Joseph W. Ackermann, a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus after a brief illness. He was 87 years old. The son of the late Louis and Mary Ferrigan Ackermann, Joseph was born on February 27, 1918 in New York, NY. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from November 1943 till November 1945, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Joseph moved to Middletown in 1986 from Yonkers where he was employed as a security guard for Yonkers Raceway until his retirement. A family statement reads:" Joseph loved his family and his country". Joseph is survived by one son, Andrew J. Ackermann and his wife Susan of Middletown and three grandchildren, Kristin, Michael and Nicole Ackermann and four nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by is wife Gladys in 1990 and by one daughter, Luann Ackermann. Antoni Sr., John Formerly of Middletown, N.Y. & Bronx, N.Y. John Antoni, Sr., of Venice, Fla., passed away June 16, 2005 at home. He was 84 years old. He was born in Gerersdorf, Austria on May 10, 1921, the son of John and Rose Hafner Antoni. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired machinist with I.B.E.W. John was a 58-year member of the Brotherhood of the Burgenlander, Austria Club in the Bronx, and the German American Club in Middletown, N.Y. He was the widower of Caroline Antoni, who passed away in 1991. Survivors include his sons: Edward J. Antoni and his wife, Rosemarie, of Campbell Hall, Robert P. Antoni and his wife, Susan, of Chesapeake, Va., and John J. Antoni of North Port, Fla.; one sister, Helen Fodor of the Bronx; four grandchildren: Edward J. Antoni, Jr. and his wife, Holly, Christopher W. Antoni, Bryan Antoni and Joseph Antoni; one great-grandchild, Jaime Antoni; and three nieces. Laurette Kean Blauvelt, a retired shipping clerk for Andmore Sportswear and Kolmar Labs, both in Port Jervis, N.Y., died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at the Valley View Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Goshen, N.Y. after a long illness. She was 81. She lived in Mongaup and Port Jervis all her life. Daughter of the late John J. Kean and Loretta Sullivan Kean, she was born August 6, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Laurette was a member of the Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Port Jervis; was a life member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church; the Catholic Daughters, Court Madonna #114 in Port Jervis; was a PTA president at St. Mary's School in Port Jervis; was an active I.L.G.W.U. member, as well as a dedicated catechist, wife and mother. Laurette worked for Eastern Aircraft as a secretary during World War II. She is survived by her husband, William C. Blauvelt, at home; four daughters: Barbara Blauvelt of Mamaroneck, N.Y., Lauretta Ehrmanntraut and her husband, William, of White Plains, N.Y., Mary Jane Meyers and her husband, Eliott, of Sheepshead Bay, N.Y., and Bernadette Bean and her husband, Kent, of Albany, Ore.; one son, William Blauvelt, of Allentown, Pa.; three brothers: Edmund Kean of New York City, N.Y., Paul Kean of Mongaup, N.Y., and Francis Kean of Old Bridge, N.J.; six grandchildren: Bernadette Benjamin, Anne Ehrmanntraut, Magdelina Blauvelt, William Blauvelt, and Danielle and Michael Bean; and several nieces and nephews. Formerly of Godeffroy, N.Y. Mrs. Frances A. Caswell, retired from the Middletown Psychiatric Center, Middletown, N.Y., and formerly of Godeffroy, passed away on September 18, 2005 at Harmony House in Brewster, Wash. She was 87. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Van Aken, Sr. and Ruth Myer Van Aken. Frances was married for 49 years to the late William H. Caswell, Sr. He predeceased her on September 12, 1991. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Caswell and Gerald Pflanz, I, of Milford, Pa.; two sons, Dennis Caswell and his wife, Sandy, and William H. Caswell, Jr. and his wife, Brenda Sue, of Plant City, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Jim, Carolee, Bill, Lori, Renee, Gerald II, Tim, Stanley, Tammy Jo, Kim and Laura; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carol Markiewicz of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Cox, Inez Inez Cox of Middletown, a retired secretary, having worked for the Middletown Department of Public Works under three Commissioners, died Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 88. A former resident of the Carlucci Home for Seniors, she had been lovingly cared for by Jenny Carlucci and her staff. The daughter of immigrant parents, the late Cosimo and Camilla Donnetta Romanelli, she was born on December 13, 1916 in Taranto, Italy. They came to the United States to make their home and raise their children in Middletown, N.Y. She was the widow of Arthur Barton, who died in France during World War II and of Richard Cox, who died in January of 1997. A family statement reads: She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed. Survivors include her son, Ronald W. Barton and his wife, Judy of Arlington, Va., her daughter, Sandra K. Proia and her husband, Anthony of Kittery Point, Maine, her granddaughters, Elizabeth P. She was 87 years of age. The daughter of the late Oscar and Elizabeth Kespert Inderlied, she was born April 14, 1918, in Binghamton. She was the widow of William Girard. Mrs. Girard grew up in Youngsville. She was a member of the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens. The daughter of the late John and the late Julietta Flood Hensz, Irene was born March 27, 1911 in Narrowsburg, N.Y. Irene was the widow of Willard L. Johnson and Arthur J. McCooey. A former resident of Port Jervis, she attended schools in Tusten and Port Jervis, N.Y. For sixteen years, Irene worked as an Avon representative in the Port Jervis, area. She loved music, poetry, bird watching and her family who will greatly miss her. She is survived by her daughter Sylvia Hendricks and her husband, Kenneth Hendricks, with whom she made her home and her son, Willard L. "Bill" Johnson, and his wife, Patricia Johnson, of Canandagua, N.Y. She is also survived by a sister, Theresa Tebo of Narrowsburg, N.Y. and a brother George Hensz of Matamoras, Pa., six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. McDonough, of Route 300 in Newburgh, died Saturday, September 17, 2005 at home. He was 83. He was born in Kingston on February 18, 1922, a son of the late Edward P. and Kathryn Harney McDonough. Mr. McDonough served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS Hilary P. Jones in the Mediterranean and Pacific. After service he began working for NY Telephone. He retired from Verizon and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Formerly of Kingston, he has lived in Newburgh for 53 years. His wife Marguerite Castiglione McDonough died April 11, 2005. One brother Edward McDonough and three sisters Irene McDonough, Marie McCarthy and Dorothy Fletcher all died previously. Surviving are two daughters Dr. Monica McDonough and her husband Dr. Murali Srinivasan and Marguerite McDonough; one son Mark McDonough; two grandsons Robert and his wife Robyn McDonough and Christopher McDonough and his girlfriend Dayna Ferguson. Pacella Sr., of Newburgh, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2005 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus, surrounded by his loving family. He was 90. Son of the late Michael and Rose DeBalasio Pacella, he was born December 24, 1914 in Cedar Cliff, N.Y. He married the late Mary Alfano Pacella on September 6, 1936 in Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Rocco was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 825; the Williams Street Social Club; the Pastime Athletic Club and the Newburgh Elks Lodge #247. He loved playing cards and enjoying a good cigar. His favorite pastime was spent as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was a loyal friend to all who knew him. He was truly a "Rock" for us all and he will live forever in our hearts. Preddice, Robert Walter Robert Walter Preddice, 79, of Clifford Drive, died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Schenectady, the son of Walter and Louise Hildebrandt Preddice, Robert graduated from Mont Pleasant High School's Class of '44. He served with the 125th infantry, Company G, as a private during WWII. He then graduated from the University of Michigan with a double major in History and Philosophy. Subsequently he received his masters in Education from Albany State University. As a Hollis, Queens NY resident Mr. Preddice attended Columbia University before moving to Horseheads, NY employed with the Bendix Corporation in Elmira as a Tool Designer. He married the former Jacqueline Driscoll on December 23, 1966 and moved to Glenville where he was a teacher for the Schalmont School and later Amsterdam High School, retiring in 1991. Mr. Preddice was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, it's Parish Council, and volunteered with Baptist Retirement Center and Literacy Volunteers of America. Bob worked part-time in the Realty business. He particularly enjoyed taking trips in a small engine airplane with his friend, motorcycling and photography. He had learned from his grandfather how to craft wood and built two boats by himself! He enjoyed literature, crossword puzzles and was known to have a sweet tooth. He was predeceased by his parents as well as a brother, Ronald Preddice. Survivors include his wife Jacqueline Preddice, his children, Michael R. Preddice and his wife Lori of Scotia, Nicholas S. The son of Harrison and Jennie Laymon Townsend Sr., he was born on August 4, 1926 in Jeffersonville (Briscoe), N.Y. He was a self-employed contractor and a former 20-year employee of Daytop Village. He was a member of Monticello Elks Lodge # 1544 and was a US Army Veteran having served his country from 1953 to 1955. Daughter of John J. and Margaret M. Daly Welsh Jr., she was born January 1, 1977 in Newburgh. A family statement reads, "Meghan was loved and adored by her family and friends. Her smile would light up the room, eyes always shining bright. Meghan will be deeply missed, but will always be loved and in our hearts, never to be forgotten." Meghan was a 1995 graduate of Wallkill High School, and an employee of Bank of America at Stewart Airport, New Windsor.
