Evelyn G. Adams, formerly of Cornwall, a retired sales clerk for Sears Roebuck Co. and a longtime area resident, died Monday, May 5, 2005 at Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Home, Fishkill. She was 100. The daughter of the late Edmund and Jennie Mae Pike Garland, she was born March 10, 1904 in Yonkers and was the widow of the late Elmer Adams. She was predeceased by a brother, Vernon Garland. Survivors include a nephew, nieces and a cousin. There are no calling hours. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. Donations may be made to the Cornwall Ambulance Corp. Bennett of Ellenville, a longtime resident who worked for the former Lazarowitz Handkerchief Factory in Ellenville, died May 24, 2005 in the Ellenville Regional Hospital. She was 90. The daughter of John and Elsie J. LaForge Duncan, she was born March 10, 1915 in New York City. She was the widow of Silas G. Bennett. Helen was a member of the Ellenville Reformed Church. She is survived by her son, George Bennett of Ellenville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours and graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville. The Rev. Jay Vogelaar will officiate. The daughter of Frederick William and Julia Emily Perry Lang, she was born May 30, 1910 in Hawley, Pa. She was the widow of Harry Budd. Ethel attended the Circleville Evangelical Church. Survivors include her children: Herbert Budd of Okeechobee, Fla., Carl Budd of Napanoch, Eddie Budd of Spring Glen, Joyce Haener of Wallkill, Harry Budd of Montgomery, and Howard Budd of Ellenville; her sister, Lillian Hennessey of Matamoras, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Cables, Irene Irene Cables, 74, of Tillson, died suddenly on Tuesday, May 23, 2005 at the Benedictine Hospital. She was born March 8, 1935 in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry and Judith Mann Milliken. A Tillson resident for the past 52 years, she was employed for the past 42 years by Arthur F. Mulligan Inc., as a school bus driver. She was well-known and respected in her profession having driven some 4 generations of school children to and from area schools. The Daily Freeman recognized her for 25 years as a school bus driver in 1988 and featured her with a full page article in the Life section. She also was the owner of Eskiloo's Alaskan Malamutes and Cables Purina Chow Distributors in Tillson. Her husband, William Cables died June 29, 1988. She is survived by her three daughters, Sonia Rhymer of White Lake, Dorene Whitaker of Tillson and Lori Fairbrother of Galeway. Also survived by nine grandchildren, Karen, Tracy, Jennifer, William Miller, Christopher, Brian, Brandi, Brittany and Joseph; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Gallo, Marion Marion Gallo, a seamstress for Gale Dress Factory in Highland, up until her retirement, and longtime resident of Highland, died May 24, 2005 at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland. She was 101. The daughter of the late Charles Spataro and Maria Spinelli, she was born June 25, 1903 in Spring Valley, N.Y. She married Frank Gallo Sr. in 1924 in Manhattan, N.Y. He died Feb. 24, 1984. She was a past member of the Mid Hudson Senior Citizens; member of St. Augustine R.C. Church, Highland. She was a beloved wife, daughter, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Scott and her husband Logan of Highland; one son, Frank Gallo Jr. and his wife Marlis of Town of Olive; one brother Michael Spataro of Highland; four grandchildren, Michael, Eric, Logan and Lance; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Sydney, Casey and Matthew Scott; and three nieces, Marie Jensen, Lillian Marceline and Dorothy. She was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Chiafalo and two brothers, Carl Spataro and James Spataro. Garver, Jr. (Ret.), of Bethesda, Md, a retired Army officer and former Chief Cartographer for the National Geographic Society in Washington D.C., died May 22, 2005 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md. He was 76. He was born July 11, 1928 in Strasburg, Ohio, and was the son of the late John B. Garver, Sr. and the late Grace Miller Garver. After completing an 18-month Army enlistment with the rank of Staff Sergeant, John entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1952. Commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry, he served an additional 30 years in the Army, including a tour in Vietnam as a Battalion Commander and Deputy Brigade Commander. He earned a Ph.D. from Syracuse University, retiring from a position as a tenured Professor for the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, U.S.M.A.. In 1982, John became Chief Cartographer and Senior Assistant Editor at the National Geographic Society, where he worked for 10 years before retiring. He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Meredith Hunter Garver, and one sister, Elizabeth Jolie. Survivors include three sons: John B. Garver III of Matthews, N.C., Thomas H. Garver of Wausau, Wis., and Robert M. Garver of Harpswell, Maine; one daughter, Carol E. Garver of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Josephine Bichsel of Cincinnati, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hicks was born in Warwick, N.Y. on November 9, 1921 to Floyd and Marie Hicks. Harold was employed for many years at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, N.Y. He was predeceased by his son, Terryl in 2003. Harold is survived by his wife, Raydelle; daughter, Denise Williams of Bronx, N.Y.; son, Harold of California; and three grandchildren: Jada Williams, Jamael Williams and Joshua Collins. Krepick, Ivan John Ivan John Krepick, born in Berwick, PA on May 31, 1908, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph of the Pines, Southern Pines, NC, on May 21, 2005 at age of 96. A lifelong teacher and educator, John served as Chairman of the Business Department at Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC from 1972 to 1978. Before that he was the founding President of Surry Community College in Dobson, NC from 1964 - 1971. Between 1950 and 1964 he held a variety of positions at Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY including teaching business courses, golf coach, Academic Dean, Vice President and ultimately Interim President of the College. Between 1947 and 1950 he taught at Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond, VA and was the Dean of the Business Department. John started his teaching career in 1935 in Tunkhannock, PA and taught high school and coached football, basketball, and track in Tunkhannock and Goshen, NY through 1947. John's passion for teaching and education was rivaled by his love of golf and his family. He was very proud of the many golf rounds where he 'shot his age' starting at age 76. When he retired from teaching, he enjoyed the role as "starter" for nearly 10 years at Pine Needles Resort as a starter. He transferred his love for the game to his children and grandchildren. His wife of 25 years, Jean Henning, died in 1972. In 1975 he married Dorothy Hill of Southern Pines. He is survived by Dorothy; his older son, John and wife Sue Hamilton-Krepick (Los Gatos, CA); younger son, Bill and wife Donna (Mountain View, CA); and his daughter Suzanne Hill Regan and son-in-law Greg Regan of Southern Pines; three grandchildren (Kelly, Todd and Mike) and five great-grandchildren (Steven, Alex, Jacob, Ciana and Trinity); and a number of nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. John received his B.S. in education from Bloomsburg State Teachers College (Pennsylvania) in 1934. He earned an M.S. in Education Administration from NYU in 1945. He was a member of the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian church of Southern Pines, Community College President's Association, North Carolina Educators Association, and National Education Association. A private Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held. A reception for friends will be held from 6- 7:30 p.m. on Sunday May 29th at the Pine Needles Resort. She was 61 years of age. The daughter of the late Roland Albrecht and Margarethe Wortmann, she was born on February 3, 1944 in Germany. Robert Earl McPhillips, of Montgomery, died peacefully Wed. May 25, 2005 at home with his family at his side after battling heart and lung disease. He was born Aug. 31, 1921 on Berea Rd., Town of Montgomery. He was the son of the late Raymond W. McPhillips Sr. and Emma Schamback McPhillips. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Raymond. Bob was retired after working 37 years as a Field Engineer for the National Cash Register Co. In later years you might remember him as a friendly greeter at Millspaugh's Funeral Home. He graduated from Walden High School in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 3 years in Panama. He was married to Barbara DuBois McPhillips Oct. 15, 1950 in Modena Methodist Church, Modena, N.Y. His and Barbara's 50th anniversary cruise to Bermuda with family was a highlight in his later years. He also enjoyed his twin brother relationship and the joyful pranks they would pull on people.
