ROSANNE TELLEFSEN, 82 Secretary worked with Army during World War II Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Rosanne Tellefsen, 82, of Rosebank, a retired Varityper typist and secretary, died Monday in St. Vincent's Hospital, West Brighton. The former Rosanne Roitzsch was born in Stapleton and settled in Rosebank in 1935 with her husband, Louis Tellefsen. During World War II, the Tellefsens lived in San Antonio, Texas, where Tellefsen was serving with the U.S. Army. While there, Mrs. Tellefsen worked as a civilian secretary with the Army. A graduate of New Dorp High School, her family said she was awarded the bookkeeping prize for excellence in accounting. Mrs. Tellefsen was a Varityper typist and secretary for 10 years with Merrill Lynch in Manhattan. After World War II, in 1946, she resumed her career with Merrill Lynch and retired from the company in 1954. Mrs. Tellefsen was an active parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Rosebank for 70 years. She participated in community and church activities, and had been a Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, softball coach and longtime member of St. Mary's Rosary Sodality -- where she often helped with parish events and local school plays. As a young woman, she traveled extensively in the eastern United States and Canada. She enjoyed knitting, making crafts, attending family and social gatherings and shopping. "For the last 20 years, one of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow up," said her son, Thomas. In addition to her son and her husband of 61 years, Louis, surviving are her daughter, Louanne Perrotti, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grasmere. ROSA ECHANIQUE, 91 Native of Ecuador Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Rosa Echanique, 91, of Miami, Fla., a retired Staten Island seamstress who enjoyed decorating homes, died Thursday in Coral Reef Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Miami, where she had resided for five years. A charming woman with a good sense of humor, Mrs. Echanique had a beautiful singing voice and bright smile, her family said. She took up interior decorating as a hobby and enjoyed using her skills at the homes of friends and family. Mrs. Echanique was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born Rosa Wynn in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she graduated from high school there and immigrated to St. George in 1961. She worked as a seamstress at Uniforms by Ostwald in New Brighton until 1977, when she retired and moved to Miami. Mrs. Echanique's husband, Guillermo, died in 1979. Surviving are her two sons, Guillermo (Wil Wynn) and Xavier; her daughter, Pilar Serrano; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Echanique's daughter, Cecilia Barreiro, died in 1984. Mrs. Echanique was buried Sunday in Woodlawn Park Cemetery South, Miami. JERRY AGRILLO, 46 Substance abuse counselor was an outdoorsman Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Jerry Agrillo, 46, of Prince's Bay, a substance abuse counselor, died Monday at home. Born in West Orange, N.J., he was raised in Brooklyn and moved to Prince's Bay 13 years ago. Since then, Mr. Agrillo had worked as a substance abuse counselor at Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay. He enjoyed cooking and painting and loved animals -- especially his dog, Brewster, and his cat, Shadow. An outdoorsman, Mr. Agrillo also enjoyed hiking and spending time with nature. He is survived by his mother, Camille Agrillo; his father, Leo; a brother, Joseph; a sister, Catherine Salerno, and his fiance, Claire McCue. JANE MAGNUSSEN, 83 Liked caring for plants Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Lifelong Staten Islander Jane A. Magnussen, 83, a homemaker, died yesterday at her Elm Park home. Born Jane A. Long in Port Richmond, she graduated from Port Richmond High School. Mrs. Magnussen moved to Elm Park 45 years ago and settled in her current home there 10 years ago. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, reading and taking care of her houseplants. Mrs. Magnussen also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. She was a member of the former Park Baptist Church in Port Richmond, where she belonged to the Trinity Chapter and the Sewing Circle. Mrs. Magnussen's husband of 44 years, Stanley E., died in 1986. Surviving are her two sons, Thorsten (Thor) S. and Timothy J.; her daughter, Susan J. Hadfield; a sister, Lillian Fox, and six grandchildren. The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Meislohn-Silvie Funeral Home, Port Richmond. CONSTANCE BROGNA, 82 Veterans Administration secretary, AARP member Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Constance Brogna, 82, of Castleton Corners, a former secretary, died Monday in the Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dongan Hills, where she had been a resident for the past six months. The former Connie Occhipinti was born in Manhattan and moved to Union City, N.J., to attend high school. She moved to St. George in 1950 and settled with her husband in Castleton Corners in 1955. She was a secretary with the Veterans Administration in Union City, working with a captain in the medical department. She worked there for five years until the birth of her first child. From that time, she devoted herself to making a home for her family. Mrs. Brogna was a member of the Castleton Corners chapter, AARP. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading, traveling and cooking Italian food. "She was a loving mother, loving grandmother and loving mother-in-law," said her son Robert. Mrs. Brogna was an active parishioner of St. Rita's R.C. Church, Meiers Corners. Her husband of 50 years, Gerard, died in 1999. In addition to her son Robert, surviving are her son Gerard Jr.; two daughters, Diane Chicola and Lisa Brogna; a brother, Thomas Occhipinti; sisters Gae Consentino and Josephine Occhipinti; five grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. CHRISTINA CHIRICHELLA, 88 Family loved South Beach resident's pasta, pizza Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Born in Manhattan, the former Christina Algerio settled in South Beach in 1947. She worked as a seamstress in a number of factories on Staten Island for about 20 years, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Chirichella loved crocheting, working in the garden and cooking -- especially dishes like macaroni and pizza, her family said. "She was a great cook," said her son, George. "She was a wonderful, wonderful mother." Mrs. Chirichella's husband of 36 years, Joseph, died in 1973. In addition to her son, George, surviving are her son, Anthony; a brother, Salvatore Algerio; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday from the A. Azzara Funeral Home, with a service at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, both South Beach. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grasmere.
