STEPHEN DeCORE, 40 Liked to cook, travel, compete in power lifting sport Saturday, November 26, 2005 Stephen M. DeCore, 40, a lifelong resident of Port Richmond Center, died Wednes 2005 day of a heart attack in the Syracuse, N.Y., home of a friend he was visiting. He graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1983, and later earned a medical assistance degree from the Wilsey Academy on Staten Island. Because of an illness, Mr. DeCore was unable to work, but he enjoyed cooking, traveling and competing in power-lifting competitions. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at a home his family owned on the Jersey Shore. Surviving are his mother, Katherine F., and his sister, Jacqueline DeCore-Lurker. The funeral will be Monday from the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh. JOHN BAROVE SR., 79 Manhattan postal worker collected stamps, coins Saturday, November 26, 2005 Lifelong New Brighton resident John Henry Barove Sr., 79, a retired postal worker, 2004 died Wednesday in St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton. A graduate of Curtis High School, Mr. Barove worked for 22 years with the U.S. Postal Service. Based out of the Midtown office at the 38th St. Station in Manhattan, he retired in 1990. An avid New York Yankees fan, Mr. Barone also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. His daughter, Susan Barove O'Brien, died in 1995. Surviving Mr. Barove are his wife of 58 years, the former Elvira Cerio; his son, John Jr.; a sister, Marion Rossin; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. ISABEL SANTIAGO, 66 Loved to dance to salsa and Spanish music Saturday, November 26, 2005 Isabel Santiago, 66, of New Brighton, a homemaker who loved to dance, died 2000 Tuesday in St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton, of a heart-related condition. Born Isabel Pagan in Puerto Rico, she was brought to Manhattan when she was 9 and lived there until 2001, when she moved to New Brighton. She raised 10 children in Harlem and "we all got out of there with her strength," said one of her five daughters, Ernestina Barnes. With her wit, tenacity and graciousness, Mrs. Santiago could spread a meal to feed her whole family so that no one went hungry, even when times were hard. A clever, lively woman who knew how to get her way, Mrs. Santiago was always dancing, especially to salsa and Spanish music. She was dancing at the Cassidy-Coles Senior Center in New Brighton, when she collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where she later died. "She called herself the 'old teen-ager,'" Mrs. Barnes said. Mrs. Santiago enjoyed crocheting and making arts and crafts. "She loved to create stuff out of nothing," her daughter said. Mrs. Santiago's husband of 46 years, Rene, died last year. In addition to her daughter, Ernestina, surviving are her five sons, Rene Jr., Miguel, Manuel, Roberto and Othoniel; four more daughters, Isabel Ramirez, Daniela Santiago, Ana Santiago and Brunilda Nathan; 21 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. GASPAR CAMARDA, 95 Family gatherings were important to textile worker Saturday, November 26, 2005 Gaspar Camarda, 95, of New Springville, a retired textile worker, died Thursday in Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay. Born in Manhattan, Mr. Camarda moved to Brooklyn in 1940 and settled in New Springville seven years ago. For more than 50 years, he worked for several textile companies in Manhattan. He retired in 1972. A parishioner of St. Bernadette's R.C. Church, Brooklyn, Mr. Camarda was a former member of the church's senior center, along with his wife. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing basketball. A family-oriented person, he liked to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Camarda also loved traveling and, over the years, he and his wife traveled to Europe and Florida. They also enjoyed spending their summers in the Catskills. "He was a very good father, loving to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and totally devoted to his wife," said his daughter, Frances Codispodo. Mr. Camarda's wife of 62 years, the former Mildred Cutrano, died in 2002. In addition to his daughter, Frances, surviving are his son, Thomas; a sister, Anna Perrone; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp. EUGENE REILLY, 57 Credit union president liked to tailgate at Jets games Saturday, November 26, 2005 Native Staten Islander Eugene T. Reilly Jr., 57, of Hendersonville, N.C., the retired president/CEO of a federal 2002 credit union, died Tuesday in Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville. Born in Rosebank, Mr. Reilly graduated from Curtis High School. He was a member of the former Holy Rosary Crusaders football team. He earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the State University of New York at New Paltz. In 1962, Mr. Reilly moved to Grasmere, living there until 1988, when he relocated to Wanamassa, N.J. While there, he coached Pee-Wee football and Little League baseball. He was a member of the Deal (N.J.) Golf & Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing with his wife and son. Mr. Reilly ran an annual golf outing at the club to benefit various children's charities. He relocated to Hendersonville last year. For 17 years, Mr. Reilly was the president/CEO of Financial Resources, a federal credit union with branches in 21 states, including Puerto Rico. He retired last year. An avid New York Jets fan, Mr. Reilly purchased an old school bus with friends and transformed it into a full-blown tailgating vehicle, painting it green and white and outfitting it with televisions and a grill. The group attended Jets football games in the vehicle -- even having some former players stopping by to autograph the bus. Mr. Reilly also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in his RV. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, the former Ann Henderson; his son, Dylan; his father, Eugene T. Reilly Sr.; four brothers, James, Lawrence, Paul and Daniel, and two sisters, Eileen Padula and Sharon Zinke. CHARLES WRANOVICS JR., 60 Johnson & Johnson manager liked to build models Saturday, November 26, 2005 Native Staten Islander Charles Richard Wranovics Jr., 60, of Verona, Va., a retired information services manager, died Thursday in Augusta Medical Center, Fisherville, Va. Born in West Brighton, he graduated from Curtis High School, where he was a member of the Frogmen's Club. An inside joke among friends, it was a fictitious group he had published in his senior yearbook. Mr. Wranovics later earned an associate's degree in business from the former Staten Island Community College in Sunnyside. During the 1960s, he served in the U.S. National Guard. In 1973, Mr. Wranovics relocated to Bethlehem, Pa., so he could live closer to his job as an information services manager at Johnson & Johnson, based in Somerville, N.J. After 15 years, he retired in 1995, settling in Verona that same year. Mr. Wranovics enjoyed taking cruises and building model ships, as well as studying war history. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Elkton, Va. Surviving Mr. Wranovics are his wife of 36 years, the former Carole Dolinger; his son, David; his daughter, Dr. Stacy Clark; his parents, Charles Sr. and Edith Lorraine Lamberton Wranovics, and two grandchildren. ARLENE SIDERI, 74 Retired analytical chemist enjoyed bowling Saturday, November 26, 2005 Lifelong West Brighton resident Arlene Sideri, 74, a retired analytical chemist, died 1999 Thursday in St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton. The former Arlene Kaufmann graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1949. Mrs. Sideri worked as an analytical chemist for 13 years at the former Wallerstein Co. in Mariners Harbor. She then worked at Schering-Plough Research Institute for 23 years, first at its site in Kenilworth, N.J., then at the company's quarters in Union, N.J. She retired in 1989. A coin collector and an avid collector of porcelain Hummels, Mrs. Sideri was a more than 25-year member of the Goebel Collector's Club -- for collectors of the German figurines. Mrs. Sideri was active in many bowling leagues on Staten Island and had amassed trophies at the former Madelone's Bowling Center in Port Richmond. She was also a member of the Victory Starlets Bowling League at the former Victory Lanes in Castleton Corners. A life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oakwood Heights Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mrs. Sideri also belonged to the Willowbrook chapter of the AARP. She enjoyed taking bus trips with family and friends to Atlantic City. "Everybody loved her," said her daughter, Sandra Sideri. "She was always helping out others." In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Sideri is survived by her husband of 55 years, Benjamin, and a sister, Evelyn D'Eugenio.
