George Francis Ajjan, age 84, of Lavallette, N.J., died Saturday May 28, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Aleppo, Syria and came to this country in 1921, settling in Paterson, N.J., having lived in North Haledon, N.J. and Monroe before moving to Lavallette, N.J. three years ago. Mr. Ajjan was the owner of Mill Pond Dry Cleaners in Monroe for sixty years having retired in 1979. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. "Dad's laugh was hearty. He was a perfectionist and had an overwhelming pride in his family." Mr. Ajjan enjoyed reading, gardening, tropical fish, and tinkering in his workroom. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Gertrude (nee Fattell) Ajjan; one daughter, Karen Stein and her husband, Hilton, of Lavallette, N.J.; two sons, Dr. George M. Ajjan and his wife, Mary Joan, of Franklin Lakes, N.J., and John B. Ajjan and his wife, Fran, of Monroe; two sisters, Rose Law of Hawthorne, N.J., and Margaret DeMott of Southern, N.J.; two brothers, John Adjan of Pompton Lakes, N.J., and Charles Ajjan of Lakewood, N.J.; and eight grandchildren: George Charles, Brian, Kevin, Vanessa, Valerie, Marc, Jenny, and Lauren. Baim, a self-employed mechanic at Baim's Garage in Youngsville, and a bus driver for First Student Bus Company, died Sunday May 29, 2005 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, N.Y. He was 58. The son of Doris Joyner Baim and the late Elwood J. Baim, he was born March 19, 1947 in Liberty, N.Y. Dennis was a 40-year member of the Youngsville Fire Department; a Councilman for the Town of Callicoon; a member of the United Reformed Church in Youngsville; a U.S. Air Force veteran; member of the H. Russell Kenyon Post #5808 VFW in Callicoon; and a member of the Neversink Roundout Antique Machinery Club. She was born August 3, 1923 in Port Jervis, N.Y. Mrs. Bollin was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church and International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Boyce of Middletown passed away Friday May 27, 2005 at Castle Point Veterans Hospital in Beacon after a long illness. The son of the late Alden and Edna Myers Boyce, Robert was born in Beacon and was a lifelong resident of the area. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired meat manager for the Grand Union Company. Bull, Richard Wait "Pete" Richard "Pete" Wait Bull, of Blooming Grove, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest Friday May 27, 2005 in Montgomery, N.Y. He was 90. Son of the late John S. and Lucille Rawlins Wait Bull, he was born July 31, 1914 in Newburgh, N.Y. Pete was a former majority owner of Stephan M. Bull Wholesale Grocers of Front Street in Newburgh until sold in 1959, then became a Licensed Real Estate Broker until his retirement in the 1990's. He was a member of the City Club of Newburgh, the Powelton Club of Balmville, and the Lions Club of Newburgh, and then later Wallkill. He was an avid golfer, bowler, equestrian, and an animal lover. He was a kind and loving person, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the staff of the Montgomery Nursing Home for their kindness and compassion. Carroll, also known to many as Deacon Carroll and Deacon Harold, died Friday May 27, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. He was 89. A longtime resident of the area, he was the proprietor of the Emperial 400 Motel in Newburgh, N.Y. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and A.A.R.P., and former member of the VFW. Harold was a First Sergeant of the 129th Infantry Regiment of the 37th Division in the U.S. Army during World War II. In combat for 38 months in S.W. Pacific and Luzon in the Pacific, he was wounded at Clarke Frild, Luzon and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Soldier's Medal. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Gardiner; ordained by Cardinal Cooke on February 10, 1979 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City; visited the sick in hospitals and nursing homes throughout the area; was a Moderator at Society of Our Lady Miraculous Metal Novena at St. Charles; and was a member of Nocturnal Adoration Society at St. Charles Church. The son of Harry J. Carroll and Ethel Scott, he was born January 26, 1916 in New York City, N.Y. He married Doris Maas on January 12, 1946 in St. Clare Catholic Church, Rosedale, Long Island, N.Y. She predeceased him on December 23, 1992. He is survived by two nephews: Stephen Carroll of New Hampshire, and Raymond Carroll of Marlton, N.J.; and four nieces: Chris Harvey of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Eileen Merkhofer of Mt. The son of Stanley From and Olympia Wrzesienski From, he was born May 22, 1921 in Wawaywanda, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and was a sales representative for Yale Lock Company for over 25 years. Before moving to this area, he resided in Brick, N.J. and Orlando, Fla. He especially enjoyed his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Sahler From, at home; two daughters, Mary From of West Warwick, R.I. and Nancy From Bourke and her husband, Patrick, of Tuxedo Park; four grandchildren: Paul, Michael, and Peter Bourke, and Kristie Emproto; one brother, Theodore From of Wappinger Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Israelski, Sam Sam Israelski, son of Dora and Itzhak Israelski is survived by his wife Shery, 3 sons, Ira, Dennis, and Ronnie, their wives, Robin, Kristina and Mary, 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Julia, Michelle, Katelyn, Sean, Aidan, Alec and Kamryn, and his sister Sally. He was born in Wloclawek, Poland. Of his seven family members only he and his sister Sally survived the Holocaust. From 1939 - 1945 Sam survived as a prisoner in labor and extermination camps. After the liberation Sam married Shery Pollak and immigrated to the U.S. He worked his way up from menial jobs to becoming president of Valerie Sportswear. He raised three sons two of whom are physicians and one a special education administrator who later joined his dad in business. Sam was a true humanitarian who dedicated his life to philanthropic endeavors. Sam loved this country so much and helped bring other families from Europe and Israel to America enabling them to realize the American dream. A truly great man who touched so many lives, he will be greatly missed. Jacko, Hobart Buriel Hobart Buriel Jacko of Monticello, passed away at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, N.Y. on Friday May 20,2005. He was 77. Mr. Jacko was born in Elizabeth, N.J. on April 27,1928. He was a jazz musician, playing trumpet at many local hotels and in many cities across the U.S. He played with the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Charley Parker, and was a member of the Musicians Union Local 802 in New York City. He was also a former Golden Gloves Boxer. He is survived by his guardians Scott and Yvonne Warner-Einbinder of Monticello. There will be no visitation. Formerly of Pottstown, Pa., she was the devoted wife of the late Reverend David W. Jenks; loving mother of four children: Nancy Redkey of LaGrangeville, N.Y., Mary Kraaij of Baltimore, Md., Peter Jenks of Luxembourg, and Sarah Grainger of Carmel, N.Y.; adored grandmother of eight grandchildren: David Redkey, Elizabeth Redkey, Susan Day, Kathryn Berryman, Robert Jenks, Daniel Jenks, Rebecca Obrinsky, and Jessica Obrinsky; and proud great-grandmother of three: Zachary, Tyler and Caroline Berryman. He was born in New York City, N.Y., the son of the late Stephen and Anna Kichura. Mr. Kichura lived in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, N.Y. for many years before moving to Belle Meade, N.J. seven years ago. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He served in the Pacific Theater and received the American Defense Service Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal; and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Kichura had worked as an insurance adjuster for the Home Insurance Company in New York City for 27 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed many summers at Yankee Lake, N.Y. He was a past member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in New York City, N.Y. and was currently a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough, N.J. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 1993. He was married to her for 46 years. Survivors include three sons: Edward L. Kichura and wife, Venice, of South Windsor, Conn., Jack Kichura and wife, Georgianna, of Belle Meade, N.J., and Ronald M. Edna L. Pulos, a lifelong area resident and cook at Dingman Delaware School District, died Saturday May 28, 2005 at home. She was 74. The daughter of the late Elwood "Beans" Gordon and Louise Heater Gordon, she was born April 15, 1931 in Matamoras, Pa. She was the widow of Richard Pulos. Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras and the Matamoras Recreation Committee. She is survived by her son, Gary Southard and wife, Ellen, of Huguenot, N.Y.; one daughter, Julie Fuller and husband, Randy, of Matamoras; three brothers: William Gordon of Middletown, Kenneth Gordon of Binghamton, N.Y., and Harold VanAcken of Slate Hill, N.Y.; one sister, Marge Schumacher of Middletown; two stepsons, Richard Pulos and wife, Donna of Montgomery, and Donald Pulos of Liberty; grandchildren: Christopher, John, Ryan and Alaina; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Gordon and Elwood Jr. "Butch" Gordon. Shear, a Librarian at IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and resident of New Paltz, died Saturday May 28, 2005, at her residence. She was 83. The daughter of Thorne K. Shear and Mary Morse, she was born January 16, 1922 in Ellenville, N.Y. Dorothy worked for General Motors during World War II and has previously resided in Ellenville, Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Beacon. She is survived by her friends, Nancy G. Harris, Janet C. Geary, and William J. Geary, all of New Paltz; a stepsister, Edna Sexton of Midland, Texas; and a stepbrother, Andrew Short of Ossining, N.Y. Van Buren, Sr. of San Antonio, Texas and Marlboro, N.Y., passed away peacefully at The Farm in Marlboro on May 27, 2005. Mr. Van Buren is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elaine (Spagnola); his four children and their spouses: Toni-Marie Van Buren and husband, Steven Saldana; Robert W. and Mariann Van Buren, Jr.; Karen Van Buren and spouse, Joe Jared; and Kathleen and David Kelleher; and six grandchildren: Joe, Danny, Will, Annie, Maggie and Mollie. The son of Hiram A. and Margaret McCloskey Van Buren, he was born in Newburgh, N.Y. on August 26, 1930. He attended Newburgh schools through his graduation at age 16. Beginning at Mastic Tile Corp in Newburgh, Van Buren had a more than 50-year career in the flooring industry that took him around the world, including his final position as Vice-Chairman and CEO of Domco Tarkett, Inc. in Montreal, from which he retired in 2001. Moving often, he built flooring plants in Germany and Japan, and was employed by Ruberoid and GAF in Vails Gate and Joliet, Amtico, Azrock in San Antonio and finally Domco Industries, Montreal in 1989. Mr. Van Buren was predeceased by his parents, and brother, John Donald Van Buren of Newburgh. Local funeral arrangements will be in Marlboro, N.Y. at The DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W. Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2005 from 5-8 PM and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated June 1 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Church, Route 9W, Marlboro.
