Mrs. Baker was a former longtime resident of Fort Montgomery, NY; a life member of Town of Highlands Ambulance Corp, Highland Falls; member of Fort Montgomery Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Montgomery, NY. Becraft of Greenwood Lake, a fifteen year resident of the area, formerly of New York, NY and owner of Dave's Wine and Liquors in Greenwood Lake, died Saturday March 19, 2005 at St. Anthony Community in Warwick. He was 69. The son of the late Ronald E. and Gertrude Murrin Becraft, he was born on February 4, 1936 in Ramapo, NJ. A Veteran, Mr. Becraft served as an intelligence tech for three tours of duty in the Vietnam War and was awarded several notorieties, including two Bronze Stars, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal and an Army Commendation Medal. Clark of Middletown, a teacher's assistant at the Chorley School in Middletown and a lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 69. The daughter of Sherwood and Evelyn Ostrander Myers, she was born on February 22, 1936 in Middletown, NY. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Middletown. A class of 1953 graduate of Middletown High School, Mrs. Clark was an active volunteer having donated her time to Meals on Wheels as well as being a volunteer at Horton. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include her husband William M. Clark Jr. at home and four children, Karen Klein and her husband John, Jeffrey Clark and his wife Judy, William B. Clark and Carolyn Clark. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Myers, her sister, Joan Doscher and her grandchildren, Tara Clark and Michael B. Iva will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed. Favoino, a lifetime resident of Newburgh and former Mason Contractor for many years in the Newburgh area before retiring from the Housing Office at the USMA, West Point, entered into rest Saturday, March 19, 2005 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 87. Son of the late Angelo and Dora Mazzarelli Favoino, he was born October 20, 1917 in Newburgh. He was married to the late Joyce Andrews Favoino, who predeceased him in 1993. Mr. Favoino proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II, where he received the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. He was an active member of his community, serving for the Knights of Columbus 444, 4th Degree, life member of the National PTA, charter member of Newburgh Civic Theater, Cub master for Pack 5 of Newburgh, past Camping and Activities Chairman for the Hudson/Delaware Council for BSA, served as district representative for the NYS Community Theater Assn., member of Order of the Arrow for the BSA, Silver Beaver Recipient, member of Catholic War Veterans of Sacred Heart Church where he also served as past vice chairman, was a life member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board where he also served as past chairman, and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. Survivors include two sons, Vincent H. "Mickey" Favoino and his wife Barbara of Newburgh, and Charles K. Favoino and his wife Patricia of New Windsor; his sister, Lauretta Rich of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, Amanda, Jennifer and Heather Favoino; nieces Janie Conway, Sue Favoino, and Dolores Tooley; and several cousins and numerous friends. Formerly of Central Valley and Hillburn, N.Y. Robert R. Holbrook, a retired equipment operator for the New York State Thruway Authority in Harriman, N.Y., died Friday March 18, 2005, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, N.Y. He was 67. The son of the late Charles Holbrook and Mae Summers Holbrook, he was born September 27, 1937 in Suffern, N.Y. He was the widower of Lorraine F. Slicker Holbrook. Moe Oretsky, of Hallandale Beach, Florida, formerly of South Fallsburg, N.Y., passed away on March 17 at age 90. Kolk, Henry Henry Kolk, a 74 year area resident and a retired self employed television repair technician in the Florida-Goshen area and former dairy farmer, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 in Orange County Residential Health Care Facility, Goshen, NY. He was 90. The son of Sikke Kolk and Alice Drenth Kolk, he was born October 16, 1914 in Oude Pekela, Netherlands. He was married to Dorothy Grefe Kolk; she predeceased him June 15, 2004. Mr. Kolk was a member of Faith Reformed Church, South Centerville, NY; a member of the "Keenager Club" of the church; and a member of the National Radio Institute Alumni Association. A family statement read: "Henry was a devoted family man who enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren. He loved working the land on his dairy farm and he proudly introduced the television services business in the Florida and Goshen area. He will be greatly missed. Matthews, of Montgomery, a retired Carpenter-Foreman for Brescia Pole Buildings, Montgomery and a 52-year resident of the area, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Horton Hospital in Middletown. He was 78. The son of the late John and Carrie Walker Matthews, he was born September 24, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in the Navy during World War II in service all over the world and was a member of the Montgomery American Legion. John had also worked as a Police Officer in the Village of Montgomery. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Montgomery. He served 51 years in fire service first with Colonel Bradley Hose Company in Walden for 9 yeas then with the Fleet Hook and Ladder Company of Montgomery Volunteer Fire Dept. for 42 Years. John was past president of the Montgomery Fire Dept and past captain of the Montgomery Fire Police, life-member of the State Volunteer Fire Police Association, and Orange County Volunteer Fire Police Association, and a Director of the State Fire Police Association. He had been a recipient of the Fire Police of the Year Award for The Hudson Valley. Survivors include his wife Angeline "Jean" L. Matthews at home; daughter Deborah Valleau and husband Rich of Pine Bush; son John P. The son of Richard S. Nostrand and Amelia Canfronie, he was born November 2, 1949 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was married to Marlene Morvillo in First United Methodist Church in Highland on June 26, 1983. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church in Highland and a member of the American Legion. Oates Sr., or "Poppy," to all who knew him, died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 87. The son of the late Garland E. Oates and Nannie Sinclair Oates, he was born October 14, 1917 in Kingsport, Tennessee. Mr. Oates was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army, where he was a prisoner of war. He went on to retire after 30+ years as a machine operator for Channel Master in Ellenville. He was also a member of the Community Church of Bloomingburg, VFW Post #4947, Mamakating, and the Bloomingburg Fire Dept.-Fire Police; and was an avid sports fan. "Poppy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be sadly missed and always in our hearts."
