Tremper, "Papa", 75, of Fallsburg, passed away peacefully Friday May 6, 2005 at home in the loving hands of his wife and his "girls", after a courageous and dignified battle with emphysema and cancer. A longtime manager at Dolly Madison Ice Cream Company, he would retire from S&W Ice Cream Company in 1985. He was also a self-employed evergreen dealer. Loyd was born July 31, 1929 in Fallsburg to the late Floyd and Lula Tremper. He served in the United States Army at Fort Polk, La. An avid guitar player and singer, he was known for his "crying song". He spent countless hours entertaining his girls and the grandchildren that followed. A gentle soul and perfectionist, who had a passion for the outdoors, his happiness was derived from giving to others, especially his family. His sense of humor kept us laughing until the very end. Such a special grandfather to "the grandkids", that even in the last hours of his life his thoughts were on the memories he shared with them. He was "Papa", not only to his own grandchildren, but to their friends as well. In his last unselfish act, he comforted us and allowed us to share part of his journey "home". He was loved by all and will always be with us, larger than life. We can now respond to his famous statement "I don't know what you people will do without me". Well, we just don't know. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Luella DeGraw, and his "girls", Debra Larsen and her husband, Thomas, of Callicoon Center, Cindi Alexander and her husband, Michael, of Fallsburg, Susan Tremper-Hiatt of Fallsburg, and Penny Collins and her husband, David, of Skaneateles, N.Y.; the "grandkids": Jonathan Loyd Burgess, Heather Dymond and her husband, Bert, Kristen and Daniel Collins, Halley and Jenna Hiatt and Dylan and Jillian Alexander; the "great grandbabies": Tremper "Trey" and Austin Dymond and Amaya Burgess; and one sister, Mary Conklin of Sidney, N.Y. He was predeceased by one sister, Loretta Zimmerman. Friends may call Monday May 9, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne, N.Y. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 1:30 PM with the Reverend Penny Collins, his daughter, officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Fallsburg Cemetery, Fallsburg, N.Y.
