July 16, 1823 son of Hopkins and Margaret Burlingham The People of the State of New-York, by the Grace of God, Free and Independent: To all to whom these Presents shall come, or may concern, send Greeting: KNOW ye, that at Laurens in the County of Otsego, on the Sixteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three before William J. Arrgels Esquire, Surrogate of our said County, the last Will and Testament of Gorton S. Burlingham deceased, (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed (was proved, and is now approved and allowed of by us: and the said deceased having whilst he lived, and at the time of his death, Goods, Chattels, or Credits, within this State, by means whereof the proving and registering the said Will, and the granting administration of all and singular the said Goods, Chattels and Credits, and also the auditing, allowing and final discharging the account thereof, doth belong unto us: the administration of all singular the Goods, Chattels and Credits of the said deceased, and any way concerning his Will, is granted unto Hopkins Burlingham and Russell Harrington Executors in the said Will named, they being first duly sworn well and faithfully to administer the same, and to make and exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said Goods, Chattels and Credits, and also to render a just and true account thereof when thereunto required. In testimony whereof, we have caused the seal of office of our said Surrogate to be hereunto affixed. Witness: William G. Arrgels Esquire, Surrogate of the said County, at Laurens aforesaid, the Sixteenth day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty three and of our Independence the forty eighth. Burlingham of the town of Laurens in the County of Otsego and State of New York being considering the uncertainty of life and certainty of death and being weak in bodily health but sound in mind and intellect blessed be God for the same do publish this my last will and testament on manner and form following to wit. 1st I do resign my body to the dust from whence it sprung and my Soul unto God who gave it As to my worldly property with which it has pleased Almighty God to bless me I dispose of the Same as follows to wit 2nd I do hereby order and direct that my Executors shall as soon as is consistent after my decease settle all my temporal concerns Collect the debts that may be due to me at the time of my decease and also as soon as possible after my decease pay and discharge all my debts from the property that shall belong to me at the time of my decease. 3rd I do give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susannah Burlingham and to my beloved children Joanna Burlingham, Amanda Burlingham and Gorton Spencer Burlingham all the property or Estate which shall remain after my said debts are paid, to be owned after my said debts are paid, to be property owned and enjoyed equally by my said beloved wife and children during such time as my said wife shall remain a Widow. But in case of the death or marriage of my now beloved wife the said Susannah Burlingham, I do hereby give and bequeath all the said property or Estate to my beloved children the said Joanna Burlingham, Amanda Burlingham and Gorton Spencer Burlingham to be equally owned property or divided by and between them their kin and assigns forever 4th I do hereby constitute authorize and appoint Hopkins Burlingham of the town of Hartwick in the County of Otsego and State of New York and Russell Harrington of the town of Laurens in the county and state aforesaid my true and lawful Executors to Execute this my last will and testament and to carry the same into affect according to the intent and meaning of the same, and to their care and superintendence in conjunction with their mother the said Susannah Burlingham do discommend the care and education of my said beloved children trusting that they will give them such instructions and such counsel and advice as they may stand in need of In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty threeSigned and dated Gorton S.
