Grier, Ethel Elizabeth (Mayer) GRIER Ethel Elizabeth Grier (nee Mayer), 83, of New Port Richey, Fl., wife of the late Andrew L. Grier, died Sunday, August 21, 2005. She was born on May 23, 1922 in Tottenville, Staten Island, NY, eldest daughter of Henry and Gladys Mayer. Ethel was noted as being gifted in music and, at an early age, she studied with Margaret Elhardt and the New York Theatre of the Allied Arts in New York City. Graduating from Tottenville High School in 1940, she went on to the University at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to continue her music career which was highlighted by a concert at Cargegie Hall. Ethel married Andrew L. Grier in 1943 and also taught piano privately for many years before retiring in 1983. She volunteered her time and talents to many organizations over the years. She was church organist and choir director for South Baptist Church in Tottenville for over 40 years. Her love of music was paramount in her life. It was enjoyed by many far and wide. Survivors include sons, Donald Henry, Tampa, Fl; Robert Jaymes, New Port Richey, Fl; and Alan Robert Bromfield, Wake Forest, NC; daughters Janice Elizabeth Bromfield, Wake Forest, NC; Suzanna Grier, Tampa, Fl; and Doreen Grier, New Port Richey, Fl; sisters, Verna (Mayer) Minnick, Dunwoody, Ga; Joyce Grier and Barbara Simmers, both of Staten Island, NY; grandchildren, Amanda, Grace, Kristina, Drew, Samantha and Sydney. She was loved by many but most by her family. She will be missed but never far from our hearts and memory.
