This twentieth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty-six. I, John Dean, of Wayayanda in the precincts of Goshen, County of Orange, Province of New York, being very weak of body but of sound mind and memory, Thanks Be to God for the same, and called to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: Vis: that it is to say principaly and first of all I give my soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian-like manor at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and as touching such Earthly (?) Estate wheresowith it has pleased the Lord to bless me withal,I give and dispose of the same in the manner and form following: Vis: This my will I do ordain that all my just debts dues and demands which I owe in right or conscience to any person or persons be first paid and cleared in a convenient time after my decease by my executors. It is my will and I give and bequeath all my estate both real and personal to my father William Dean and to my mother Catrine Dean and to my brother William Dean and to my brother Joseph Dean and to my brother Nicholas Dean and to my sister Mary Dean to each of them their heirs and assigns forever, to each one of them an equal division of the same be it more or less except such a part of my estate as shall be sufficient to indemnify my executors to clear the _________? of the charge that my Negroes may be to it; or what the law requires in that respect it being my will that my Negroes should be free and clear from all men only that they shall be under the care and instruction of my executors, and if my Wench should desire to return to her native country it is my will that my executors be at the expense of sending her home out of my estate. And it is my will that if my father or mother or brothers or sister be dead and have left no heir then it is my will that that part be equally divided among the survivors and it is my will that my Negoes namely (?) George, Catto and Seicaly have each of them the sum of one hundred pounds New York currency paid to them in a reasonable time after my decease by my Executors hereafter named. And it is my will that if none of my heirs ____? ____? for my estate that my Executors and their heirs and assigns should have it forever, and I hereby appoint, constitute and ordain my well beloved friends Richard Dufall Esq.and Samuel Dufall, to be my Executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke, disavow, and make void all former wills, gifts, grants, and bequeathments by me informally made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set to my hand and fixed my seal this day and year above written.
