O'Reilly, Margaret M. Margaret M. O'Reilly, a former resident of Staten Island, passed away October 14, 2005 at her home in MidlothIan, VA. after a lengthy illness. She was 85 years old. Margaret was born On Staten Island on February 1, 1920. She received her education from the Sisters of Notre Dame on Grymes Hill. She moved from the Island after her marriage and returned annually for visits with family and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Arthur A. Quaranta, her husband, Joseph P. O'Reilly Jr., her son LCpl. Joseph P. O'Reilly III, USMC, grandson John R. Larson and two sisters Catherine Quaranta and Virginia O'Grady. ROSE ANNE SMITH, 52 Former teacher, Girl Scout troop leader Sunday, October 23, 2005 Rose Anne Smith, 52, of Rosebank, a homemaker and former teacher, died Thursday at home, following a 3 1/2-year battle with breast cancer. Born Rose Anne DeFina in Manhattan, she settled in Rosebank in 1988. Mrs. Smith was a third-grade teacher at Mary Help of 1991 Christians School, Manhattan, from 1977 to 1989. While there, she was the leader of the school's Brownie Scout Troop for 10 years. She left the workforce to devote herself to her home and family. Mrs. Smith earned a bachelor of arts degree in French, with concentrations in Spanish and secondary education, from St. Joseph's College, Brooklyn, and a master of science degree in education from Fordham University, Manhattan. She was formerly a Junior Girl Scout Troop leader for her daughter's troop at St. Joseph Hill Academy, Arrochar. An avid reader, Mrs. Smith enjoyed shopping, watching movies and taking trips to Walt Disney World with her family. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 17 years, Wayne; a son, Cody; a daughter, Ashley; her mother, Rose DeFina, and a sister, Virginia. The funeral will be tomorrow from the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a 10:30 a.m. mass in Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains. MILDRED TADDEO, 86 Operated Queens bridal shop Sunday, October 23, 2005 Mildred Taddeo, 86, of Annadale, a retired seamstress who once ran a bridal shop in Queens, died Friday at home of breast cancer, a disease she had survived for 28 years. Born Mildred Arena in Messina, Sicily, Mrs. Taddeo 2000 was brought to Brooklyn as a infant. She lived in Bensonhurst; Ozone Park, Queens; Beverly Hills, Fla., and Hazlet, N.J., before moving in with her daughter, Georgianna Diaz, in Annadale a few months ago. Her daughter provided hospice care as her mother's condition worsened. This past August, Mrs. Taddeo was recognized as a long-time breast cancer survivor at the kick-off breakfast of the Staten Island chapter of the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Cancer walk. The breakfast was held at the Staaten in West Brighton. Ms. Diaz, herself a breast cancer survivor, introduced her mother at the gathering. The walk was held in Clove Lakes Park on Oct. 16. Mrs. Taddeo worked in the garment industry in Manhattan, where she met her husband, Francis J. Taddeo, and married him in 1947. She later owned and operated a bridal shop in Woodhaven, Queens, for 10 years. She retired in 1970. She enjoyed bowling, a sport she picked up at the age of 80. She took trips to Atlantic City as often as possible and enjoyed cooking and baking, freely sharing what she prepared with both family and friends. "She was a very warmhearted person and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home," said her daughter. She added: "The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of my mother's eye." She was a parishioner of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville. Mrs. Taddeo's husband, Francis, died in 1992. In addition to her daughter, Georgianna, surviving are a son, Frank Taddeo; another daughter, Maria Paladino; a brother, Salvatore Arena; a sister, Concetta Nigro; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow from Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a 9:45 a.m. mass in Holy Child Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains. CARL CIVARELLO, 86 WWII veteran was building inspector Sunday, October 23, 2005 Carl Civarello, 86, a World War II veteran and retired building inspector, died Friday at his home in Eltingville. After graduating from high school in his native Wellesley, Mass., Mr. Civarello joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Seahorse submarine in the Pacific during World War II, and attained the rank of ensign. After his tour of duty, Mr. Civarello moved to Eltingville and worked for 35 years as a city building inspector. He retired in the 1980s. Mr. Civarello was a parishioner of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville. "He was a wonderful person," said his wife of 60 years, the former Adeline DelPellegrino. In addition to his wife, surviving are his son, Mark; his daughter, Claudia Wilson; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. The funeral will be tomorrow from the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Eltingville, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in Holy Child Church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
