Henry O. Bennett of New City, N.Y. and Kiawah Island, S.C., died at home peacefully with his family at his side after a long battle with illness. He was born in Claymont, N.H. on October 30, 1930, the son of Henry and Una Bennett. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as an Aviation Boatsman 2nd Class on the U.S.S. Bairoko. He worked as an Iron Worker for over 40 years. He was a member of Local 40 and spent many years as Superintendent of the Reconstruction of the Brooklyn Bridge. Henry retired in 1995 to care for his wife, Iva Bennett, during her last days. He was also predeceased by his sister, Sandra Clifford. He is survived by his daughter, Iva Perz and her husband, Ron, and their daughters, Christina and Valora and their husbands, of West Nyack; his son, Edward Koechig and his son, Lee, residing in Arizona. He is also survived by Linda and Robert Dowd of Chester, and their children: Kimberly, Rob and Chris; Henry and Maureen Bennett from Summerville, S.C., and their boys, Henry III and Brendan; and Debra and Lenny Schwade and their sons, Stephen and Matthew, recently moving from Monroe to Summerville, S.C.; his sister, Kaye Kaczynski and many nieces and nephews. He has a total of nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his longtime companion and fianc‚e, Joan Futty, whom he loved greatly and who stood by him until his passing. A family statement reads: "He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son. Dad had a passion for his family, traveling and golf, his favorite pastime." Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Higgins Funeral Parlor in New City. Castronuovo, Thomas L. Thomas L. Castronuovo, a recent resident of Orange County, formerly of Masbeth, Queens, a postal clerk having retired from the General Post Office in New York, N.Y. after 33 years, died Friday, November 18, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 80. The son of the late Sebastian and Filomena Sanna Castronuovo, he was born on November 23, 1924 in the Bronx. A veteran, Mr. Castronuovo served in the US Army during WW II in Normandy and Northern France. He was captured after Normandy and was a POW until his liberation from Stalag 7-A in Mooseburg, Germany on April 29, 1945. Survivors include his wife, Laura Castronuovo of Goshen and his children, Phyllis Miklaszewski and husband Edward of Slate Hill and Charles Castronuovo and wife Rosemarie of New Canaan, Conn.; grandchildren, Joseph Miklaszewski and wife Elena of Hoboken, N.J., Joanne Matthews and husband John of Slate Hill and Albert Castronuovo and Melissa Novak of New Canaan, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Ashley Matthews and Sophia Grace Miklaszewski; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Corona. Filoreto Sr., a local resident since 1951, and retired employee of 23 years from IBM in Poughkeepsie (1976), died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 91. The son of Anthony J. Filoreto and Mary Vacarro, he was born January 26, 1914 in Hazel Brook, Pa. A former resident of Philadelphia, Pa., Joe attended schools in Pennsylvania. He also played Minor League and Semi-Pro Baseball in Pennsylvania. He served his country in the United States Navy, and married Ruth Lorraine Canonaco on May 5, 1945 in Philadelphia. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, and was an usher for the 7:30 a.m. Mass for many years. Joe was also a self-employed shoe maker. A family statement reads: "He was a great husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He loved cooking for his family." In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Maria L. Mills and her husband, Ralph, of Newburgh; two sons, Anthony J. Filoreto of the Town of Poughkeepsie, and Joseph E. Filoreto Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Rock Tavern; grandchildren: Amanda Mills, Anthony J. Filoreto Jr., and Melissa A. Filoreto; and a sister, Katherine Einger of Tennessee. Gordon, Minnie Bell Minnie Bell Gordon, a 35-year resident of Middletown, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown, N.Y. She was 76. The daughter of the late Herbert Smith and Novella Dixon Smith, she was born January 7, 1929 in Paterson, N.J. Minnie was a homemaker and member of the New Christian Faith Center in Middletown. She is survived by four sons: Richard Beach and Emmet Brown, both of Port Jervis, James Gordon of Middletown, and Adrian Gordon of Newburgh; one daughter, Darlene Gordon; brother, James Smith; sister, Janette Smith, all of Middletown; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, church family members and the Hasbrouck family. Leo Francis Kenny, 78, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in Fort Myers, Fla. after a short illness. Leo was born on June 28, 1927 in Catskill, N.Y. to Frank and Mary Kenny. A former resident of Campbell Hall, N.Y., in recent years Leo spent summers in Poughkeepsie and winters in Fort Myers, Fla. Leo has shared his life for the past 29 years with his wife, Kathleen McEnaney Kenny. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Marcia Keegan and her husband, Richard, of Simsbury, Conn.; his sons: Michael Kenny and his wife, Ann Marie, of Highland, John Kenny of Cornwall, and Jeffrey Marone of Newburgh; and his grandchildren: Michael Leo Kenny Jr., Kelsey and Meghan Keegan, Katharine Kenny, and Victoria and Samantha Marone. His wife, Marilyn Santos Kenny predeceased him, as did his son, Leo F. Kenny Jr., and his sister, Mary Kenny Clark. Following graduation from high school, Leo served in the United States Army and then went on to graduate from Fordham University. After college he joined IBM, where he had a long and successful career, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He was a past President of Dutchess Golf and Country Club, where he remained an active member until his death. He was also a member of Cypress Lakes Country Club in Fort Myers. A lifelong fan of golf, football and horse racing, Leo loved his family, his friends and warm weather. He will be missed. He was 86. Son of the late William and Elizabeth Simpson Kilpatrick, he was born on November 5, 1918 in Newburgh. Walt lived on South St while he lived in Newburgh, and was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Walt loved to work on gardens and was very good at it. He loved his mother so much, whenever he had a special flower or plant, he made sure he gave it to his mom. When he married, he moved to Connecticut and worked for Pratt Whitney working with planes until serving his country during World War II in Germany. He is survived by his wife, Emily Frederick Kilpatrick of Florida; four children: Jean, David, Larry and Ken; his brother, Edwin Kilpatrick; and his sister, Helen Hengst. Lorgan Sr., Clarence "Bernie" "Poppy" Clarence "Bernie" "Poppy" Lorgan Sr., a lifelong resident of Chester who retired as a work program coordinator for Pius XII Youth and Family Services, went to be with the Angels on November 15, 2005 at the Orange Regional Medical Center at Arden Hill Campus. Bernie was 69 years of age. The son of the late Charles M. Lorgan and Helen Ritzel, he was born on April 22, 1936 in Port Jervis. Bernie was a 51-year member of Walton Engine & Hose Company, Chester; past captain of Chester Fire Police; past president of O.C.V.F.P. Association; Sergeant at Arms of OCVF Association; member of NYSVFP Association; life-member VFW Post 8814; Special Deputy of O.C. Sheriff's Department; Ancient Order of Hibernians, Joseph Duelk, Jr., Division 1, Monroe; and a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife Julia Lorgan of Chester and children Kathleen McMurray and her husband Steve of Clermont, Fla., Clarence "Bernie" Lorgan Jr. and his wife Patty of Middletown, Theresa Tants and her husband Greg of Milford, Pa., John Lorgan and his wife Cathy of New Windsor and Beth Peluso and her husband Joe of Middletown. McNamara, Arthur "Art" Art McNamara, 52, of Brooklyn and Mountain Dale, N.Y., passed away on Friday, October 21, 2005 from cancer. Born in Little Neck, Queens on November 16, 1952, he was the son of Thomas F. and Gertrude Michaelman McNamara. Art's passions included gardening, reading, bird watching, and most of all laughing with others. Art was the beloved husband and best friend of Beth Knowlton; well-loved brother of Clare Majorrossy, Eleanor, George, Thomas McNamara, and the late Ann Nelson. Salovin, Carol Jean Carol Jean Salovin, of Monticello, a lifelong resident of the area, died at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, November 17, 2005. She was 51. Carol was a Registered Nurse at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris and a member of the New York State Nurses Association in Albany. Carol was born in Ellenville on June 23, 1954 to the late Virgil and Catherine Brown Robinson. A family statement reads,"Carol was a selfless and caring person who loved and lived life to the fullest each and every day. She was a regular at Ja Jed Ceramics, where she enjoyed being creative. There will be a great void in all the lives of her family and many friends that had the privilege to know her." Carol is survived by her husband Martin "Marty" Salovin at home; 2 Sons Michael Brent De Campos of Woodbourne and Robert Dominick De Campos at home; 1 brother James Robinson and his wife Kim of Ellenville; 2 sisters Cinda Robinson of Ellenville and Sandra Artus and her husband Richard of White Lake. Schug, Rita Rita Schug, a retired clerk for Equitable Life Insurance, died November 18, 2005 at home. She was 87. Torres, a longtime resident of Newburgh, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at his residence. He was 52. A former employee for Mechtronics Corp. in Beacon, N.Y., he was born September 16, 1953 in Guatemala. Rocky did not have any known relatives, but he leaves behind his very close friends: Guillermo Flores, Edwin Mejias, Alvaro Prado, George Hernandez, Jose Caranza, Vaudilio Zapata (Fly), Eddie Bonellia, Felipe Hernandez, and Braulio Barron, all of Newburgh. Rocky was a very hard working man. His friends will miss him very much and will always remember him as a quiet man who made very close and lasting friendships. Tramm of Nanuet, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the age of 66. He was born in New York City on September 13, 1939 to John and Sophie Tramm. On October 14, 1961, Mr. Tramm married Joan Weininger at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Glendale, N.Y. John worked for Con Edison in New York City as a Planning and Station Engineer, retiring in 1996. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas' Lutheran Church and was past Master at the Sterling Masonic Lodge in Brooklyn. John was also a volunteer for A.A.R.P., teaching defensive driving; a Tax Aide Volunteer, and helped out at Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife, Joan Tramm, and four sons: John M. and his wife, Sharon, of Newburgh, James and his wife, Jennifer of Tucson, Ariz., Jason and his wife, Angel, of Summit, N.J., and Joseph and his fianc‚e, Cassi, of Vienna, Va. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; a brother, Werner Tramm of Yaphank, N.Y.; and a sister, Marianne Plenge of New Hampshire. John was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kristen Elise Tramm.
