Clark O. Bloom, 82, of Morrisdale, Pa., died Sunday March 13, 2005, at Windy Hill Village of the Presbyterian Homes in Philipsburg, Pa. He was born March 27, 1922 in Glen Richey, Pa., a son of the late Gard M. and Beryle (Bauman) Bloom. He was a naval veteran of World War II and retired in 1980 from the position of Superintendent of Schools in Ellenville, N.Y. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. in 1944. He received his Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950. He also received a Professional Diploma from Columbia University. Mr. Bloom was a member of the following organizations: U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association, the National Education Association, the New York State Retired Teachers Association, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Mr. Bloom was a member of the Morrisdale United Methodist Church, where he had taught Sunday School. He was a former member of the Centre Hill Grange Post #885, in rural Morrisdale, and was a past school board director in the West Branch School District. He was also the first person in the Morrisdale area to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. He is survived by a sister, Wilma Sunderland of Indian Shores, Fla.; a brother, Ray Rowles of Niagra Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Violet Bloom; and two brothers, Carl Bloom and Darl Bloom. Direct cremation with no services was observed by the family at the request of Mr. Bloom. Interment was in the Allport Cemetery, Allport, Pa. Published in the Times Herald-Record on 3/19/2005. Calabrese, Rose Rose Calabrese, of Lodi, formerly of Jersey City, N.J., died on March 17, 2005 at the home of her son. She was 75. Born on December 22, 1929 in Italy. Rose immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1932 and began her new life here marrying her husband Anthony P. Calabrese Sr. on June 17, 1950 in Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City. She was a retired secretary for the Redevelopment Agency in Jersey City. Survivors include her loving children, Patricia and her companion John Pezzino of Bonita Spring, Fla., Anthony P. and his wife Mary of Washingtonville, Joseph and his wife Marcy of Garfield, and Janie and her husband Tommy Young of Bayonne; cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Christopher, Adele and Joseph Calabrese; loving sister, Fran and her husband Anthony Scerbo; a loving brother Mario Sacco. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony P. Calabrese Sr. on February 10, 1979. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Lodi, N.J. Dirago, a longtime resident of the Hudson Valley, died on March 17, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 96. Julia was a homemaker and communicant of St. James Church, Milton. She loved spending time with her family, gardening and canning fruits with her sister, Jean. Julia was also a dedicated New York Yankees Fan. Born on March 11, 1909 in Milton, N.Y., she was the fourth of nine children, born to Thomas and Rachael (Dell Monica) Casaburo. On October 31, 1931, she was united in marriage with her lifelong friend and love, James J. Dirago at St. James Church, Milton. The couple was blessed with two children that they adored, Theresa and James. Mr. Dirago died on July 20, 1966 and was deeply missed by his wife. Julia will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She was blessed with gifts of patience, kindness and unconditional love that she selflessly expressed to everyone that she met. She enjoyed making people laugh and was well-known for her great sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by her family who were blessed to have had her for so many years. Julia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Theresa (Terry) and Clair Walters of Poughkeepsie, with whom she made her home for many years; her son James Dirago of Lake Worth, Fla. and her beloved granddaughter, Tracy Walters of Newton, Mass.; devoted nephew Ron Fino of Milton, NY. Additional survivors include a sister, Jean Fino of Milton; two brothers, James and Charles Casaburo of Highland; and several nieces and nephews. In additional to her husband, Julia was predeceased by a brother Gerard Casaburo and four sisters, Marie Pacella, Catherine Bonahue, Ann Rosasco and Rachel Randzin. Engel, Gertrude Registro Gertrude Registro Engel, a resident of Middletown for four years, having previously resided in Pine Bush, NY for 51 years, a Home Health Care Worker, entered into rest on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center-Horton Campus- Middletown, NY. She was 76. The daughter of Charles and Gertrude Gillies Registro, both deceased, she was born October 17th, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. She was married to Robert Francis Engel. She was a member of the Church of the Infant Savior, Pine Bush, NY and American Association of Retired Persons (A.A.R.P.). Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Dunn and her husband Kenneth of Middletown, NY; one son, Robert C. Haaland, Elias Elias Haaland, 73, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at his residence. Born September 11, 1931, In Aakrehavn, Karmoy, Norway, he was the son of Johan and Melene Stava Sandhaaland and had resided in Willow for the past 32 years. He resided in Staten Island and New Jersey before moving to Willow in 1972. He emigrated to the United States in January 1950 and served in the U.S. Army 7th Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division in Germany from 1952 to 1954. In 1956 he was employed by Turecamo Towing and served as a Marine Engineer until his retirement in 1996; he was a member of Union Local 333 UMD. He was a member and trustee of Overlook United Methodist Church in Woodstock, a life member of Hudson Valley Lodge 432, Sons of Norway in Kingston and a volunteer driver for Woodstock area Meals on Wheels. Surviving are his wife, Nora Kallestein Haaland; his children, John and his wife Ann of Highland, Robert and his wife Jann of Ulster Park, Gordon of Shokan, Kenneth and his wife Jennifer of Saugerties and Karin and her husband Peter Weyand of Kingston; his mother-in-law, Ragnhild Kallestein of Karmoy, Norway; two sister, Judith Robertsen and Anne Katrine Mannes; a sister-in-law, Kirsten Sandhaaland all of Karmoy, Norway; eight grandchildren, Britt, Alyssa, Jessica, Gordon, Cody, Andrew, Megan and Samuel Haaland; and nieces and nephews. Honan, Marie Marie Honan of Monroe, NY, a retired office assistant for Price Waterhouse in New York City and a 24 year resident of the area, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. Marie was 72 years of age. The daughter of the late James and Maria Barry Murphy, she was born on April 23, 1932 in New York City. Marie was married to Joseph Honan; he died on November 7, 1993. Survivors include her three daughters: Barbara O'Keeffe and her husband William of Monroe, NY, Claire Bromley and her husband Leander of Catskill, NY and Joanne Nuzzolese and her husband Andrew of Pineville, NC. Marie also survived by her two brothers, Stephen Murphy of Australia and John Murphy of Monroe, NY and two sisters: Patricia McGuinness Hughes of New Jersey and Cathleen Semark of England. She loved animals, especially the swans she frequently fed on Garrison's Pond. She enjoyed ice skating, dancing and family gatherings filled with laughter.
