Dr. Francis G. Bartle of Montgomery, a veterinarian and lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 in Goshen. He was 81. The son of the late Guy J. and Mary Bablock Bartle, he was born February 29, 1924 in Pittsfield, N.Y. A graduate of Montgomery High School and Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Bartle had a dairy veterinary practice for 45 years in Orange County. He was also an avid fisherman and belonged to the Wanaksink Lake Club. Dr. Bartle had served on the Montgomery High School Board of Education and was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Schmitt Bartle, at home; children: Janice Borland and husband, John, of Montgomery, F. She is survived by her loving husband Vince of 32 years; her parents, LaVerne and Carol Myers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother Thomas Myers and his wife Mary; sister, Mary K. Star and her husband Jim; nieces, Erika Myers, Katherine, Lauren and Elizabeth Star, all of Rochester, N.Y.; mother-in-law, Florence Mazzie of Newburgh; brother-in-law, Ralph Mazzie and his wife Renee of Newburgh. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Ralph Mazzie. Sandie earned a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from SUNY Brockport, a Master's of Arts from the School of Education, Health, Nursing and Arts Professions, New York University, and had earned credits towards her doctorate at Columbia University. Her career history includes the Director of Patient Care at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Vice President of Patient Care Services at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh; President of Sandra A. Mazzie & Associates - a health care consulting company; and a Patient Care Executive Consultant with APM Management Consultants - a national firm specializing in hospital restructuring. Recently she was Director of Special Projects and a member of the Executive Team at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Her professional achievements are numerous and include being named to "Who's Who in American Nursing" and Marquis "Who's Who in the East." She also served as Vice President of the NYS Nurses Association and received advanced certification in nursing administration from the American Nurses Association. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Powelton Club, and was past member of the board of directors of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce and the Holden Home. Sandie was an avid gardener and loved "getting her hands in the dirt." She was a member of the Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties and served as its finance committee chair. She had a wonderful life with Vince, sharing many good friends. She looked forward to her family gatherings in Bolton Landing and Christmas in Newburgh. Sandie especially cherished the time with her nieces and Godchildren and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Starr Jr., Edwin Edwin Starr Jr., of Lake Luzerne, formerly of Hillburn, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the age of 57. Born in Tuxedo, N.Y. to Edwin and Jean (Grogan) Starr. After graduating from High School he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969. He served in the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. He was happily married to Judy (Heller) for 35 years and lived in Hillburn for most of his life and retired to Lake Luzerne after 30 years with Avon Products in Suffern. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and spending time with his family and coaching for many years in the Suffern Little League and Midget Mounties. He was a 30-year member of the Hillburn Fire Department, serving as chief from 1981-1983, 1990-1992 and 1995-1999. Other than his wife and children the fire department was his second family. He was also a member of the Rockland County Fire Chiefs Assoc., the Mahwah Elks Lodge 1941 and the American Legion Post 0862. He is survived by his wife Judy; three sons Michael and Jennifer, Jamie and Kerri both of West Milford, N.J., and Shane and his fianc‚e Susan (McIntosh of Hillburn); and one daughter Brandi Starr of Lake Luzerne. "Bob" Wood, of Port Jervis, died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 73. He was born March 3, 1932 in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late Cyril V. and the late Helen Spina Wood. He was married to the late Susan McKeever Wood who died June 23, 2004. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis where he was very active as a volunteer. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict where he earned a Purple Heart. He then went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard in Lodi, New Jersey. He was a member of VFW Post #3484 in Saddlebrook, N.J.
