She was 93. Maria was born in Tysmienica, Ukraine on December 30, 1911, the daughter of the late Petro Zahadayko and Anhelina Baranowska. Maria had married Nicholas Avramchuk in May, 1937 and moved to America in 1970. Mr. Avramchuk died in April 2000. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, teaching at school and singing in choir. She also volunteered for the Office for the Aging. Maria is survived by two daughters, Marta Sawka and husband, Walery, of Kerhonkson, and Iya Avramchuk-Klim and her husband, Ruddolph, of Lafayette, Ind.; three grandchildren: Peter Klim, Beatrice Ann Levickyj and Ilyana Sawka; and a great-granddaughter, Xenia. Funeral services will begin Saturday, March 26 at 9:30 AM at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 Forty Second St., Kerhonkson, NY. The Holy Sacrifice of the Devine Liturgy will be celebrated on March 26 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson with the Rev. Volodymyr Piso officiating. Bartman, James A. Formerly of Mountainville, N.Y. and Wallkill, N.Y. James Audley Bartman, 84, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday March 5, 2005, at home. He was born in Hartford, Conn. on October 29, 1920, the son of Leona and Adelbert Bartman. At the age of 17, James joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped to build the Winooski Dam in Vermont. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's mate aboard the Rubin James. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz and taught in the Cairo, Greenville and Kingston school districts. In addition, he built and operated the Buttonball Campsites in South Cairo, N.Y., and also developed and sold real estate in Greene County, N.Y. James served on the Board of Managers at the Greene County Memorial Hospital in Catskill, N.Y., and also served as chairman of the Cairo Tax Review Board. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Cairo. After moving to Port Charlotte in 1985, James became a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. He was a member of the former Port Charlotte Elks Lodge where his name was engraved on the Elks statue previously in front of the lodge. He was also a member of the Port Charlotte Moose Lodge. James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Myers Bartman; son and daughter-in-law, James and Patricia Bartman of Port Charlotte, and their children: Jimmy, Johanna, Judy and Joshua; and son and daughter-in-law, Jerrold and Michael-Ann Bartman of Niskayuna, N.Y., and their son, Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey, in 1961 and his only brother, Frank, who died in 1997. James will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Inurnment will be at the family burial plot in Shawangunk Dutch Reformed Church in Wallkill, on June 27, 2005 at 11:00 AM. Francis was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Cornwall; the Solomon Lodge #196 Free Masons in Tarrytown, N.Y., where he served as master from 1980-1981; the VFW of East Irvington, N.Y.; and he served with the healing ministry with St. Mary's Church of Scarborough, N.Y. Herschowsky, Julius Julius Herschowsky, former owner of Hershey Tool Company, and 80-plus year area resident, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Hospice By The Sea, in Boca Raton, Florida, of natural causes. He was 86. The son of the late Samuel Herschowsky and the late Tillie Herschowsky, he was born August 16, 1918 in New York, New York. He was married to the late Sylvia Herschowsky, who passed away on December 2, 2001, and was predeceased by his brother, Irving Hershey. Mr. Herschowsky was the last living charter member of the Accord Fire Company and was also a charter member of the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad. He was involved in various fire/police fund raising and civic community activities throughout the years and was also a constable. A pillar of the community, he resided in Florida but summered in his home in Kerhonkson, New York until July 2002. McCoy, Jean Ann Jean Ann McCoy, 77, of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday March 23, 2005 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York City on May 15, 1927, she was the daughter of Raymond and Margaret Cook Groll. She moved to Sullivan County after marrying Francis McCoy on February 15, 1947. She was the retired X-ray technician and office manager for Dr. J. Arthur Riesenberg. She worked for him for over 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Liberty, where for many years she was actively involved in organizing and preparing many church dinners. She loved doing crafts, knitting afghans for her family and friends and watching cooking shows on TV. Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Francis (Frank) McCoy, at home; one son, Francis (Frank) McCoy Jr. and his wife, Carole, of Liberty; and one sister, Marian Dirscherl of Bonita Beach, Fla. She also leaves behind the light of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: grandsons, Timothy S. McCoy and his wife, Dawn, of Neversink, and Christopher M. McCoy of Liberty; great-granddaughter Lindsay Nicole McCoy and great-grandson Aden John McCoy, both of Neversink; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a loving wife and mother who spent her time, when not working, volunteering in the community with various agencies such as Meals on Wheels. She attended Newburgh schools and was a graduate of Spencer Business College. Dorothy was co-owner of Petrolo's Oil Service in Newburgh for 30 years; was a member of the Moose Lodge along with her husband, Nicholas; and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Newburgh. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Nicholas Petrolo, who lives with his daughter in the Town of Newburgh; her children, Nicholas Petrolo of Walden and Barbara Bourne of Newburgh; her grandson, Nicholas K. She married Ross Romeo at St. James Church in Milton, N.Y. on February 11, 1939. He predeceased her on June 10, 1988. Santopietro, Angelina "Ann" Angelina "Ann" Santopietro, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday March 23, 2005 in Montgomery Nursing Home. She was 74 years old. The daughter of the late William and Antoinette Mastromonico Aliano, she was born April 20, 1930 in New York City. Ann was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Bullville until she and her husband, Rudolph moved to Homossassa, Fl in 1990. She was a member of the NYS Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, co-founder of Pond View Farm and together with her husband was an active member of Stagecrafters, a community based theater group in the Homossassa area. One of Ann's greatest loves was horses. She admired their grace and beauty and was always excited to see them race. She is survived by her two daughters, Judi Lynch and her husband, Kenneth of Pine Bush and Lori Maloney and her husband, Joseph of Balston Lake; three grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, and Rudy of Pine Bush; one brother, Daniel Aliano and his wife, Angela of Mahopac. Sears, age 66, of 6797 County Rd. 129, Ovid, NY and formerly of Freeville, NY went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, NY. Frances attended Dryden Schools and lived in the West Dryden area until relocating to the Ovid area in 1981. On February 20, 1955 she was married to Floyd W. Sears. Together and with family members, they traveled many miles and were well known as the Floyd Sears Family Gospel Singers. She was employed years ago at Ithacare in food service and later at Ithaca College dining services. For a short time she and Floyd owned their own restaurant. Fran loved cake making and having large family gatherings. Fran was instrumental in getting Floyd into the music recording business and with him cut seven country gospel music albums. In these last years their music ministry was mostly in care homes and rehabilitation facilities. Fran loved to be in church and was always encouraging others to worship the Lord. Recently they have made their winter home in Lakeland Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Genevieve Corgel Morse and a brother, James Morse. Published in the Times Herald-Record on 3/25/2005. Velez, Maximino Mr. Maximino Velez of Westtown and formerly of Puerto Rico died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 88. He was born December 17, 1916 in Puerto Rico, the son of the late Juan Velez and the late Rosario Echavarria. He was married to the late Lorenza Pagan. A family statement reads: "For the past 10 years, Maximino has been living with his daughter Sonia in Westtown. He moved to New York City from Puerto Rico in 1948, where he worked as a pattern cutter in the garment industry. The Velez family lived most of their life in Brooklyn. Maximino returned to Puerto Rico for a number of years around 1982. He then moved back to New York in 1995 to live with his daughter Sonia. He will return to Puerto Rico one more time to be buried in Mayagues, Puerto Rico, the land he so loves." Surviving him are his four sons: Nelson Velez of Queens, N.Y., Jose "Chick" Velez of Denver, Colo., Ruben Velez of Duncanhon, Pa., and Raymond Velez of Long Island, N.Y.; five daughters: Sonia Neely of Westtown, Ana Filosa of Staten Island, N.Y., Hilda Murphy of Bradanton, Fla., Carmen McGinnis of Pennsylvania, and Dolores Velez of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Benito Velez of Puerto Rico; and also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Puerto Rico and the United States. He was predeceased by two children, Louis Velez and Juanito Velez. The funeral home in charge of services in Mendez Vigo 110 Oeste, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico 00681. Burial will be at Los Robles, Caborojo, Puerto Rico. Funeral arrangements are by the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis.
