WILLIAM MOOG, 79 Proud that his 8 children all graduated from college Wednesday, November 23, 2005 Native Staten Islander William J. Moog, 79, a retired firefighter and World War II veteran, died yesterday at his Great Kills home. Born in Pleasant Plains, Mr. Moog moved with his family to Tottenville, where he graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians Elementary School. A seaman first class, Mr. Moog was stationed aboard the USS Milwaukee and the USS Dayton, which took him to both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Mr. Moog worked for the city Sanitation Department on Staten Island for seven years. In 1955, he joined the city Fire Department. He worked for Engine Co. 24 in Manhattan and Engine Co. 166 in Graniteville before retiring in 1988. Mr. Moog settled in Great Kills in 1956. An avid card player, he especially enjoyed the game of pinochle. Mr. Moog also loved taking his family on vacations -- driving to Florida, Vermont, Niagara Falls and the Jersey Shore. His greatest pride, though, was that all eight of his children graduated from college. In 1999, Mr. Moog celebrated 56 years of marriage to the former Marguerite Beers. Seiling, 79, of Greenwich, Conn., a bank note engraver who had a passion for antique cars, died Monday in Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital after a short stay. The quiet man who enjoyed working with his hands was born in Lorain, Ohio. Mr. Seiling left his hometown at the age of 17 to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific between 1943 and 1945. When he returned to Ohio he met his wife, the former Josephine Immiti, a native Staten Islander who was there visiting her sister. The two married in 1951 and lived briefly in Silver Lake before moving to Rosebank. They remained in that community until 1964, when they relocated to Emerson Hill. A few months ago, Mr. Seiling entered the Greenwich Woods Health Care Center. Until his retirement in the early 1990s, Mr. Seiling worked for roughly two decades as a bank note engraver for the now-defunct American Bank Note Co., commuting daily to the Bronx, where the company was located. Prior to joining American Bank Note, he was a jewelry engraver for Tiffany & Co. in Manhattan. He was also an antique car aficionado and collected old Fords. "He was quiet and gentle and loved by his grandchildren," said his daughter. Mr. Seiling's wife of 45 years, Josephine, died in 1996.
