Alonzo R. Benedict, Jr. of Wallkill, a retired Foreman for DuPont/Stauffer Chemical Co. in Newburgh and a lifetime resident of the area, died Thursday May 26, 2005 in Wallkill, N.Y. He was 90. The son of Alonzo R. Benedict, Sr. and Maybelle Marius Benedict, he was born September 27, 1914 in Highland Falls, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Gunnery Instructor. He was a member of Wallkill Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder and a Deacon; and was a member of the National Rifle Association; the Leptondale Gun Club; and was a private pilot for over 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Presler Benedict, at home; two daughters, Janet Odendahl and husband, Paul, of Limestone, Tenn., and Marilyn McHugh and husband, Chris, of Wallkill; four grandchildren: Kurt Mausolf, Steven Mausolf, Julie Witherel Moussot and husband, John, and John Witherel and wife, Helen; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Theron Benedict and wife, Betty, of New Windsor, and Cornelius Benedict and wife, Roxie, of Newburgh; two sisters, Blanche Baxter of Montgomery and Virginia Wood of Newburgh; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Mausolf; four brothers: George Clinton Benedict, Wilbur Benedict, Arnold Benedict, and Henry Benedict; and one sister, Marguerite Reade. Visitation will be Sunday May 29, 2005 from 5-8 PM at the Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., (Rte 208), Wallkill, N.Y. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 30 at 11:00 AM at the Wallkill Reformed Church, 45 Bridge St., Wallkill, N.Y. with the Rev. Toni Macon officiating. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, N.Y. Interment of ashes will be in the Rossville Cemetery in Plattekill. Arrangements were made by Wallkill Funeral Home. PEARL LECHNER East Branch, N.Y. Pearl Lechner, 85, of East Branch, died on Wednesday May 25, 2005 at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge, N.J. She was born on May 18, 1920 in Lakewood, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Soptiko) Kulakowsky. Pearl married George Lechner on May 18, 1946 in Lakewood, Pa. George predeceased her on July 26, 1992. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hancock and the Delaware Valley and Roscoe Garden Clubs. Two daughters and sons-in-law survive: Barbara and David Rogers of Manalapan, N.J. and Karen and Bob Nickerson of Chenango Forks, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law also survive: George, Jr. and Anne Marie Lechner of Highland, N.Y. and David and Diane Lechner of Apalachin, N.Y.; seven grandchildren: Kevin, Matt, Steven, Troy, Tara, Samantha, Kylea and Julia; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Genevieve Oderna of Syosset, N.Y. also survives. Gallaher, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Elant Nursing Home, Newburgh. She was 66. The daughter of the late Peter and Gladys Nelson Rodak, she was born February 25, 1939 in Peekskill, N.Y. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Survivors include her stepfather, Richard Nelson of Port Richey, Fla.; daughter, Linda Graham of Newburgh; sons, William Gallaher of Dover Plains, N.Y., Peter Gallaher and Todd Gallaher both of Wappingers Falls, George Gallaher and Stephen Gallaher both of Poughkeepsie; one brother, John Rodak of Mahopac, N.Y.; two sisters, Anna Hongach of Peekskill and Evelyn Rodak of Verplanck, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Jensen Sr., 70 years old, of New Windsor, a retired supervisor working for 35 years with Lederle Labs in Pearl River N.Y., died suddenly on May 25, 2005. The son of Edwin Jensen and Mary Horvath Jensen, he was born June 20, 1934 in Queens N.Y. He was the husband of Anna Dorothy Stibick Jensen. Survivors include two sons: James C. Jensen Jr. of Queens, Robert Stibick of Montague, N.J.; five daughters: Dawn Lea Marnell & her husband Chris of Highland, Donna Lee Rhodes & her husband Jeff of Jacksonville Fla., Lisa Marchi & her husband Steve of New Windsor, Jennifer Miracle Jensen of Boston, Mass., Dawn Tamara Gray of Newburgh; four sisters; two brothers; several grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Keresztes Sr., Vilmos Vilmos Keresztes Sr., of Cornwall, died peacefully Friday, May 6, 2005 after a short four-year battle with a disabling stroke. He was 76. Though a native of Budapest, Hungary, Keresztes lived in the Dominican Republic for many years. There he met his wife of nearly 50 years, Iris Cordero. The two emigrated to the United States in 1960 and eventually settled in Waldwick, N.J. Trained as a jeweler and watch maker, Keresztes learned English by reading comic books and listening to the radio. He became an employee of Professional Camera Repair, Inc. in New York, eventually becoming the company's manager and vice-president and taking its ranks to over forty employees, making it the most successful camera repair business for professional photographers in the Eastern United States. Keresztes was a hobbyist. An unsurpassed chef, Keresztes entertained with gourmet cooking for years. He was a master model airplane builder, photographer, clock maker, animal enthusiast and stamp collector. He is survived by his wife Iris, two daughters: Anna Heh of Pembrooke Pines, Fla., Carmen Kerr of Cornwall, one son Vilmos Keresztes of Buffalo, N.Y., and seven grandchildren. Leight, Carolyn "Kay" Carolyn "Kay" Leight, retired owner of Kay's Lunch in Port Jervis and lifelong area resident, died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 90. The daughter of the late Dayton and Della Aber Kent, she was born May 27, 1915 in Port Jervis. She was the widow of LeGrand "Bucky" Leicht. She was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church, Port Jervis; former Deacon of the church; member of the former "Shipmates", Port Jervis; Ladies Auxiliary of the Howard Wheat Hose Co. #4, Port Jervis Fire Dept. Kay was an avid Bingo player who enjoyed being with people and always having a good word to say about someone. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Scott and her husband Thomas of Matamoras, Pa.; two sons, William C. Leicht and his wife Carol of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kenneth J. She was an honorary member of the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club in Wallkill, N.Y., Michelle enjoyed playing cards. Gloria was born in New York City on July 22, 1930, the daughter of Philip and Ann Lefkowitz. She was the widow of Jack Novick who passed in 1975, and she was a member of Workman Circle Branch #281.
