The submittor has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ Know all men by these presents that I, Jonathan Devereaux, of Schodack town in the County of Rensselaer and State of New York, Yeoman, being weak in body yet blessed by God sound in mind and understanding, knowing from the word of God that I shall die, though not the time when, therefore do esteem it my duty to make this my last will and testament in way and manner following: FIRST, I make a free and cheerful surrender of my soul to God who gave it, to be taught, pardoned, sanctified, eternally saved from my sins by Jesus Christ. Also I give my body to the grave, with a sure and certain hope of the resurrection of body to eternal life, which shall come forth at the call of the judge to be again united to the soul to reign with Christ in glory, of which I have experience by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and his glorious ascension to the right hand of God and exercise rightly the government of this world, until He shall come to judge it. NEXTLY, I dispose of my temporal interest, of which God hath made me the steward in the way and manner following:--firstly, I give and bequeath to my wife, Lydia, for her won use and disposal, all the household stuff and furniture, likewise my lame mare, with a good new side saddle and bridle, with the use and improvement of the one third of my lands, dwelling house and barns during the term of her natural life. The remainder of my interest which I am possessed of at the time of my decease when my debts are all paid, and my will is that there should be an equal division made of it among my children who may survive me, their names that are now alive are: Erastus, Nathan, Lydia, John, Elijah, Stephen, Epaphroditus, Seymour; ten pounds which I paid for a right of land in Whitestown the last spring for Erastus and John is to be deducted out of their share of my interest, with the lawful interest 'til the time of dividing my interest between my children, my will and pleasure is that Lydia, my wife, be the executrix of this my last will and testament, and my brother Elisha Devereaux to act jointly with her in putting into execution that my last will and testament agreeable to the laws of this state, dated Schodack, September 29th, 1802.
