Son of Raphael Battista and Nunziatta Crezenza Battista, he was born January 28, 1923 in New York City, N.Y. He retired in 1985 as a chauffeur at Texaco Research Center, Glenham, and he was the Town of Fishkill Dog Warden for 25 years, and City of Beacon Dog Warden for three years. He was a member of St. Joachim's Church in Beacon; was a member of Slater Chemical Co. in Glenham; Dutchess Junction V.F.D. & St. Rocco's Society in Beacon. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was the widower of Eleanor Laureni Battista, who predeceased him on October 5, 1983. He is survived by his son, Anthony Battista of Amenia; his daughter, Louisa Battista of Beacon; two brothers, Leo Battista of Long Island, and Vincent Battista of Rye; grandchildren: Sylvester, Kitty, B.B., Haskin, and Missy; and several nieces and nephews. Son of the late Edward and Margaret McManus Dolan, he was born May 13, 1935 in the Bronx. He was married to Beatrice Carney Dolan, who predeceased him in 1976. Bernard proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Daughter of James Beckwith and Leah Rich, she was born April 13, 1963 in Newburgh, N.Y. Charessa was a Case Analyst for the Social Security Administration in Peekskill, N.Y.; a member of Mt. Carmel; a church clerk, adult counselor of the praise team, vice president of the voices, Sunday school secretary and missionary. She was also a member of the Martin Luther King Choir and Restoration Choir of the House of Refuge Church of God In Christ, both of Newburgh; and she was an adult counselor at the City of Newburgh Youth Bureau. She was born on November 26, 1919 to John and Margaret Gamble Cupples in Newburgh, N.Y. In 1940, Betty married John Burke Hall, her beloved husband with whom she shared seven children and countless memories. He predeceased her in 1987. An avid reader, Betty was the matriarch of her cherished family and always enjoyed a good party. She was an active parishioner at the Cornwall United Methodist Church and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Scali, Elizabeth Elizabeth Scali died at Glen Arden Healthcare Center on September 10, 2005 at the age of 97, having been born in Polignano, a Mare, Puglia, Italy on January 1, 1908. The daughter of Pietro and Maria Labbata Calcagniti (Kelty). She was a former owner of the Venice Restaurant at 44 Roberts Street in Middletown, when downtown Middletown was a center for shopping and dining. Elizabeth was brought to this country by her parents at the age of four, attended Middletown Schools, met and married Joseph Scali, her husband of 61 years, before his death in 1987. Together they operated the Venice in the former Sons of Italy building, serving meals made from family recipes, produce from their garden and specialty home cured meats. The Middletown Concert Band met for practice in the building for many years, adding to the feeling of a solid Italian community in the area. Many of the restaurant patrons were people who worked in the area stores, banks and offices downtown and became lifelong friends. Some took the train to Middletown to visit family and friends and stopped for a meal before departing. Others will remember the kindness and giving of a couple who were quick to assist those who were sick or in need. She is survived by her sons, Nicholas J. Scali and his wife, Barbara, of Middletown, and Peter P. Scali and his wife, Janis, of Glen Burnie, Md.; as well as her grandson, Joseph G. Scali, his wife, Teresa, and great grandchildren, Caroline and Michael. There will be no visitation.
