates Degree from The University of Maryland. In 1990 he received his LPN Certification from Great Plains Vo-Tech. He was employed at Comanche County Memorial Hospital until his death.
