He was born February 4, 1762, in Windham County, Connecticut. He enlisted March 16, 1778, in Captain Philip Traffan's company, Colonels Barter and John Topham's Rhode Island regiment. He was in the battle of Rhode Island and continued in service for one year and then reenlisted. He was discharged at Newport, 1781, on account of sickness. After the Revolution he resided in several counties in New York including: Dutchess, Columbia, Chenango and Otsego. His wife was named Martha.
