Antoinette Ciarlanto, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered peacefully into rest on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in Wingate at St. Francis in Beacon, N.Y., her residence for the last three years. She was 96 years old. The daughter of Joseph Ciarlanto and Rose Sassi Ciarlanto D'Agostino, she was born September 5, 1909 in Newburgh, N.Y. Antoinette was the primary organist at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh for 78 years. She was a very devoted and active church member, participating in the following: Sacred Heart League; Catholic Daughters of America; Children of Mary; Rosary Society; Mt. Carmel Society; Musicians Union of Newburgh; St. Cosmo and Damian Society; and she worked at Bingo on Monday evenings. She is survived by two sisters, Florence "Min" Belasco of Newburgh, and Mary (Dolly) Monetti, also of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Antoinette was predeceased by three brothers: Louis Ciarlanto, Angelo Ciarlanto, and Joseph Ciarlanto; and one sister, Florence Ciarlanto. Visitation for family and friends will be offered on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 from 2-5 p.m. at the Engel Funeral Home, Inc., 5319 Route 9W North (Middlehope), Newburgh, N.Y. On Wednesday, November 23, family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, then proceed to Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh for an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Cole, a retired supervisor at Cadet Laundry, United States Military Academy at West Point and 50-year area resident, died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center in Hamptonburgh. She was 92. She was born August 22, 1913 in St. Louis, Mo. She was the widow of Clement E. Cole. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mildred Coment of Fort Pierce, Fla. Costa, Stephanie L. Stephanie L. Costa, an Activities Director of Woodbourne, died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at home. She was 27. The daughter of John and Eileen Fuller Costa, she was born November 8, 1978 in Harris, N.Y. Stephanie had a great love for music. She was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School and received her Masters of Music at East Carolina University. She was a Piano Pedigree and worked at the Fishkill Health Center in Beacon, N.Y. as the activities director and music therapist. She was a member of the American Music Therapy Association and the Grahamsville Dutch Reformed Church, where she was also the Choir Director. Survivors include her parents, John and Eileen Costa, and her sister, Allison, who are at home; her paternal grandmother, Helen Costa of Middletown; her maternal grandfather, Eugene Fuller and his wife, Frances, of Grahamsville; her aunts and uncles: Lawrence Costa, Joseph Costa and his wife, Deborah, Victoria Costa, Kathleen Donelli and her husband, John, Steve Fuller and his wife, Cindy, Glen Fuller and his wife, Wendy; and many cousins. Gaither, Darlene Virginia Darlene Virginia Gaither, 44, of Winchester, who worked for Southland Corporation, died November 19, 2005 at Winchester Hospital Center. Interment to follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, Va. Darlene was born December 27, 1960 in West Islip, N.Y. to Blanche (Goodman) Gaither and the late Robert S. Gaither Sr. Darlene was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in Berryville where she was active with the missionary of the church. Darlene attended public schools in Newburgh, N.Y. graduating from Newburgh Free Academy. Shortly after her completing high school, the Gaither family moved to Winchester, Va., which became her home. A son predeced Darlene in death. Survivors include her mother, Blanche Goodman Gaither of Winchester, Va.; three brothers Robert Jr. of Winchester, Gary (Karen) of Leesburg, Va. and John (Laura) of Stephen City; one sister Teresha of Orlando, Fla.; eight nieces and two nephews to include two special nieces Dominque and Denaya and a special nephew, Malik. Published in the Times Herald-Record on 11/22/2005. Gill Jr., Richard L. Richard L. Gill Jr., a longtime area resident, died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at O.R.M.C., Arden Hill Campus. He was 60 years old. The son of the late Richard L. and Louise Aspedia Gill Sr., Richie was born February 23, 1945 in the Bronx, N.Y. On September 28, 1991, Richie and Wendy Wilson-White were joined in matrimony at the Spruce Lodge by the Reverend Stuart Stiles. A United States Army veteran, First Calvary, Richie was enlisted from 1962-1965 having served in Korea. For over 15 years, he served as a coach, umpire and vice president of the Washingtonville Little League, and also on the Washingtonville Recreation Committee. After retiring from the New York City Transit Authority, he went to work under the Transit Security Administration for Stewart International Airport. Richie was all about friendship. He was well-loved by everyone who knew him, and he spread joy and humor everywhere that he went. An avid baseball fan, he not only loved the New York Yankees, but he also enjoyed playing. He was a genuine animal lover. Of all that life has to offer, the best part for Richie was his grandchildren. He will be forever loved and missed. Richie is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy; four loving children: Richard A. Gill and his wife, Michele, Keith White, Jeanine Gregory and her husband, BillyJohn, and Kristi Lockwood; five grandchildren: Rhianna, John, Alexa, Michael and Amanda; three sisters: Maryann Salvaggio and her husband, Jed, Barbara Chiocchi and her husband, Benny, and Arlene Roff; sister-in-law, Lynn Scheuerle and her husband, Fred; brother-in-law, Bill Wilson and his wife, Marilyn; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close and treasured friends. McNamara, Arthur "Art" Art McNamara, 52, of Brooklyn and Mountain Dale, N.Y., passed away on Friday, October 21, 2005 from cancer. Born in Little Neck, Queens on November 16, 1952, he was the son of Thomas F. and Gertrude Michaelman McNamara. Art's passions included gardening, reading, bird watching, and most of all laughing with others. Art was the beloved husband and best friend of Beth Knowlton; well-loved brother of Clare Majorrossy, Eleanor, George, Thomas McNamara, and the late Ann Nelson. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews. Per his request, a private memorial service will take place in the spring. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 17, 1921 to George H. Merrill & Alberta Wandel Merrill and lived most of his life in Forest Hills, N.Y. spending his summers in Cornwall. Following graduation from New York University with a degree in chemistry, he worked on the Manhattan Project. He joined the Army where he worked in the intelligence gathering unit which led to work with the Central Intelligence Agency in Germany following World War II. In 1953, he and his wife and two sons returned to the U.S. to work for the family manufacturing business from which he retired. After retirement he and his wife moved to Cornwall. For many years he was a docent at the Storm King Art Center and was a member of the choir at St. John's Episcopal Church in Cornwall. He touched people wherever he was. He is survived by three sons, Philip Merrill- Millburn, N.J., Geoffrey Merrill - Flushing, N.Y., Paul Merrill - Whippany, N.J.; two daughters, Laura Bazeley - Bakersfield, Calif., Shelagh Merrill - Arvada, Colo.; one sister Barbara Morrow - Cornwall; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Predeceased by one son George O. (Charlie) Merrill Jr. & one grandson Matthew Merrill. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. November 25 Friday at Quigley Bros. She is remembered with love by her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Carol Moonan, granddaughters, Karen and Lynn Moonan all of Woodbridge; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Audrey Howell of Florida, New York; her nephews, Bill, Gary, Bob, Skip, Tim and Randy, their families, other family members and friends. Marge was born in Florida, New York. After her marriage to Raymond J. Moonan, a career Air Force Non Commissioned Officer, their assignments took them to locations in Tennessee, Japan, Texas, Colorado, Turkey, and Maryland, and then settling in Florida, New York where she lived until her move to Virginia in January 2003. Marge worked as a secretary in the Department of the Interior in Washington DC, and subsequently in the Department of Mathematics at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. She is remembered for her attention to detail and precision. Her hobbies included travel, crocheting, painting and reading. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary. A celebration of Marge's life will be held in Florida, New York on Saturday, March 18th, which would have been her 80th birthday. Ross, Robert Robert Ross of Montgomery, an Airman E3 serving in the United States Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas, died November 16, 2005 in Corpus Christi. He was 19 years of age. After his death, Robert was an organ donor. The son of Jeffrey and Agnes Wells Ross, he was born January 24, 1986 in Pomona, California. He graduated 2 years ago from Valley Central High School and entered the military service. He was an avid car enthusiast belonging to car clubs in Texas. He was also an outdoorsman who loved fishing. He is survived by his mother, Agnes Ross, of Montgomery; his father, Jeffrey Ross, of Accord; his maternal grandparents, Marty and Alvin Adkins, of Missouri; his paternal grandparents, Phil and Mabel Ross, of Gardiner; his great-grandmother, Agnes Wells, of Illinois; one sister, Christina Ross, of Montgomery; a special friend of the family, Bill Fitzgerald, of Montgomery; aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors include his devoted wife, Pauline Steenrod, at home; loving children: Cora Bellarosa, Lilli Kugawa, JoEllen Steenrod, Gail Harrington, Bonnie Campbell, and Paula Call; one dear brother, Irving Steenrod; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wright III, former owner of Yuess Gardens in Newburgh and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 72. The son of the late Frederic W. Wright Jr. and Vera Vogt Wright, he was born October 25, 1933 in Brooklyn. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Mid Hudson Bowling Assoc. and Grace Untied Methodist Church in Newburgh. Survivors include three sons, Frederic W. Wright IV of Newburgh, Kyle C. Wright of Jacksonville, Fla. and Cory J. Wright of Newburgh; two sisters, Barbara Pelella of Wallkill and Alice Bowman of Liverpool; four grandchildren, Steele Christopher Wright, Carley Anne Wright, Reagan Alee Wright and Amanda Eileen Kaskeski; nieces and nephews.
